My chickens hatched eggs and only one successfully hatched so she had three moms and no siblings along with one dad. But the dad died and one of the moms doesn't like her cuz she's a different breed... But the chick is two months and healthy
Oh, thank you so much. Yes, we have had some very, very nice silkies over the years. As far as the goofiness of a setting hen - I have to agree. We have one on the nest right now and at least three more 'thinking about it." There's a whole lot o' clucking going on out there! :) Thank you again for watching and for taking the time to comment! Cindy Lou Willson I have 2 setting Orpintons right now, but no eggs. I dont want any chicks right now, but i just love to go pick them up and love on them. They make such a racket but never even think about pecking. I also have a tiny black silkie, but lost my little buff one last yr. She lived in the house. She had a little crate next to my bed that she would go to bed in. She was my shadow. She was always glued to my foot. Vet thought it was reproductive ca. I felt like i lost part of my soul. But it was worth it. Sorry for blabbering 😊 Are your silkies a particular type? Other than white? Mine are much smaller than your. Do you raise chicks to sell?
That is awesome. That's what I have setting, too. Orpingtons. As far as silkies, I have stopped raising them, as keeping them clean was a challenge. Mostly I raised bearded buff silkies, but we also had lavender, black, splash, blue, and of course, white. We loved them, but they required a lot more care than the rest of our flocks. I have a special needs child, so sometimes things that require more of my time need to go. I still am sad I gave them up, though. My favorites were the bearded buff. They are hard to come by - especially good quality ones. As far as keeping in the house, I've had many customers over the years that kept their pet chicken (and in one case TURKEY) in their house. They wore diapers and fit right in as the family pet. I'm so sorry you lost your sweet buff. I know and understand what pets they can become. We've had many over the years we've grown very attached to. As to raising chicks to sell, I do, but they are pick up only. I don't ship live birds. I do however ship hatching eggs throughout the U.S. :)
Cindy Lou Willson Im in Az where are you? Its way easier to keep silkies in the house. Of course the one that was my constant companion got baths and was as neat as could be. With those feathered feet its impossible to keep them free of poo. I bet your lavender silkies were just gorgeous. I just lost my white cochin hen who was 13yrs. She was a house pet too. She was just the sweetest thing. Keeping cochins clean is a nightmare too. She felt like a ball of fluffy cotton. Chickens make such wonderful pets. So how long did these little duckys stay with their silkie moms? They are just adorable together. I had let my little black silkie set on one of the eggs from my polish roo and my wyandotte hen. They were so cute together. The chick was yellow as could be with his blacker than black mom. Plus he got so big so fast. He was as big as mom in nothing flat. But she was the best mom. The chick grew up to be absolutely beautiful. Hes huge, twice as big as his dad. And about 5 different colors. Hes got the longest spurs ive ever seen. It been really nice chatting. I could talk about chickens forever 😊
They were telling you off and then some. Really they should watch their language around the children. Oh, well... at least it was in a different language.
Yes, Silkies are extremely fluffy. Very unique also as they have black skin, bones, and meat. Their feathers are more like hair than feathers. Very neat chickens! :) Thank you for taking the time to comment!!!
I lost one of my baby bunnies when my cochin adopted it (stole it from it's mom) so I gave the cochin 10 duck eggs. she's happily setting but I don't know what will happen when my ducks & chicken see cochin come out with baby ducks in tow. animals are funny. looks like you've got motherly silkies...have fun.
Yes, it makes it SO EASY when you can have a hen raise them. These silkies are so great at motherhood. I wish they were BIGGER for more chicks. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to watch and also to leave a comment. Every view, comment, like, subscribe, and share helps our little channel to grow. It is much appreciated!
It seems like I always have my silkies go broody in pairs. I had a doghouse in my pin that they Would sleep in at night and I had too many silkies to keep track of and one day I go back there and find two hens sitting on eight teen chicks.
Thank you! We raised them for years and I can't recall the original stock, but they are from years of breeding and pulling in from outside, etc. Thanks for taking the time to watch and also to leave a comment. Every action helps our little channel to grow. Thank you! It's much appreciated!
Farmer Nate You can, but you'll have a problem when the baby mama goes swimming (in case you have a big pond or a river near by). Female turkey can raise ducks and chickens as well.
I have a non-bearded white silkie bantam a bearded white silkie bantam and a bearded grey silkie bantam and all 3 of them are broody right now but I don’t have room for more babies ☹️☹️😞
Ah, silkie hens... I had a absolute BITCH of a hen who when brooding would even go after our rooster, and he was a Buff Orp! And it is HIGHLY amusing to watch this huge rooster come running over to me with the hen (We called her Bitchie, and yeah, she responded to it) right on his ass...
They cannot see very well. This makes them especially susceptible to predators. Some folks will trim their feathers or tie in a pony tail holder. :) On a side note, don't forget many here are children. Expressing your thoughts in a more G rated fashion would be appreciated. Thanks!
Silkies lay cream colored eggs. Ameraucana, Araucana, Legbars, Easter Eggers, and a few other breeds lay blue, blue green, or shades in between. Silkies only lay cream eggs unless they are mixed with a blue egg layer. :)
Yes, it is a SILKIE. Silkies are very unique in that they have hair like feathers, black skin, black bones, and black meat! They are very different. They also make extremely good mama's. :)

Very nice!:)

How many duck eggs can a silkie hatch?
It depends on what kind/size the duck eggs. Generally speaking about three. :)
Mine would never be able to co-raise a clutch like that. They are too competitive and they try to steal each other's eggs
These two raised several hatches together. :)
Cindy Lou Willson Adorable. Silkies are a truly unique and amazing breed.
I agree wholeheartedly!
I had no idea two hens would even co-nest.
nice
Thank you! :)

those are alien hens, they speak alien language. looks like chickens form a star trek movie.
orange11squares sorry to be the party pooper but they are just silkies
That's adorable. Did the hens adopt them?
do you mist duck eggs under a chicken?please answer!
If I'm hatching them under a hen - NO. If in an incubator - YES. Good luck! I hope you get a great hatch!!
NICE VID :)
😍😍😍😍😍
LOL! I'm glad you enjoyed. :)
Do you know if i can get a broody duck to raise chickens?
Farmer Nate I think so but the reason of why people use broody hens to raise ducks is cause ducks are not as reliable on raising their young.
Farmer Nate I don't know. I"ve not tried it the other way around. I've hatched many ducks under chickens but never chickens under ducks.
Farmer Nate You can, but you'll have a problem when the baby mama goes swimming (in case you have a big pond or a river near by). Female turkey can raise ducks and chickens as well.
yes. but i wouldn't reccome it. she'll go to the water. They'll try to follow and most likely drown.
The duck will go into the water and the baby chicks will follow and drown, so don't do it.
I have a non-bearded white silkie bantam a bearded white silkie bantam and a bearded grey silkie bantam and all 3 of them are broody right now but I don’t have room for more babies ☹️☹️😞
Awwww!!!! That's a shame! Could you let them hatch some eggs and then sell the chicks? Maybe keep one or two (or three)? :)
Cindy Lou Willson I wish I could but I would get so attached it would be hard to give them away :3
I've never heard of hens sharing a batch before :) what happens when they get older, do the hens keep sharing them or do they split up?
Leave the mother alone! Sheesh
Bill Dejean agree.
What the exact name of this hen
She is a bearded white Silkie.
my freind has ducklings and there not so little any more there the size of pigeons now

one question that we will never know. how the fuck do they see with all of that..??

ummmmmmmm why are the hens siting on the ducks they are not there mother if they are there mother then they won't sit on them
Many chicken hens will raise chicks that are not their own - be they ducks, geese, turkeys, guineas, etc. They are awesome mothers!
no será abusar mucho de las gallinas ponerles huevos de patitos
They are Costly as hell 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Yes, the quality ones can be pricey. :/
Silkies lay blue eggs
