As a longtime protestant fan of Bishop Barron, I have to say - and I don't say this lightly - that this was the best homily/sermon I've heard in a long time. It captures the Gospel perfectly in a way that today's decadent world needs to hear!
These videos have led to extraordinary changes in my life. I started attending Mass on 12/24 with friends and have not missed a week since. I have reached out to my church to learn about RCIA and cannot wait to begin. If someone told me a year ago that I would begin attending Catholic Mass with a strong desire to convert I’d have rolled my eyes and laughed. I was raised in an evangelical home but all I saw was hypocrisy and when I left home I left church in my rearview mirror. I have tried other churches since. I was even the music director for a blended service at a Methodist church for three years. When they cancelled the blended service there was nothing there for me to hold onto.

From the beginning up until the very last, Bishop Barron speaks all important sentences and they are all beautiful crafted yet ironically very difficult to implement at institutional and personal level.
Thank God for the outreach of the Bishop Barron's ministry. It's an engaging intellectual discussion shaped in pure reason that shed's a glowing light on faith as never before.
In 1992, Diana, princess of Wales visited Mother Teresa's missionary home and orphanage, in Calcutta .On her return to the UK she wrote a note to her butler, Paul Burrell.: "Today, something very profound touched my life. I went to Mother Teresa's home and found the direction I've been searching for all these years" "The sisters sang to me, a deeply spiritual experience and I soared to such heights in my spirit. The light shone from within these ladies, saints for want of a better word, such love came from their eyes and their touch was full of warmth." "I was then taken by Sister Federica to the chapel to pray with the novices and sisters." "They sang the Lord's prayer and with our shoes off we prayed together on our knees" Paul Burrell has said in interview that Diana"found a deep spirituality with Mother Teresa. They were so close. There is no doubt, " he says "that this was the inspiration for all the princess' wonderful humanitarian work"
Awe inspiring homily. Our catholic priests have been criticized for short homilies/sermons but it’s not the amount of time spent talking but the quality of the content of these short homilies that count. Your eminence, you speak to our very “soul” in your short homilies that have changed a lot of lives-including mine. May our holy mother continue to lead you in helping poor sinners like myself back to her Son.-amen.
From the catalog of the Musee d'Orsay where the painting is on exhibit: "The work is a history painting, regarded as the noblest genre during the 19th century: it therefore had to represent human behaviour and convey a moral message. This was explained by Couture himself, who quoted two lines from the Roman poet Juvenal, (c. 55-c.140 AD) in the catalogue for the 1847 Salon where the painting was exhibited: "More cruel than war, vice fell upon Rome and avenged the conquered world"".
My grandmother married a moderately wealthy man when I was six in 1958. I remember the California wedding. I also remember how grandma's groom seemed to be the most soulless family member I knew in later years. Everything with him was business. My mother was an only child and died in 1973. That meant an inheritance for us kids when grandma died a year later. Seeing what money did to my grandfather, I waived my inheritance. I had been born again 6 years earlier and preferred to be an obedient "rich" young ruler more than my step grandfather.
The bishop says in this homily, if a soul is rightly ordered it can withstand anything....wealth, fame, etc. Your step grandfather's problem didn't lay in his money, it was in his soul. If your soul is rightly ordered, you should be able to withstand the test of wealth, and use it for God's glory.
In fact Christ does not support the possibility of an individual obtaining worldly success and not losing his soul. It’s quite clear from the context of the verse he is using that anyone seeking salvation needs to foreswear any kind of material involvement - even that perceived to be needed for provision of essentials. Salvation is a lonely journey undertaken by the few, and this man is not even calling the many

These Sunday Sermons are wonderful! My parish priest recycles homilies he purchased about 30 years ago, shortly after he was ordained. He has been with us for over four years, so we're getting our own reruns these days. I'm fine that he uses someone else's writings. Writing isn't one of his gifts. I do wish he would get something more current. Thank you, Bishop Barron, for recording and publishing these teachings. They are a great resource, especially for those of us in the country with few options.
Still come back to this one - my favorite sermon so far - you've helped ignite a radical realization in my thinking and faith. THANK YOU BISHOP BARRON!
Listening to you Bishop, I find deep meaning in their lastnames: Rich vs More. Like when the rich young man asked Jesus what good to do to gain eternal life.
@@JamesRichardWiley Smart argument. I went to Mass and I think I have a feedback. Let's discard friends and family who not even in current days would notify the authorities regarding a beloved one, but remain with those who would do it, as a civil duty. To denounce he was wandering you will need evidence. Suppose your sole word was enough. Then there are 2 scenarios for you: either (a) you are telling the authorities they are liars, because they didn't really kill him in front of so many people, or (b) you accept he was dead and now you saw him alive as promised. In this latter scenario you don't denounce, because quite automatically you convert to his teachings. I think to denounce was not an option. To think it was rumors based on lies, may be an option. But here what astonishes is that it doesn't takes to be as smart as you to requiere evidence, so not to risk the own life for believing in just rumors. And there was people keen to die asserting he was alive. You don't die for fairy tales. So there is something... More.
Today's gospel reading, mt. 16:24, is always my guiding light. Thanks to bishop barron for this homily and all that you do. God bless you, from Kenya 🇰🇪
Seeing that she's fully dressed, one could also interpret this painting as an example of a person that is surrounded by the disordered pleasures which our society offers. She is in the situation, yet does not give into them. A matter of fact, her expression shows a complete disinterest. Her soul (clothing), is still in place regardless of the many temptations... Just another way of interpreting this painting. Thanks for all you do. God bless you Father.
Interesting thoughts. I see her expression as her soul, crying out from a weary place, as if she realizes what you very well stated, "the disordered pleasures which our society offers." It's this weary expression but also an understanding of how lifeless these things are. Very well said, "the disordered pleasures which our society offers." So true.
Two years later, she met some Christians and converted. Then she was disowned by her father and divorced by her husband. She would never see her children again. In fact, her children saw her eaten alive by lions, which led to their conversions as well. They all prayed for their father until he also converted. 😇🙏
This makes more sense to me as an interpretation of the scene because of the woman, alone in her outward gaze, removed from the frolicking and an observer almost, to the debauchery around her. It’s interesting, our perceptions, and that we judge from those perceptions... what is going on inside us, colors our perceptions perhaps.
It is ambiguous. Is she the presiding queen of this picture (her draping might suggest so), or is she an innocent being sucked into vice? The upper part of her is disarrayed. Perhaps her soul is starting to unravel, but she’s not lost it yet - if she had, she wouldn’t notice the horror about her. That’s the definition of having a soul, isn’t it? You cannot shut your eyes and ears to the horror of what’s going on around you.
A comprehensive explanatory of the Gospel chapter. Bishop Baron always bring the Gospel message not just for Americans, but for the whole world. Simple and magnificent. Thank God for his kind and pray for more blessing in his ministry. God bless you
I believe Bishop to address the youths question about God is to tell them that they have a Soul, which is Supernatural and then all discussions will stem from that. Then the reality of Death then in their minds they will ask the question, how then will I always be prepared? God bless Bishop you are my spiritual director across the miles.
Father - Bishop - I was there, but was lucky enough to see the light and repent, reform, rediscover my Catholicism fervently. I pray there is some type of holy parole for those who were like me but did not survive, and died young, before they could figure all this out and repent. I wonder.... Thank you for a great video
Bishop Barron, this was a very moving sermon/homily. Your passion for God and is love is always evident when speaking about the Trinity. Your words never fail to inspire me to keep going, to keep moving, to keep hanging on. God bless you, Shalom. ✝️🇨🇦
Moses and Elijah - the head and the heart - beautiful isn't it - the law and the healing in his wings - blessed be to God Almighty - Holy is His name - it was never about you or me.
Stunning homily by Bishop Robert Barron. The essence of this sermon is the fundamental truth that Jah Jesus Christus outlined. The greatness of a person is not measured by what they have acquired and amassed. Whether it be honor, fame, educational laurels, wealth, friends, lovers etc. It is determined by what they have dispensed and disposed of in love and service to others i.e. charity, aid, assistance, genuine advice. It explains why many great artists and stars suffer from depression and turn to drugs, pedophilia and suicide.
I agree. Fr John Anthony Hardon S.J, taught that we must follow Our Blessed Mothers example by living in charity, chastity, humility, and love of the Cross. Ave Maria. ☘☘☘
Had to go look at the painting. You are right! There is also on the far right of the canvas a man with his head down in despair and another man looking dead on at you with such sadness. Yes it looks like great sadness in a wild party.
Richie RICH... went away sad like the "rich young man" in the Gospel😞 , and it turns out that Thomas MORE really did have more... life, joy, respect , and eternal life. 🕊
as a teenager I thought that my next goal was to be 18 years old.... I would understand and be a young adult, mind changing explosion of understanding.... 18 and one day, life as usual... same at 21... but not at 32... my first child was born. I could not wait to have a being of our love in my hands, smile at it, love it, caress it, give it everything I had come to know and "have" (don't have much at all, but that was enough).. my that changed life instantaneously, as did my marriage a year before. I remember in the late 80s I had received and offer from our CEO to become a director, at the cost of betraying my supervisor (who did not have many virtues to talk about) and a non spoken hint I received. I denied the offer and was "crucified" and I received hints of this sort for many years.. I learned "fiat voluntas tua". (I think). I lost financial well being, but I was blessed. Years later the hints even saved my life!
A brilliant talk here, Bishop Barron. I really enjoy listening to you. I hear many people in the church (and the secular world, certainly) of today speak with a palpable (if "well" hidden) anger and aggression, and it makes a lot of what they are saying (hello Jordan Peterson) unappetizing and strangely hollow. Even if they mean well (which I think most people do), it's polarizing in a bad way. Us vs. them, etc.....You speak of these truths in a way that is simple yet profound, and not confrontational. And your heart is open while you do so (the key). I am a Roman Catholic Christian believer, so your words hit home, but I can share your message with a Pagan friend who will still be open to what you have to say, and learn. That is a gift, Bishop. And we need that very much in our world today. :) JV Johnny
As what the rest of you are saying, this sermon is stunning to say the least! It touches our souls to the core. Amazing how Bishop Barron can conjure such correlations of the gospel with that painting and with the movie "A Man for All Seasons" I am stunned and feel blessed to see and listen to the Bishop!
B Barron, they teach kids in schools....to fill their buckets....in catholic schools by the way....and fill it up with doing good I think it makes things very confusing for kids. Thank you for this .... very important and very much appreciated. God bless you.

Do you think there is a deeper meaning for why the woman is dressed in white?
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ 🙏 Mother Mary Pray For Us 🙏Abba Father Bless us and we Adore You 🙏
I'm reminded of the words of Jesus, "they have had their reward".
A comprehensive explanatory of the Gospel chapter. Bishop Baron always bring the Gospel message not just for Americans, but for the whole world. Simple and magnificent. Thank God for his kind and pray for more blessing in his ministry. God bless you
Indeed...
I believe Bishop to address the youths question about God is to tell them that they have a Soul, which is Supernatural and then all discussions will stem from that. Then the reality of Death then in their minds they will ask the question, how then will I always be prepared? God bless Bishop you are my spiritual director across the miles.
Thank you! God bless you and keep you!
Amen. Thank you, again.
Nailed it, bishop. Good connection of art with the fundamentals of the faith.
Beautiful sermon. I love "A Man for All Seasons", it's my third favorite movie and my favorite movie script. The script really is genius.
Here i Am Lord
Articulation of God's love and truth par excellence! All praise and glory to God in Christ! Thank you, Bishop Barron!
Moses and Elijah - the head and the heart - beautiful isn't it - the law and the healing in his wings - blessed be to God Almighty - Holy is His name - it was never about you or me.
Just so inspiring.Love listening to all your daily homilies, especially on Sundays.God bless you dear Bishop! 🙏
Jésus crucified, you know that I have put my trust in you. Remember me when you come to your kingdom. Thank you Professor Barron!
Ave Maria. ☘☘☘
thank you for this. it helps me put my enemy (my x husnand, his sister, his lover and his money) in persoective.
This is one to listen to daily, one of the best! Thank you Bishop Barron❤
Thanks 🌼

Praying for you Bishop Barron all the way from Myanmar! Thank you for this homily. I feel blessed to have been guided to you.
Thanks, again for a wonderful homily. I look forward to these, each week. God bless you.
Had to go look at the painting. You are right! There is also on the far right of the canvas a man with his head down in despair and another man looking dead on at you with such sadness. Yes it looks like great sadness in a wild party.
What is the painting called?
@@vanceperedo103 Romans during the decadence.
That was wonderful. Thank you, Bishop.
Richie RICH... went away sad like the "rich young man" in the Gospel😞 , and it turns out that Thomas MORE really did have more... life, joy, respect , and eternal life. 🕊
Thankyou Bishop Barron ✝️, I could Listen to you all Day. 😁. Just so Touching and Beautiful 🤗❤️
as a teenager I thought that my next goal was to be 18 years old....
@John Henry McMahon Totally agree with you.
Some magnificent insights here, one of the best sermons ever!
You are doing perfect, Father. Remember. Soft thorns. These people are all dry. A hard word will crumble, a lie, set ablaze. Keep on. We are with you.
God bless you Bishop Barron for helping us save out souls.
❤ Jesus forever!
Powerful homily 🙏
B Barron, they teach kids in schools....to fill their buckets....in catholic schools by the way....and fill it up with doing good I think it makes things very confusing for kids.
Thank you for this .... very important and very much appreciated. God bless you.
You rock!
