Christopher Nolan, and Heath Ledger really nailed the relationship of Batman and the Joker throughout their entire history. That's why no matter what superhero films are made in the future, they will never be able to measure up to The Dark Knight. This is one of the few movies I saw in theatre's 4 times in the first month it came out. I was almost physically shaking with excitement during my first viewing opening night, and I couldn't believe how good it was after I left the theatre that night. I couldn't stop thinking about the movie for a week after first seeing the film.

Sorry to be that kind of guy, but that rising string motive is actually played on a cello.
I believe on the soundtrack recording it was Martin Tillmann, a swiss cellist, playing.
In most of the live concerts, Tina Guo (also a long time collaborator and good friend of Hans) is playing the cello.

He was physically beating him but still wasn'tt able to extract info about Rachel and Dent's where about, meaning the Joker could have killed those two whenever he wanted and Batman cant do shit about it. Also very much doubt the "real punches" thing. For one thing, huge risk of injury to Ledger that would impede production for no real value (real punches often don't look "real" on camera anyway). For another, no evidence of swelling/bruising on Ledger in other shots. If they'd had to alter production to allow Heath's face to heal, likely we'd have heard about it.

The scene when the hospital blows up and Joker stops and looks at it because it doesn’t fully go off wasn’t actually improvised. That was just some weird legend, that the internet started. There’s no way they would’ve kept rolling if that happened with such a dangerous stunt happening, and it didn’t fully go off, they would’ve had to get a bomb squad to figure out what happened and evacuate everything. So that’s one thing, two if I’m not mistaken it’s actually in the script that there is supposed to be a delay, and Heath would turn around and look at it. However something really cool that is improvised from Heath is the deleted scene that followed the hospital blowing up. Basically it’s Heath just in the school bus, and the entire time that this giant fucking explosion is going off, he doesn’t look at it and stays completely in character. Truly a master of his craft

I think a main point of why LEdger's Joker is "the best", is that there's no dilution to this one, perfect example. It's never been "diluted" with another performance by him under a different director, screen writer, producer or such. He had this first attempt at it, nailed it, and it'll live forever as the shining example of Joker at his best. Had he been given the chance, you know the origin story or an attempt at an even edgier Joker would've been tried, likely with him recast, and it would've soured this movie a lot.

POI, in particular, had such a 'Dark Knight' feel to it as it included many of the actors from the trilogy. I've always believed that the show's main character -portrayed byJim Caviezel - would make an exceptional aging Bruce Wayne. If you've never seen the show, find a clip on RUclips to see what I mean. The fingerprint on the bullet:
When loading a bullet into a magazine you tend to slot it in using your thumb. People will clean the handgrip of a gun as a matter of course, but the magazine and the bullets themselves are less likely to be cleaned. This means police can find whoever loaded the bullets into the magazine and try to get them to admit they were the ones who shot the gun, or to point out whoever they loaded the magazine for.

bullets are two-piece things. there is a casing (basically a sleeve) and the bullet itself. the CASING would have the print not the bullet, that's what holden is saying. so the shattered bullet thing would be irrelevant unless he found the casing that had the fingerprint from pressing it into the mag. but that would also make the detective scene with the minigun pointless as well. it was done to for entertainment purposes rather than logic.

This is an amazing film. I watched Heat a while ago and saw some similarities with this film and that one, and it turns out CN saw Heat and envisioned Gotham to be like that kind of setting. So when you watch Heat, it actually feels like the Dark Knight in terms of set pieces and sections of the film but overall, the story is completely different. (I don't mean to compare them and to say they share a comon theme, but CN used some parts of Heat as a template with which to write DK.)

Very solid review you guys had at the end of the movie. One other fun fact is the scene where Joker entered the building with him meeting with Rachael, she was not aware of how Heath would carry himself and as you see her terrifying look, she was legitimately terrified in that scene. She went on explaining the scene during the an interview on how she was truly terrified during that part. Thanks again guys for your movie reactions I am so glad you guys are doing the batman trilogy perhaps you guys can do Game of Thrones 😁

I remember seeing this movie in theaters when it came out. Everybody was so captivated by the Joker. So many gasps when he was on screen and throughout the movie in general. At the very end of the movie when he said “A Dark Knight” I remember saying wow. And the whole audience was clapping. It’s definitely in the conversation of greatest movie ever made and arguably the greatest superhero movie ever made.

I'm going to correct the myth that the explosion scene in the hospital was improvised.
Yes, Joker's "reaction" was improvised, the whole turns around spooked and rushes for the bus. He was supposed to just get on the bus, as it all exploded and the camera would continue filming the explosion, but he stayed in place and continued to act (brilliantly I might add).
But the actual delay in the explosion was purposeful. since Nolan wanted to do everything as practical as possible it was a safety concern to blow up everything at once. it was done in sections, and the explosions nearest the joker and the buses were set for last. I believe either Nolan or one of the crew confirms this in one of the commentary or featurettes that were included in some versions of the blu-ray and DVD.
if the entire hospital was blown up at the same time the force it would yield would cause shrapnel to go flying past the film crew's safety zone. it's why even actual demolition crews only blow sections of a building(s).

Refreshing to see someone get that the bank in the beginning was a mob bank, which is why the manager gets the shotgun out. Most reactions I’ve seen completely miss that.

10:42 I think the scar stories are told in a way based on what Joker guesses about the people he's telling them to. Gambol's anger issues made him think Gambol had an abusive dad so he made up a story about his dad being an alcoholic who killed his mother and carved a smile into his face. And his story to Rachel is basically a threat to what he and the mob will do to her and Harvey.

great vid i love watching your content and yet again didnt disappoint jens facial expressions were hilarious during some scenes. also wanted to add the joker scene in the jail where hes clapping caught everyone off guard. he improvised that. also same scene except in the interrogation heathe told christian bale to actually hit him as hard as he could as he wanted the scene to look real so that was also improvised. also very missable detail. but when two face is in the car. moments before the car scene you can actually see two face take out the guy who was suppose to be in the car on the far left corner. very missable detail

There are movies that we call the magnum opus for directors. I think we can say that for genres as well. The Dark Knight, Infinity War, and Spider-Man 2 from Sam Raimi are all movies that epitomize this notion. I think a lot of other movies in the genre are exceptional, but these three are the gold standard

The cool thing about the Joker Theme that Jen brought up is that Hans Zimmer created the sound by running a razor blade against piano strings. He said he wanted it the sound to be unpleasant, build tension and give the audience an uneasy feeling. Like a guitar string getting tighter and tighter. You're just waiting for the string to snap but it never does

I agree 100% with her points, that the best movies are the ones that leave you thinking and questioning, also the performance of the characters and their own moral dilemmas were really juicy. This movie had all and for me it's a 10/10

Something that is rarely talked about with this second film of this trilogy is the sound design. If you listen to that moment with the pencil, you hear squish then thud as the head hits the table. The guy you were talking about also played Abbra Kadabra on the Flash.
