Bravo Kevin! A bit of history...25 years ago I was the product manager for a software company that was partly funded by Adobe. The company had an add-on for Acrobat that created a layer that would put fillable form fields into PDF documents. The technology was ahead of its time. When Adobe caught wind of how good it was, they decided to make form fields integrated into their Acrobat product. Overnight it put me out of a job. The company folded. Adobe got the technology, and the rest is history. So, I feel great about Libre Office thumbing their nose at giants like Microsoft and Adobe by giving away the functionality that those giants sell. And, you said it right that the price Adobe charges is exorbitant. If it was a more reasonable cost, I might go with genuine Adobe products. But, thanks for showing us this alternative. Libre has some bugs, but, it is still very functional.
Was this, by chance, LiveCycle Designer? I LOVED, loved, loved, LC. Then Adobe said, "we can do it better" and things went to shit. I sit here now, struggling to finish one form I've been working on for days. I'm getting gray hair waiting for this thing to move half-cm!!
Interesting comment. A question please. Can you upload pdf into libreoffice and add pdf fillable forms directly? Or must you pass through a document before downloading as pdf?
Thank you, Kevin. I used Libre Office several time when I had Linux on one my old laptops years ago. The two things that I learned from this video, which I didn't know before, are: 1) Libre is available for Windows as well 2) Libre can make fillable PDF documents THANK YOU. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
That was great! Anyone who works in an office as clerk, where they do forms the old fashion way, and watched this got one possible path to a gold star.
DEAR LORD THANK YOU!, Ive been trying for a so long to find a program that will allow me to make custom character sheets for my homebrew table top RPG games. I needed this so that I can send them to people and we can play the game online. absolute life saver
Kelvin, I know I have said this before, but just wish to repeat that u are God-sent.....an absolute great content creator..... simply unmatchable.. please keep up the good work!
Thank you for your great video. I really appreciate that you talk so fluent and clear that me and others with different languages can completely understand. Nice job💛
THANK YOUU! I run a sorority and with the pandemic, turning in PDF forms strictly online for the other girls who may not have the same resources to edit things online on their devices has been HECTIC!!! This is truly truly what I needed!
Thank you very much, Kevin! I've been asked to turn our forms into fillable PDF since I started working and I'm so glad I watched your tutorial You are a life saver!!!! More power!
I have been looking for a video that explained in a straightforward way, exactly how to do this in Libre Office and this tells me everything I needed to know to get moving with it. Thank you for posting this!
thank you. I find your videos very easy to follow. And it's cool to hear that almost robotic/mechanical sound of your voice. It actually keeps me interested in everything you have to say.
this is exceptional. I have to create a consultation form for physical therapy and I was researching the different options. This is will save me a lot of money in monthly rental fees for clinical note-keeping software!!!
Wow! Your tutorials are amazing, I've learned so much! I used Libre Office for a long time when I couldn't afford to buy Microsoft Office and I'd forgotten I had it installed on my laptop :)
Nice to see you don't restrict yourself to Microsoft; although, as an Office 365 subscriber, I think they ought to have this ability within Microsoft Office. If they truly want to be the office 'go-to', then they should add every useful capability, whether they thought of it or not. I think you will agree that the ability to create a fillable pdf form is something that Microsoft should definitely include in their Office suite. It is something that all government department would appreciate.
Hi Kevin! Just wanted to thank you for your tutorial. I have been searching online for an 8.5 x 11 editable recipe template and could not find one that I liked. So, I thought to myself... how hard could it be to create my own? I searched how to create a fillable form and found your tutorial!!! Whoo Hoo! I just finished the video and am creating my template now! You are THE BEST!!! Thanks again from Valerie B. in California!!!
This video is super handy! It helped me create a fillable agenda for meetings. However, I have come across that sometimes, when the document is emailed, and opened and downloaded by the recipient, the recipient cannot edit the form. It like converts to a straight PDF. In comparing to one that is editable to one that is not, I noticed that the document properties changed from "Writer" to "PDFium." The PDFium format is not editable at all. If you Kevin, or some knows of a way around this it would be much appreciated. Super helpful video! And thanks again.
Congratulations.. The first TOA I ready fully and they were incredibly clear. Fun! The sense of humor and completeness works for my extreme level of OCD. 🤠
Kevin. You're the best! I could always find an answer to everything I need to do my volunteer work with a non-profit organization, and you have such a wonderful and simply way of explaining things. Thank you so much!!!
By far the best and clearest tutorial on Writer fillable forms I've seen. Thank you very much ! Please, is it possible to do another tutorial on some advanced features on this topic ? This would be great. Thanks again.
Kevin, you are a fantastic teacher! I teach online courses on Coursera, and I think you may be better than me. Oh, my gosh, did I say that? Thanks for putting these fantastic explanations out here for us.
Yay! Haha, was waiting for this tutorial! Really helpful and beneficial for all as everyone use these in today's world in the situation of online meetings and classes. Really helpful again, Thanks: )
I would love if this form could send responses to Google Spreadsheets. I love Google Forms but this sometimes is a better way to work with less advanced users.
Thank you so much was getting frustrated not being able to find a PDF editor that would allow me to edit files (without paying a monthly subscription), for tabletop RPG character sheets and other resources. Low and behold I had one already installed on my PC, that I never even thought to check.
I studied in a non-profit college built by IBM. So you guessed it, no Microsoft software available for us to use and we were trained to use Lotus. Student forums suggested we use Open Office software and it has been a life saver cause computers at home were all Microsoft!
Kevin. Thank you so much. I've used this software for years on and off, but never knew this existed. Perfect timing since I'm making some rubrics and wanted to convert to PDF.
I love working with your tutorials. You get to the point and video/audio editing is superb. As an instructional designer value these attributes in a tutorial. Thank you
Excellent video thank you. One question, what if you want more than one type of cookie 🍪 on the order form with different amounts. Could you have more than one choice to save filling in more forms for the different cookies you want.
Time has run out. The dropbox is closed. Im going to fail this test. All because my teacher was too thick headed to simply make a google doc people can copy and paste to edit. But no. Im going to fail history. Thanks a lot Ms Lane.
A great, clear, concise and helpful video. I've looked to see if MS Word does something similar, but I'm going to try out your suggestion here. Seems so easy!
Thanks so much for a great video! I've been looking for a while for a good, free and safe option to make a couple of fillable pdfs. Your instructions are perfection!
The ability to export it as HTML is a useful feature if you want to put this fillable form online as a webpage. People can fill out the form on a web browser and save the resultant filled form as a downloadable PDF or print it out. Moreover, with some server-side scripting, you can put a Submit button on the form and the site visitors can electronically submit the info directly to you. This information can be aggregated into a back-end database for further analysis.
Hey Kevin this was super helpful, but i want to do this whole process of filling the form on mobile phone then use a submit button to collet the data all people filling the same form through mobile phone only It will really help me if you can figure this out Thanks
This is great, thank you. Is there a way to add a signature on the website online? So clients can fill in their details and sign the document once and submit it?
Great learning, except I am having difficulty with creating a Signature box. When I export it finally as a PDF form, it doesn't seem to work. Can you do a video on that particular function? I will subscribe. Oh, also, not able to do the add DATE calendar option, nor the Figures feature to set to Dollar Value. I'm missing process sections. Thank you.
Wow, great tool full of options, Kevin! The next tutorial should be "how to extract all responses from the form" to a Calc worksheet, GSheet, Excel, etc. Would it be possible for the form to calculate subtotals and grand total?
Kevin, you sound like a professional tech trainer in tone, content and delivery. You also sound like you really enjoy doing these videos 😀 Well done with lots of info, anticipating many viewers' questions. The form is great though I would have liked to see also address and contact details for the client. In my particular application, I also need the client to select specific area of their body that is painful. We used to do this with an image so people could cross over the exact area(s): not so easy to convert to a form (and using a list of body parts is not quite the same)....
you r the best bro but make an advance video on MS Word & Also the PDF version in details so that we can watch the whole procedure in one video. Once again thank you for such a video. Keep it up!!!
Hi, is there a way to add a signature on the document? You've added text and boxers but is the a way to add a space where someone can literally sign the document?
Coincidence ! I am looking for this video from the last 2 days. you made it . thanks kevin , keep going like this ... This is very nice and interesting topic, once again thank you.
Very interesting! Office Libre already sits in my application folder. Works like a charm to open old Appleworks files. I'm betting it will handle PDF creations as well. Thanks.

Do you know why the PDF was imported into excel as blank? The data in the field doesn’t appear at all.
Can you please fix the bug and destroy adobe's breadwinner?
