      @@DiamondBackProject Joker laughs when he feels he's winning, or has the upper hand. He may be falling to his death, but he told Batman during the interrogation that he would have to break his One Rule. We all know Batman's One Rule is no killing. He will break all the other laws to bring people to justice, but he wants to help prove the justice system can be fixed, so he won't kill the criminals. Joker was believing that with his death he would win, proving that in the end he even tore down Batman. This is why the first line he says after being pulled up is, "You truly are...incorruptible." He is acknowledging that even in this, despite everything he had done, he hadn't forced Batman to break his One Rule.

      @@matthewskaggs8447 it would've hit harder if Batman hadn't done that exact thing during the "but I don't have to save you" bit of Begins. I love Batman Begins, but it definitely made a mistake in that logic. On the other hand, Joker didn't know any of that.

    I think Joker doesn't like describing himself as a "man with a plan" or a schemer, because plans and schemes are born from a desire to achieve something specific. There's always an ultimate goal to every plan and scheme, but in the case of Joker's "plans", there is none. His actions are closer to a performance meant to bewilder his "audience", so a better word would be "choreography", or "script".

      Another parallel drawn is Joker burning cash literally while Bruce / Wayne Enterprises’ Applied Science Division is said by Coleman Reece to be figuratively “burning through cash.”
      That’s the scene when Reese takes his blackmail threat to Fox. He says “What are you building for him now? A rocket ship?” 😂😂. Nope. It’s the cell phone thing.
      All that burning of cash shows neither values money except for it to be used as a tool to achieve their goals. Bruce tells Fox to type in his name after they have used the sonar cell phone thing to find Joker and when he does, it destroys it - so he burned through money to build it but then he destroyed it - burning the money twice. 👀😂.
      Bruce could live without his billions just fine and it’s clear Joker doesn’t value money. They’re both about something more.
      It’s just really cool that the movie is laden with all the duality and parallel motifs. It also brings to mind that I’ve always heard it said that Batman and Joker are two sides of the same coin.
      Also, I always thought it was well written and well played that Bruce really does have to cross the line morally with the cell phone project and also has to lie to Fox initially as well. When Fox asks about it, he tells him it’s a military contract and he’s playing it close to the chest.
      The truth of course is that Bruce knows Lucius will not approve of what he’s doing and Bruce doesn’t have time for dissent - so he goes with deceit. ☺️
      Just top notch writing and overall use of craft on multiple levels in this movie.
      One last note: I agree with everything you pointed out as parallels etc. I don’t think you were reaching on anything on that score. Here’s another tidbit: I read that Nolan intended the title The Dark Knight to refer to both Batman and Harvey Dent. Like the poster mentioned, - Dent was Gotham’s White Knight but then because of his negative character arc, he became a fallen hero and a dark knight instead.
      Always thought it was an interesting juxtaposition because Bruce was always more of a white knight than Harvey even before they both suffered the same loss of Rachel and Harvey went all homicidal maniac while Bruce went so far as to even save Joker’s life.

  • @zizimugen4470

    Lamborghini’s are Italian and most of them are named after Bulls.
    A famous bull in Italy had his life spared by a matador for the courage
    the bull had shown in the arena, this bull’s name was Murciélago.
    Which is “Bat” in Spanish
    So technically the car is named after a bull, again as most Lamborghinis are.

On the contrary, I was left speechless when I seen TDK back in theatres on its worldwide release date, and do think it top 89' in many ways. However, Batman 89' stuck with me ever since I first saw it at 5 yrs old on VHS. It was like my intro to movies in general n has never left me since.
      I will always love it. Otherwise TDK is my 10 fav of all time. Though it may be in that spot, that certainly is far from me calling it sumthing like a 'not-as-good' type of film.
      Another kinda example is the fact that Pearl is my 2nd fav film yet "The Exorcist" is my fav horror film, but is actually number 6 for in general.

    The clown masks the Joker and his goons wear could also be a reference to the film “The Killing” by Stanley Kubrick. In a heist scene the robbers are seen wearing clown masks very similar to those worn in the Dark Knight.
    Also:
    Ledger originally came up with the Joker’s makeup while self isolating in a motel in preparation for the film. He used cheap drug store makeup, and Nolan liked the look. He then had on set makeup artists replicate the makeup while on set.

    When I first saw the movie a thousand years ago I went online trying to figure out which of the Jokers scar stories was the real one (I was young and dumb) but someone pointed out that they're all wrong and if he had had the opportunity to tell the story to more people they would have continued to be different and all false because he is, after all, The Joker

  • @barfymann362
    @barfymann362 3 года назад +5

    One of the things often brought up about the Hospital scene is that the Joker had his hand on the hammer which would prevent the shot from being fired incase Harvey pulled the trigger. I spoke to my instructor about this at great length, and he explained that the tremendous amount of force required to hold the hammer down whilst the trigger is being pulled would result in a shot being fired - however I've had several keyboard warriors debate this, so I hope someday some one just tests it out and put the theory to rest.

    • @heavyspoilers
      @heavyspoilers  3 года назад +1

      Loooooool. Yeah someone should 🤣🤣🤣 does the trigger not rely on the spring of the hammer though so the hammer going forward also moves the trigger forward?

    • @barfymann362
      @barfymann362 3 года назад +2

      @@heavyspoilers The Trigger being pulled would release the hammer, however the way my instructor explained it was that the sheer recoil could easily break the finger if the hammer was being held down. It's one of those things that looks extremely cool and adds another layer of, "Hey look the Joker gives the illusion of choice". However, I think it was not intended to be that way, I think the Joker was pulling the hammer not holding it down - he was letting Harvey know, "Here you go, gun's ready to fire". Like you would rack the slide of a modern pistol to chamber a round. Cheers, bud. Thank you for the video! Stay safe.

    • @blakew5672
      @blakew5672 3 года назад +3

      Your instructor is VERY wrong. I assume he’s saying holding the hammer DOWN would cause it to put enough pressure on the cartridges primer to cause the round to fire? Two problems with this, the hammer is BACK in the scene. At this point it’s very easy to hold it back. The trigger only releases it forward at this point as the hammer is under spring tension. The trigger doesn’t impart a mechanical advantage on the trigger in this position. Holding the hammer back would prevent the gun from firing.
      The second problem, the one I think your instructor is hinting at, used to be an actual problem. Originally revolvers could be accidentally fired if the hammer was left down on a loaded chamber. Suddenly jolting the gun, or putting pressure on the lowered hammer would put enough force on the cartridges primer the round could fire. Modern revolvers have either a hammer block safety or a transfer bar that keeps a lowered hammer from making contact with the firing pin and preventing such things from happening. This is has been true since shortly after WW2, especially given the gun he’s holding is (as the video point out) a Smith&Wesson. That problem is the reason truly old revolvers were always carrying with only five rounds loaded so the hammer could be left down over an empty chamber.

      @@blakew5672 Let's go and test this theory with a live round. I'll be Harvey Dent and you play the Joker holding the hammer down as I try and pull the trigger.

  • @keithmoonshine
    @keithmoonshine 3 года назад +1

    You touch on it but I think it's worth it's own point: Batman breaks his "one rule" at the end of this film when he kills Two-Face. Throughout the whole film the Joker is trying to get Batman to break his rule and kill him, through what amounts to terrorism. In the face of all that, Batman refuses. But when it comes to Harvey Dent trying to enact some twisted justice by killing an innocent boy, Batman kills him. He does it because he has to, despite the entire film refusing to do so. At the end he has become the villain he always feared, but he embraces it (being the true hero).

    I’ve always wondered though, when the Joker gets picked up in the beginning of the movie, that he has the mask in his hand, wouldn’t that mean he’s standing there with his joker face already painted on? Wouldn’t the guys picking him up know he’s the joker already?

    20:59 the joker isn't holding back the hammer of the gun, he just places his fingers over it for a second or two. You can even see this in the clip here, but it's even more evident in the full scene. It's only in a still that it looks like he has the hammer held back (although not in the still here).
    That's a swing and a miss on that one!

    When joker and his goons are in the van discussing the split you can see Joker insert the magazine into his pistol and attempt to chamber a round, only for the slide to stay locked back until he hits the release. That means the magazine he just inserted is empty. I'm surprised nobody caught that lol

    The hospital blowing up scene....Heath actually improvised specifically at the moment it stopped and him pushing the button on the remote multiple times as there happened to be a delay behind the scenes while setting off all the pyrotechnics due to they only had 1 shot and 1 go with the scene and wanted to make sure he would stay in character even if it didn't work out, that way they could digitally finish off the scene in post production....thankfully he did stay in character and they ending up setting off all the rest of the pyrotechnics giving us that great scene and him actually getting a jump scare when they started back up again.
