- Woah. We finally did it! The making of the Lizard Queen has been a two-year dream in the making. Once upon a time, Josh Scott and Daniel Danger had the crazy idea to create a pedal in the spirit of a vintage EHX octave distortion. They did a “Faux Electroharmonix Lizard Queen” in 2020, and once Mike Matthews of EHX saw the pedal, he was excited to take on the project and make this dream a reality. Special thanks to Mike and EHX for taking on this project and to Daniel Danger for collaborating with us on the design!

This is truly the golden era of guitar pedals. May it never end. I love the collaboration and the pedal. So much fun and love wrapped up into this. For the Lizard Queen!
Actually the Golden Era for pedals was in the 1970s when all of these pedals were first introduced. That's why people keep copying them. You have to put your mind back to that time when people heard flanger for the first time for example. Or when the phase shifter first came on the market. Once all of those modulation, time delay and reverbs were developed there hasn't been anything truly new in pedals since then really of any significance. Just people making more and better (or worse examples) of those products. Having said that it is great to see people continuing to offer great quality products for good prices.

@Pieter-Jan It's a great time to be a guitar player. I started in the early 70's and at that time if you wanted a cheap guitar you paid 2 to 3 times more than you do now for a cheap guitar and the guitar was half as good as what you can get for that same money today. And that's the truth. Today you can get a cheap guitar, tons of good cheap pedals and a cheap amplifier and you can sound very good and have a great guitar experience. If there's a golden age right now, it's the golden age for guitarists overall. Exactly for those reasons. Ironically, the guitar music back in that era was 1,000 times better than it is today. I am hoping and praying (as I am sure many others are) that changes over the course of the next years and decades. We need a new Jimi Hendrix to blow everyone into the weeds. 🤙🏻
@@Joe-mz6dc Hmmmm. I mostly agree about the gear: there's tons of great stuff at bargain prices! It's never been a better time to be a guitar player. We do differ in opinion on that second part; there's TONS of great guitar players and guitar-oriented bands around today. But you won't find them in the same place where you found the guitar heroes of decades past.

I tuned in with 20 left, and I had to stop myself. This is a really cool art object, and I'm excited for those who get one. I just got back from vacation, and can't justify it. I LOVE the fact that I can get an EHX version for $100 if I want to add the sound to my little pedal collection.
I watched this a day late, but it's still exciting to see an actual art project and art event happen -- because this IS art, people. Serious niche, techno art. A little piece of wire choir history happening right at this point in spacetime. Nice work, gentlemen. Your passion is noted. Plus, it sounds great, so ... there's that.
Daniel's +48 aspergers trait played a significant role in this project. Nice work.

Various pedals ,DunlopDime cry baby from hell Wah pedal , lots of Boss pedals 7 I think. , a few MXR’s EVH Phase 90 and a Super Comp , I actually have almost anything I could ever need… but you know how it goes when you see a new one every once and a while 😄. I think … oh no it’s 15 ! 😄 I forgot about the old 1985 Rat got that for a Birthday present from my parents, when I was 14 ! In 1985! 51 now ! Haha , a Bad Monkey I got for free! 8 years ago Also an old Russian Metal Muff that needs a quick solder on the battery wires and it will work again ( got it given to me for free! ) Most of my gear I bought new , but a couple were from pawn shops like the Boss Metal Zone, I don’t give a shit what the beef is with that pedal nowadays , through a good sized Marshall, Peavy or Laney Amp that thing Kills. I own all 3 and I can confirm 🤟🏻🎸🙂 if you have never tried one I’d give it a go if you can find one. it’s Awesome for such a small pedal and if I want to go heavier new school I stack it with a Boss Hyper Metal. I love the Metal Zone ! wanted one for years and finally found it about 10 years ago, they sound killer but just be picky with the EQ set up it’s crazy adjustable !🤪. My buddy found a small gym bag of guitar gear and a Cakewalk box recording unit ! in a car he bought at an auction and he doesn’t play a note so he gave me all of it for some beer 🍻 😄)
The pedal world owes JHS a huge debt of gratitude!

Thanks for doing what y’all can to combat scalpers. Now we as fans and fellow pedal enthusiasts MUST do our best to combat these apparently outrageous coffee prices in Kansas City

The sound, the design, the price, the nerdiness, the octave knob (btw why isn't this a thing on every octave fuzz?!) If this isn't the perfect Octave Fuzz i don't know what is!

I missed out on a full size vintage collectable, history in the making.
Nick's observation that maxed fuzz becomes tremolo is spot on. I realized one day that fuzz becomes tremolo becomes ring mod and blew my own mind.

I've ordered the smaller EHX version from Sweetwater. Prefer the smaller size and 9V power supply input, and not a knock on the full size version. Looking forward to getting mine and plugging it in, and kudos to EHX, Daniel Danger and everyone at JHS for making the Lizard Queen a reality. 😎

I missed the boat on the big box one, but I am really happy to see an EHX pedal made in a big box. I've always loved the 70s visuals of pedals and how ridiculously they are. I rock a NYC Reissue Big Muff Pi on my board, and will be putting a small clone reissue on my board too, the Lizard Queen looks amazing and it looks like it fits in perfectly with other big box EHX pedals while being it's own thing.
My favorite pedal is still my original Russian big muff with its wooden shipping crate. It’s something I’ve tried to build exact duplicates of but

@@jukkaaronenNot a Josh or JHS simp, but most dirt style pedals from most manufacturers are just clones of the same few base circuits. Kinda the norm.
@@skatertrev7 That's true. The only difference basically is whether you give credit to where you got your inspiration from or claim something our original design (when it's usually not) :D
@@jukkaaronen I agree. I know a number of times Josh has said the Morning Glory is based on a BluesBreaker or that pedal X was inspired by a specific era of Y pedal. I think he often talks topology, but I'm a builder, so I listen for that stuff.
An EQ and a multi effects pedal can replicate almost anything with some exceptions, the most notable being Electro Harmonix’s entire line. Their designers are a cut above

I hope this is the first (public) step in JHS acquiring EHX. No expert here, but I can't think of a more passionate guy (and crew) to take over such a venerable company such as EHX. Mike Matthews is 80+. He's done an excellent job across 7 decades and deserves to retire with the confidence someone will zealously continue the legacy.
Josh should step up to the plate and take the helm.

Mounting the foot switch on the PCB was a smart idea. All the old big box EHX pedals had the PCB hanging off the pots. I used to have to continually reflow the solder joints. Eventually on my Foxy Lady Big Muff I just ran wires to the pots!

Want this octave fuzztortion slapped into my angry Charlie and Sweet Tea, with a gooseneck Bigfoot button to engage. Tried to order the big’n at 10:21 EST. No soup for me. Will grab a small box regardless, because Josh is handsome and KC BBQ is delicious. JHS lives on multiple boards for me. Biggest fanboy right here.

Awesome, you guys are really helping keep the spirit of Rock and roll alive. Screen printing is something used by skaters for the decks. The old school screen printed graphics are seen as the holy grail. Damn the receipt thing was a genius idea!
So glad you showed the schematic (even if it was backwards). Looks like a boosted Escobedo 'push me pull you' with a neat octave blend implementation. It's more than a great innovation. Awesome job, lads!

This is a cool collaboration. Many years ago I attempted to be a guitar player. I read Guitar Player magazine cover to cover. I loved the ads by Electro Harmonix. My paper route never gave me enough money to afford their stuff. This pedal seems to remind me of the music of those times. Even the Lizard King (Jim Morrison) would have a smile for this pedal.
I got my order in and couldn't be more excited. This is a true piece of history!

If you are a guitar pedal nerd and looking for a cool effect pedal combination for your board, look into the JHS Crayon and the Boss OC-5. The Crayon is a pedal that goes anywhere from subtle preamp distortion to absolute gated crusher fuzz. With a super usable EQ Tilt/High-Pass, making it great for studio application. The Boss OC-5 is hands down my favorite octave pedal that I've ever used. Separate octave up and octave down functionality/blend and a switch for vintage mode, and even a switch for guitar or bass application. Together the Crayon and the OC-5 create an absolutely crushing octave/distortion. Plus you can choose whether you want to run the octave into the distortion or the distortion into the octave. Sweetwater finally shipped mine, should arrive on Friday and I can't wait. I would have loved to have got the big box because it's super nerdy and geeky but couldn't get to order one in time. The best all around useful distortion pedal ever is still the grey box DOD PREAMP 250. hands down. I have put everything up against it and it wins the blind hearing test everytime.

The pedal name reminds me of the simpsons episode where Lisa loses her marbles for a bit (Lizard queen episode). Side note: love to see the collaborations. Would love to see a historical, mash-up series with Josh and other builders/companies that released history making pedals.

I jumped on Reverb 6 months or so ago after you demoed a pedal and they were already on there jacking up prices ,so I called the dude out, I said you just watched The JHS Show and now your scalping heads, He Got very mad at me, cussed me, and I loved it.
This is all beyond cool and nerdy. This is love. It is not just love for the pedal, this type of effect, or EHX, it a lotta Love for the pedal community, pedal history and collectors. Well done. Kudos and cheers.

Love these home shopping network episodes where the sold tally gets checked throughout. I've always wanted to buy something off TV, but probably never will at this point...doing this feels like the next best thing though. My only conundrum is that because of work I can't get in on the limited releases, but if I quit my job to get in before they're gone I won't have money to pay for it. Its a real dilemma. Good thing there is the nano version for working stiffs like me. I love that you guys are doing this and I hope you keep doing more cool stuff!
