I'm continuing to work through my backlog of speedrunning projects, most of which are small projects that I don't intend to spend a lot of time on. This particular game falls under the "child revenge" category, which consists of games I played as a kid and could never beat. The maps are static, so the speedrun mostly comes down to your ability to maneuver Airwolf, ability to avoid damage, and ability to collect extra lives. The fuel stations on each level repair Airwolf and restore heat seeking missiles (but not the tactical nukes, for the stages where you have them) at a cost of about 13 seconds. Losing a life will also repair Airwolf, restore missiles (and will restore nukes on relevant levels) at a cost of around 4 seconds. So in a speedrun you want to reduce the number of trips to fuel dumps and instead either avoid enemy fire well enough to not need repairs, or lose a life to continue on. I am not sure what controls the extra life spawns, and some of them are very tricky to collect. I missed 2 or 3 in this run which would have amounted to close to 30 seconds of timesave if I had gotten them all. I'm sure there are other extra lives as well. As I said in the video, I don't intend to run this any more for now and I am happy to have finally beaten the game.
Most of these projects are very seldom run games so the records are generally not as optimized. But my goal with these runs isn't to "get records", it's to fill my speedrunning résumé with games that I have a connection with. That connection could be childhood nostalgia, great music, satisfying gameplay, or just a game that I felt drawn toward. In this case, it was a childhood game that I could never beat that my Dad bought for me. Otherwise, the game is nothing special at all to me - I don't like this genre, I don't like the controls and I find it a generally frustrating game to play. But I am glad to have finally beaten it. (it does have good music though!)
Darbian has GOT WRS IN ALOT OF DIFFERENT GAMES 7 CURRENTLY AND 20 IN TOTAL INCLUDING LIKE 8 MARIO GAMES HES AMAIZING RUNNER 1 OF THE GREATEST RUNNERS EVER!

So finishing mission 20 is beating the game but I saw a level 21… is this game endless?
And why is satan milking a helicopter?
👹 +🚁 =🥛
@@SARIX5 The levels start to loop / remix after 20. There isn’t much of an “ending” but what you see in this run is about it.
@@darbian thanks for the info. Btw you have an incredible knack for finding crappy games with amazing music 😂 (Alf)
More Darbian videos, more happiness in the world.
darbian is going ham! New WR’s coming out every week! Congratulations! Must be all those healthy dinners prior to streaming.
it's the coke and pizza, obviously

A speedrun of Airwolf?! Have to admit you surprised me with this one, darb. 😂😂 I always manage to screw up around the 12th/13th mission.
Excuse me, what happened with mission 21 - why isn't it part of speed running?
