they look cute until their fleet starts virus bombing your populations and dropping psychic mecha warriors who mind rape your military and obliterate your fleets with their battleships armed with XL tachyon lances and then they enslave whats left of your population and systematically purge them THEY LOOK CUTE TO YOU NOW ?
Great to see you back to Stellaris. Got hooked on your channel with your first run and have been watching your vids since! Great content Quill18, please keep it up!
Love having this go on in the background and tab to it while waiting for research or for someone to declare war on my docile (yet all devouring) swarm.
For those looking for more exciting battles especially in the late game.Try the mods ISBS - i.e. Living Systems, micro Jump, Doomsday weapons, and Improved Space Battles. Also Gods and Guardians is a great events mod.
Yep. Now there's three planet categories with 3 planets each. Homeworld type is 80% habitability, planets of the same category are 60%, and everything else is 20% In addition you cannot settle planets under a certain habitability. You need another species for that. IIRC the planets are: Temperate: Continental, jungle, ocean Xeric: Desert, arid, savannah Cold: Tundra, arctic, alpine
Quill, you might want to read up on the habitability changes for planets - its very different and you may have more competition with the Starfish than you think.
you should always put your corvettes in orbit if not needed, this will save you some ressources, very handy at this game stage ;) u r very klucky guy to play the dlc right now
Habitable worlds % SLIDER! YES! It will definitely make me return to the game. I was always sad how there are too many planets everywhere to settle, which turned it into micromanagement hell. I always used mods for that. Glad to see it in my base game! It's awesome when the game allows you to setup the galaxy to your liking.
I know by next year this game is going to be so different and so much better that it really does it make hard to get playing currently. Still love the game and can't wait for this patch and dlc.
little tip: letting your ships orbit one of your colonies with a starbase / spaceport will reduce their monthly upkeep cost quite a bit. quite important very early and lategame once you try maxing your fleets.
Glad to see you put this out, so my lil girl and me can watch. I love Stellaris and you are so right about beginning game. Its outstanding. Ive been playiing the ST Horizons mod and that will be amazing once its more complete. Theres another mod called Alphamod that is also a complete make over and its amazing as well. CAnt wait to see more and in the morning, when I eat pancakes with my little one, she says "Qwill"? So I like it that we can watch stuff like this without the other stuff that I dont want to expose her to.
I'm not sure but I don't think the pirates actually spawn in until after you create you're first colony, because one time I had them show up long after when I thought they should have. But then again it is patch 1.3 so the best I could do is put the little mystery ghost emoticon in here and call it a day.
Please tell me they reworked space battles. Having my tactical choices limited to "Fight" and "Run Away" was a game killer for me. Well, HAVING to give away direct planet control to AI was the game killer for me until I found a mod disabling this nonsense, but then it was oversimplified space battles.
they did rework it and talked about it in a dev diary, now ship classes matter forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-45-ship-balance.968500/
Thanks for the link. But it is not weapon balance I meant. I mean that once you engage the enemy you have only two choices: carry on or retreat. Sure, ships computers will determine how suicidal it will be, but they all ARE suicidal still. There is no keeping the distance to maximise weapon range and engine speed advantage, there is no rotation of damaged ships to preserve them and possibly give them some time to repair hulls or regenerate shields, there is no way to even tell them which enemy ships should be focused on or which ones the fleet should not bother with. It's super frustrating, especially when I look back at Master of Orion 2, where space battles were pleasantly complex and entertaining, and we're talking about the game released TWENTY YEARS ago.
Paradox games are never finished. Which may be seen as a good thing, or the total opposite, depending on your view, and on how much money you are willing to spend on a single game.
Fortune Cookie I agree, I have always seen it as "ey, more content for a game that I like? Where do I sign?" Not only in Paradox games, also in other things like The Sims, with infinite expansions, and free patches with every expansion. But on the other hand, if someone wants to start playing EU IV (for example), right now, the complete game costs almost 100€ which, for a game (especially a PC game) is a stupid price. So, you know, that is the other side of the coin.
***** Well, considering that other AAA developers are selling their yet unreleased games for up to 150$ with certain DLC expansions that will range up to 60$ or more, 100$ for a solid experience with a shit ton of content is not that bad of a deal. Especially considering that they often go on sale for a significant cut in price. Granted if you are new to Paradoxes games, i'd always recommend you start with the original game first, and if you can get over that one, then jump to DLC's.
I do wonder why you don't plan your game in sectors so you don't have to manage them. Also fan out in an X or a cross and then connect the points. That way you might get a couple other civilizations/federations completely in your borders that you can conquer/assimilate at your choosing rather than expanding out. Your primary goal should be to assimilate an entire quadrant of the galaxy. Then conquer the inner ring and move out as it makes sense.
I don't know why, but all of your videos that are not from a stream are somehow a little funny for me. The sound works only with my speakers, but when I try and watch them with my headphones it doesn't work. Are you doing something fancy with your sound settings while recording or does anyone have any idea what's going on? It's not volume, and any other video on RUclips seems to work just fine.
Doesn't completing the Cybrex chain give you a ring world? I've never been able to complete it, because I always forget about the star chart trading issue with anomalies, but I seem to remember talk about getting a ring world and a unique special resource
It'll lead you to a "Broken Ring World" where you can harvest a unique strategic resource, minerals and engineering points with space stations. It's unfortunately not a habitable world.
I just started a series.. I've only played 2 games so far.. I don't understand the purpose of sending out your military ship and or construction ship to explore.. ? I generally make a second science ship and just start surveying everything around me and make my way out.? Is there some advantage to sending your military out? Doesn't that cost more resources than if you left it at orbit in your home world? Thanks.. good video.. I'm still learning so I like this series so far.
DARTH Low Intel means you can't see enemies or planets there, Medium Intel means you've been there or its in sensor range (colonies provide sensor range mainly) (dotted line is sensor range). Revealing places to send science ship asap increases efficiency.
Is anyone else having problems using the "add_ship" console command? Before the update, I could type in add_ship [ship name] 10 if I wanted 10 Gato ships. After 1.3, the game thinks the number 10 is part of the ship name and says "there is no ship named Gato 10"... So basically the only way to spawn ships using this command is to type add_ship Gato over and over and over again, each time only giving 1 ship. Is this just me? Or a bug in the update? Gato is just an example name I'm using btw.
So got a big question may seem a little rude but I got to ask Is Quill a good player cuz I want Indeep gameplay and explanation of the game so I can figure out how to play it And not to much derp
Anyone know is there any way i can see what peace treaty two warring AI factions ( who are unossociated to me ) made. It always said that they made a peace but not who won and what are the consequences?
I wouldn't have cared for the kind of lens flare you see in movies. I think that kind was present before the patch, even. But here, when you see him zooming in or out on the system view, you get a screen wide lens flare that causes a lot of brightness changes. That's jarring. It's probably worse here because of Quill's very bright home star.
228zip It's not jarring at all. It's a really subtle effect that doesn't even happen in the center of the screen most of the time. It also almost always happens when you go like close to a star, which isn't that common. I think you're over reacting just a little bit.
Noticing obvious mistakes and then realizing that one does the same mistakes every second time ^^ Also: when did the automated sub-titles become this good?
Even press preview version of patches... sigh. Don't get me wrong, I like you playing stellaris again but seriously why can't they just the release the damn thing in full, it's only a different version of the same game for crying out loud!
Have you seen the improvements that are in this new patch? Check Dev Diary on Stellaris forums for new features and improvements in this 1.3 patch. It's a fairly noticeable difference.
TheEmperorSRB Still press previews are only made for hype and I can't escape the fact that continue to hype a few months old game is a good direction for games in general. I want to like Paradox, they make games that aren't quickly made by others. However there is something as overdoing something and these practices are on the edge of that. For me it doesn't matter how much they changed, it's the principle. You can leave press previews for soon to be released games not for ones who are already out for months, a trailer and gameplay will suffice. At least that's my opinion.
Jaap Gramsma Press reviews are sent out to multiple people in order for them to spread more coverage about the game in question, so people can get informed on whether or not to buy the said game before the game actually releases, or in this case, whether or not to buy the DLC before it's out. General public made them hype magnets, their actual purpose is as stated above. I personally don't understand why you find it bad for developers to spread coverage of their games, released or not. This is essentially gameplay. The only bad thing about press releases is that they get to play the said game some time before you.
Joshua Sweetvale I'm enjoying the playthrough irrespective though :) And everyone else is using the new race so its actually good he didn't. Anyway, I was just wondering not complaining. LOL
+quill18 dit you know you can change your government ingame in your government tap to the right of your governing ethics the blue circle with the white hand thing click it and every 20 years you can change your government even very powerful advanced governments
Third patch, and they haven't yet introduced even a box select for systems' visits/surveys, or whatever other way to avoid the nightmarish micromanagement hell it becomes to individually select new stars to visit and survey from the very early midgame onwards. Bought this game when reviews came out fine, and dumped it aside a week later, waiting until they'll manage this quite brainless busywork UI, yet they don't seem interested in it seems. Anyone knows mods fixing this hell?
Are you referring to the expansion planner that was shown IN THIS video? Or are you referring to the auto explore option for science ships that's also in this patch? Read the patch notes before you complain.
***** Are you referring to my text? I am referring to the fact you have to single click every silly system you see to visit, as shown in THIS video as you like to capitalize words, and then re-click them again once you've met an alien as it is shown in THIS video. Look, being angry at someone for pointing out something faulty about something you like, aka being a fanboy, is actually ok, it protects you. It is more generally called cognitive dissonance, and it is the thing that made you not read what I am writing, in fear it may show a fault in something you are obviously emotionally invested in. So don't feel bad you replied to something you just imagined I wrote, it's just you protecting yourself from reality.
SeventyFive No, I'm clearly not referring to your comment despite replying to it. Genius. As for your comment this only happens when you have your fleet to evasive. Obviously when it's evasive and it runs into hostile fleets it's going to drop everything and flee to the home world. Sure it's annoying but it's not some huge, broken issue like you're making it out to be. Also it's amazing how salty and offended you got at my reply, you're trying really hard to condescend me and it's fairly entertaining. Any other small problems you want to whine about? Or how about you actually compliment all the great new shit in this patch and DLC and stop focusing on tiny little annoyances like they're the end of the world.
***** So now you've accepted everything I've said, but reverted to justifying why these design flaws exist, and diminishing them. I could argue with you that evasive could just skip a system and inform the user, or let you decide whether to reset, but why argue? You now chose to change your tune entirely and go for diminishing others' issues, to glorify the basics Paradox does for profit. So you ask why do I condescend devoted fan comments like yours? You sound well under your twenties, so sorry for doing it again, but your uncritical devotion to a corporation brings the industry down, by funneling money without question. You sound like a native speaker, but for me, it's good night now, so sorry for offending you with my mod query, do enjoy your game unconditionally!
SeventyFive Three paragraphs of you trying too hard to seem intelligent, not reading. Next time the developers spend their valuable time giving you a bunch of amazing shit for free don't be such an entitled, arrogant twat and start whining and over exaggerating about small things that annoy you and demand that they fix those small things. Good luck in life with your terrible, immature attitude.
"...incorporate them gently into our empire." -- Truly Canadian imperialism is a terrifying thing.
Sorry, eh ?
Jeremy Alexander Absolutely terrifying.
Stellaris is fun, I hope they just keep making it fun
slowly but surely Stellaris is going to become a full spreadsheet with a galaxy as a background.
Exactly how I like my Paradox games.
Nuh, it`s still EUIV-in-space whatsoever.
Oh man I didn't know how much I missed Stellaris until I saw this. Nice one, Quill.
No!
Not fair! i have to waith for leviathans for 3 more day's!
-Furiously sits behind PC and watches anyway*
Indeed. DAMN YOU QUILL !!! DAMN YOU !
Lol, first alien species Quill meets is a superadorable species. xD
They really look cute though, like an alien plushie.
they look cute
until their fleet starts virus bombing your populations
and dropping psychic mecha warriors who mind rape your military
and obliterate your fleets with their battleships armed with XL tachyon lances
and then they enslave whats left of your population and systematically purge them
THEY LOOK CUTE TO YOU NOW ?
Starfish Troopers
Shit. Too late. :) I guess it was inevitable.
That's how they catch prey
At least we are slaves of super cute aliens!
Great to see you back to Stellaris. Got hooked on your channel with your first run and have been watching your vids since! Great content Quill18, please keep it up!
wait. What do I see there? A RALLY POINT SYSTEM !?
The God-Emperor be praised!
They really outdid themselves with this new patch. I've been following the Dev Diary since they started working on it, it's amazing.
Building research stations has never been smoother
praise the God-Emperor indeed! It seems the Ruinous powers are losing their grasp upon the mid-game.
quill never contact alliens your closest neighbors will always do it and will save you the cost
It gives you 60 influence, when you contact them first though. So not entirely wasted
The influence points you get for contacting them is really great for colonising though.
So glad to see stelaris back in the playlist!!
thank you for playing this again, I loved your let's plays of this before and really wanted to see more.
Stellaris Leviathans Hype!
Beware the starfish troopers.
"Come on you Somasteroidas! You wanna live forever?!"
Oh man, the starfish homeworld is.. Kunn-Ti. They're literally Kunn-Ti starfish.
22:40 the adorable starfish waved at you Quill! :D
idk why but watching quill play makes me feel a lot better
I'm loving the sentient woodlice with normal sounding western names aesthetic.
Love having this go on in the background and tab to it while waiting for research or for someone to declare war on my docile (yet all devouring) swarm.
Stellaris! Please make this a regular series, love this game, love your work, best of two worlds!
For those looking for more exciting battles especially in the late game.Try the mods ISBS - i.e. Living Systems, micro Jump, Doomsday weapons, and Improved Space Battles. Also Gods and Guardians is a great events mod.
Please tell me they fixed the whole Planet Type adaptability thing, like how a Tundra race is more comfortable on a desert world than a arid world.
Yep. Now there's three planet categories with 3 planets each. Homeworld type is 80% habitability, planets of the same category are 60%, and everything else is 20%
In addition you cannot settle planets under a certain habitability. You need another species for that.
IIRC the planets are:
Temperate: Continental, jungle, ocean
Xeric: Desert, arid, savannah
Cold: Tundra, arctic, alpine
3:28 It applies to planetary tiles.
Specificly, it applies to the tiles worked by a POP with that trait.
Cool, was thinking about reinstalling for the Heinlein patch.
Good to get a preview!
Quill, you might want to read up on the habitability changes for planets - its very different and you may have more competition with the Starfish than you think.
you should always put your corvettes in orbit if not needed, this will save you some ressources, very handy at this game stage ;) u r very klucky guy to play the dlc right now
I recently bought Stellaris and love watching your Stellaris videos while I play. Teaches me alot. Could you make more up to date videos? Thank you.
Habitable worlds % SLIDER! YES! It will definitely make me return to the game. I was always sad how there are too many planets everywhere to settle, which turned it into micromanagement hell. I always used mods for that.

that is one hell of a powerful technology planet you start with
Love the new video quill can't wait for more
At 21:30 looks like there's a new "Cede Frontier Outpost" CB :o
Happy to see a return to Stellaris
God damn press preview builds, you got me excited!
Missed the Stellaris play through regardless glad it's back even if only for a little while \o/
Wooo new Stellaris! 🙌👾
the expansion planner is easily the best quality of life feature
Glad to see you put this out, so my lil girl and me can watch. I love Stellaris and you are so right about beginning game. Its outstanding. Ive been playiing the ST Horizons mod and that will be amazing once its more complete. Theres another mod called Alphamod that is also a complete make over and its amazing as well. Ah yes the space Canadians! how *nice*! Hope you have a good *party*!
MORE STELLARIS!
The sludge-thing is named Erica Oak :D
I like the shiny new bloom
I'm not sure but I don't think the pirates actually spawn in until after you create you're first colony, because one time I had them show up long after when I thought they should have. But then again it is patch 1.3 so the best I could do is put the little mystery ghost emoticon in here and call it a day.
oooh, Tarazed system... now I want to play endless sky
Pause the game when choosing a new research, you wasted two research ticks debating whether or not to get the 20% border growth
not a waste, it gets stored and then double of your research tick is applied subsequently (catching up quickly).
Ha, it's funny this old (wrong) point is still made.
This may be true, but because of his activ edict at this time he wasted ing and phy points and influence.
Did they modify the start of the game to stop the game from crowding the player no matter the size of the galaxy or number of empires?
Yes, there is an option for no clustered starts. Quill somehow didn't see it for whatever reason.
its useless anyway bec it seems to be broken right now...tested it on and off empires still start clustered togheter anyway
Made my day: "OH MY GOD THEY'RE ADORABLE!!!" :))
Awesome.
I'm so jelly!
It kills me that he didn't continue. To investigate when the gamma aliens had a home world marked
Great video... love your tone. Have an upvote!
At 2:26 he said industrialist but it is supposed to say individualist
Finally.
That's gotta be the most unlucky home system ever.
Please tell me they reworked space battles. Having my tactical choices limited to "Fight" and "Run Away" was a game killer for me. Would you recommend this game? Im thinking about getting it and am wondering your about thoughts on the game
yay more stellaris!!
YAAAASSS! I'm so pump!
ahh, the good old galactic south-west
Yes more stellaris
An auto survey button? THE GOD EMPEROR IS PLEASED!
any plans for new EU4 DLC ?
They got rid of the planet wheel. And Quill didn't get to see it because he picked a random empire :(
Has Paradox finished this game yet? Last time I tried was patch 1.2, and then it was still very much an alpha/early access game.
This game was released few months ago. These are improvement patches, and this one is the biggest one yet, and amazingly good.
Paradox games are never finished.
Which may be seen as a good thing, or the total opposite, depending on your view, and on how much money you are willing to spend on a single game.
Hard to complain when their DLC patches always come with major additions/changes for everyone, in my opinion.
Fortune Cookie
I agree, I have always seen it as "ey, more content for a game that I like? Where do I sign?" Not only in Paradox games, also in other things like The Sims, with infinite expansions, and free patches with every expansion.

Granted if you are new to Paradoxes games, i'd always recommend you start with the original game first, and if you can get over that one, then jump to DLC's.
At the very beginning I think I saw an alien species in the starting menus "Mongols" and the name I think was "The Exception" wut.
Monark Roy That would be a reference to a John Green video series, World History Crash Course.
I hope they fixed all silly imbalances now.
Oh come on, i thought it was out already.
I do wonder why you don't plan your game in sectors so you don't have to manage them. Also fan out in an X or a cross and then connect the points. Whilst I love this game, I forgot how boring it is to watch others play it.
We *neeeeeeeeeed* our Rights of Man!
I don't think that the colony placement boost adjacent energy tiles. I think it's only food and minerals.
it boosts energy
Kamil Ciemnoczołowski First level (maybe also second) only boost minerals and energy, but the third level definitely boosts energy.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know that.
idk why but stellaris felt so satisfying after spore
do i need to start a new game Leviathans Story Pack to take effect?
love this game, but im sad because my old pc has a hard time with late game. takes almost 1 full second per day on fastest speed. :(
"South west in the galaxy"?
Can you say that? There is no north, south, east and west in space :P
Well, the Galaxy map is constrained to a certain orientation, so I guess you could :P
Cyberhunter01 Well that's not as good as I'd hoped
If you can liberate a fallen empires planets you can vassalise them after for their ringworlds
I just started a series.. I've only played 2 games so far.. I don't understand the purpose of sending out your military ship and or construction ship to explore.. ? Not enough minerals
So got a big question may seem a little rude but I got to ask
Is Quill a good player cuz I want Indeep gameplay and explanation of the game so I can figure out how to play it
And not to much derp
It makes me sad that nobody reads the text anymore. To me that's always been one of the game's strengths.
Anyone know is there any way i can see what peace treaty two warring AI factions ( who are unossociated to me ) made. It always said that they made a peace but not who won and what are the consequences?
Please... And thank you..
just makes me wish we'd gotten a sword of the stars 3, instead
do i buy this game?
is there a better space sim than stellaris? that is as pretty and a easy to use UI
Does anyone know if the new patch will help out with the notorious crash at 30% loaded?
It didn't happen to me yet, so...
The bloom I could get. But lens flare ? Please tell me there's an option to turn it off D:
It's barely even noticeable. I don't see how it's annoying in any way.
I wouldn't have cared for the kind of lens flare you see in movies. I think that kind was present before the patch, even.

Also: when did the automated sub-titles become this good?
i like rimworld.
Could you compare for us Stellaris and Endless Space ?
Stellaris > Endless Space
A little insight about your motives on that opinion might be useful ;)
Endless space is a light casual game, this is not, they do not compare easy.
while similar settings, completely different games. endless space is like civ and stellaris is like Europa universalis
Is this heinlein?
Even press preview version of patches... sigh. Don't get me wrong, I like you playing stellaris again but seriously why can't they just the release the damn thing in full, it's only a different version of the same game for crying out loud!
3 day's my friend
then we can play ourselves.

why people dont split their inital fleet to speed up scouting/exploration.. pff
lol just noticed you called Individualists INDUSTRIALISTS
Why not the new race?
Charlene van As because he randomized it...
RampagingPigg I know her randomised it that is why i am asking why he randomised it instead of playing the new race.
Charlene van As There is no singular new race.
Joshua Sweetvale I'm enjoying the playthrough irrespective though :) And everyone else is using the new race so its actually good he didn't. Anyway, I was just wondering not complaining. LOL
Starts with 6 systems within his borders, complains about a crappy start... O.o
+quill18 dit you know you can change your government ingame
in your government tap to the right of your governing ethics the blue circle with the white hand thing
click it and every 20 years you can change your government even very powerful advanced governments
*****
Are you referring to my text?

So now you've accepted everything I've said, but reverted to justifying why these design flaws exist, and diminishing them.
