Thank you so much. Vito is absolutely the man to show what this pedal is capable of. I only wish I did a better job of recording it, because the sound in the room was giving me absolute goosebumps.
Definitely. I think he was just eager to get to playing and didn’t want me to give a history lesson, haha. Either way, I dropped off a nano-sized Lizard Queen at Vito’s place yesterday. It’s going right to use.
He’s such an expressive and joyful player. This is a great ‘special occasion’ format. Definitely introduce us to more of your friends this way. A really neat showcase of the Lizard Queen. Bravo! Can’t wait for my nano to arrive in the mail!
loving the smiles here. great stuff, and man does Vito have some chops! his shake is stunning to see and hear. superb video. "...that extra push over the cliff..." "I'm going cliff diving, man." pure gold.
I think the magic here was that Vito had no idea what to expect. If you can find people like that to match up with other pedals that they have no clue about, and get reactions from them that are as raw and real as this? That would be cool. (Good luck on that, by the way!) Gotta be the best Lizard Queen vid out there hands down. Thanks for deciding to allow what you had on tape go out like you did. That takes courage in these days where everyone is trying to be so polished and produced.
When he said “I’ve heard of it but I haven’t heard it.” I couldn’t help but think of Mike Birbiglia’s bit when he says that if you ask someone if they’ve seen this new piece of tech or news event or whatever and they say “no, but I’ve heard about it.” What they really mean is “I haven’t heard about it… but I like you.” Nice video!
As a fan of EH since the 90s and JHS much more recently, I appreciate what you've done here. Much respect to Vito, who plays better than I could ever dream to, but I still prefer this pedal's response to single coils, the humbuckers strike me as a bit muddy in the context of an overall mix. Admittedly that may be more the pickup's fault than the pedal's.
Okay you got me I'll get a small box one the second I get paid this thing is gonna blow up more than the behringer super fuzz fiasco I think and two shows in one week have we been good kids and deserve such a treat
So, shortly after the pedal was released, a schematic and PCB layout was posted online. I don't normally do so, but I was curious, and snagged it. At the time, there weren't any decent demos of it posted; at least nothing that allowed one to tease apart what was pedal, and what was amp settings, so I decided to build it.. I dickered with transistor selection for a bit. Last night, after watching a related RUclips demo, I incorporated a germanium transistor into my build, since the stage that provides the octaving seems to rely on an NPN/PNP pair close in gain/hfe. The posted schematic was also a little imprecise about a few components - something that I imagine will eventually be revealed. It's a fun pedal, though not one of those where-has-this-been-all-my-life pedals. It's capable of an interesting range of tones, from thick and woolly to frizzy (what one magazine octave-fuzz project once described as "struzz"). What I found interesting is that turning down the guitar volume a bit (say, from 10 to 7) introduces what feels like an entirely different family of "crunch" tones. A pity that you didn't nudge Vito to explore that. I find that, with Balance set to max, and Octave set to min, the sonic difference between neck and bridge pickups is minimal, at best; something that was apparent when Vito switched to the blue dual-HB guitar. Their difference, however, tends to emerge when the guitar volume is turned down a bit. What's nice is that by simply turning the guitar up, you transition from a tone more suitable for hard rock rhythm playing to commanding woolly lead tones of the "violin" variety. Heck, even Eric Johnson might like them. The "octaving" is there, but not nearly as robust and obvious as in, say, the Foxx Tone Machine. One really has to hold a note with some finger vibrato, like Vito does, for any octave "bloom" to occur. But it's there, if in smaller portions. And, as Vito illustrates, you get a little more on the neck pickup than with the bridge. As with any and all analog octave fuzzes, though, if you bend a double stop, you get the characteristic audible *downward* sliding tone, even though the bend should produce an upward change in pitch. But, like I say, having been through easily 10 different analog octave-up fuzzes, they ALL do that. And, like all analog octave-up units, if you reduce the intensity of the "drive" (combination of Balance control and guitar volume setting), crank the Octave control, select the bridge pickup, and pick close to the bridge, you can get a tone similar to an electric sitar. Again, these comments are based on MY build, which also includes a germanium transistor (2SB171, to be precise, paired up with a 2N2222)
Really, did no one get it? Play this Lizard Queen Demo together at the same time with a second RUclips instance, playing this: ruclips.net/video/VzCagoZvB_8/видео.html Haha - I let him play ( from 5:24 ) to `Now You Shred Backing Tracks`: "Colossal Live Pink Floyd Style Jam | Guitar Backing Track in E Minor" ( from start )! That does it for me! 🤗
Well, I don’t have an OctaviX, so I can’t say personally, but based on what I’ve heard, the OctaviX sounds a little thicker, where the Lizard Queen has a raspier sound. Also, the controls are different, so the Lizard Queen shifts between a heavy rounder fuzz on the sun side and the thinner sputtery fuzz on the shadow side.
Though it is not a big muff circuit, the sound is in the same universe but not exactly the same. Less noisy and more articulation than a big muff. I love both but the lizard queen is kicking the big muff off my board
Hilarious how you lied to him, straight-in-da-face, using that fake receipt as a proof.. 🤣 Now wondering, how you justify your own G.A.S. purchases @ home? " Cough..Just need it for my Channel on YT, darling, cough. Business, ya know... Just..cough..business!" 😉😊😇😁😆
Thank you! We had so much fun shooting it, and it was awesome watching Vito discover what that pedal can do. Next time, we’ll do it live and charge admission. Glad you’re enjoying it, and that you were able to find it in stock
Is there anything better than a telecaster going into a classic Fender tweed? It’s the ultimate pedal platform.
Speaking the truth over here
For me a Strat into a Deluxe reverb or a Jazzmaster into a Showman.
gibson classic or such through fender black face or bass man.
Just look at how happy one can be when they're not terminally online 😅
I think that’s probably the real lesson here
Painfully true!
Finally a proper demo of this pedal! This was a blast to watch.
😅
I absolutely love this pedal. I’ve had more fun playing with this than just about any other pedal that I’ve used over the past 30 years
The best demo of this pedal by a long way.
Thank you so much. Vito is absolutely the man to show what this pedal is capable of. I only wish I did a better job of recording it, because the sound in the room was giving me absolute goosebumps.
Great playing, I had the same look plastered on my face when I played this pedal. I am glad to have another pedal channel to watch!
"Oh, the black mold, yup" 😂 Of course, it's a classic🤣. But, very cool to see the sheer joy as he delves in to the LQ.
Definitely. I think he was just eager to get to playing and didn’t want me to give a history lesson, haha. Either way, I dropped off a nano-sized Lizard Queen at Vito’s place yesterday. It’s going right to use.
This is just awesome. Go, Vito go!
I like how he says “black mold” and shows him the paper and Vito acknowledges him like he remembers that pedal lmao.
Man this was a real treat. I love a prank and I love a generous act. Nice work man. Men. Everyone!
He’s such an expressive and joyful player. This is a great ‘special occasion’ format. Definitely introduce us to more of your friends this way. A really neat showcase of the Lizard Queen. Bravo! Can’t wait for my nano to arrive in the mail!
Vito is having a blast! He's a heck of a player too.

I really like that octave blend knob. That's an idea. ;)
Ehx pedals make bends sound so good.
Nice review! I like Vito’s reaction to it. 😀
Shout out to Vito repping the OCD and D&M drive. Both solid pedals. He sounded great using the Lizard Queen too. Tasty octave fuzz tones.
Vito seems like he's having fun 🙂👍 Cool demo
You can see in his eyes how tight that pedal is
Okay you got me I'll get a small box one the second I get paid this thing is gonna blow up more than the behringer super fuzz fiasco I think and two shows in one week have we been good kids and deserve such a treat
Love this pedal
Of course you got that special enclosure. Noice.
I love the pedal! If I didn't play bass 99 percent of time I'd have one!
Sounds great on bass!
AND you got the rarer big box version.
This old guy is playing stuff that sounds like hits that didn’t quite make the cut of a cream record.. superb.

Go Veet! Love it!
nice playing sounds good to me .
I love that it doesn't have an LED!
Yeah… just gotta remember to not leave it “on” when not using it. Already went through two batteries.
@@StompboxBreakdown haha.....oops!
Great vid🎶

Can u make it sound like a roger mayer octavia?
So what's the difference between this EHX octave fuzz and EHX's Octavix?

How does this pedal compare to the ehx octavix?
👍
I'd lose the reverb.
Cool
NOW DO A SIDE BY SIDE WITH THE ELECTRO HARMONIX $99 VERSION AND LETS SEE IF HE HAS THE SAME REACTION. 🤔
Naais
Would you say the fuzz aspect is a big muff style or something else?
Though it is not a big muff circuit, the sound is in the same universe but not exactly the same. Less noisy and more articulation than a big muff. I love both but the lizard queen is kicking the big muff off my board
@@jcwoodstl appreciate it, I figured it was something like that because of what Josh said but I needed another opinion since I bought one !!!
This sounds is totally not for me.
Hilarious how you lied to him, straight-in-da-face, using that fake receipt as a proof.. 🤣
Now wondering, how you justify your own G.A.S. purchases @ home? "
Cough..Just need it for my Channel on YT, darling, cough. Business, ya know... Just..cough..business!" 😉😊😇😁😆
Dudes just showing off his cliche blues guitar 🎸 riffs …. Worst review ever, ever. 😮
That was cool as hell very real and sounded fine. I got a nano one I love it.
Thank you! We had so much fun shooting it, and it was awesome watching Vito discover what that pedal can do. Next time, we’ll do it live and charge admission. Glad you’re enjoying it, and that you were able to find it in stock
