Feet are painted by air brush, multiple layers and the bags you see contains wet cotton balls and I use them to keep the feet moist and soft till I work on them later.
Gauge depends on the birds and their position. Very seldom you can use the same gauge in legs and wings. They are usually different. I used 12 and 14 on this one.
@@ArtofTaxidermy so if I want to mount large ducks like mallards and pintails, what gauge would you choose/recommend? I want to do both standing and flying mounts. Thanks!
@@thelifeofreed5367 16 for wings and neck. 14 or 13 for legs should work just fine.. . if the skull is casted then you might want to use 13-14 for neck too....
Pretty much … most like to blow dry first … except very large birds like Turkey I don’t see any benefit in that .. so I towel dry the bird the best I can, then mount and finally blow dry. The skin stays moist a lot more and longer this way.
What gauge annealed wire do you like to use for ducks and geese? Also what gauge wire do you use for your main support wire, or mounting wire. Do you have a preferred thread you like when sewing up your birds? Thank you, I have been watching your videos daily now. I am learning a lot!
Hey Karl thanks for your watching. I’d use gauge 12 for this goose position. And gauge 9 for anchoring it. I don’t really have any thread preference. Anything you can sew with will work. Cheers
Nice work man , totally weird way to mount a bird … I start with the Body , neck attached and hot glue head on and go from there ….and from my findings it’s much harder to dry birds on the body .. but works for you .. looks great
Does taping and carding the primaries in place and leaving for a few weeks keep them up like that or are you using more wire or something to keep the primaries set up like they are in the finished mount? Thanks
Awesome video!
I’ve always wanted to get into taxidermy and I think I just found a perfect channel to learn!
I hope you can use it as much as possible.
One of my favorite poses for landing waterfowl!! Great job Ben
Thanks Barry.
Great work my man I’m just a teen and just started doing taxidermy love your videos they help me out so much learning
Good luck. Im glad you like them.
Another Masterpiece! Outstanding Mount!
Thanks john
Did you wire through the radius or go to the alula? Looks nice
No.. you just card it to dry that way.
Ben hello, tell me how and how you paint paws for products. and what's in the bags on the paws.

@@ArtofTaxidermy clear, thanks a lot
Looks damn good Ben!
Thanks Pete
Beautiful.
Thank you

So do you just wring out the skin and get it say half dry for assembly…. then assemble and blow dry?
Pretty much … most like to blow dry first … except very large birds like Turkey I don’t see any benefit in that .. so I towel dry the bird the best I can, then mount and finally blow dry. The skin stays moist a lot more and longer this way.
😊 thank you

How do the wings stay after you take the tape off ,do you use a spray or something?
The skin dries while it’s taped. So when the tape is off they will stay because they dried.

Thanks , isn’t interesting to see how the same thing gets done differently. 😄 thanks for watching , cheers.

there is wire inside wings too. Inside wire keeps the wing shape and position. Tapes and carding keeps the wing feathers in place.
@@ArtofTaxidermy gotcha, thanks for the reply. Videos are great.
@@jtfussell6588 No worries, Thanks for watching.
I noticed this, why don't you make the incision on the wing on waterfowls? Is it to properly clean it out because waterfowl are really greasy?
I have done it both ways. But as you said waterfowls being so greasy I find it easier to invert the wings rather than making an incision.
Nice video
Thanks
Awesome
