It worked for me on 2nd attempt. Tip: 1. Do not go overboard in removing silicone which may end up damaging the last chip and led. I kept at least 2mm gap between the led chip and the silicone cut point. You may notice that this is not enough for connector to close. so I slowly removed tiny threads of silicone until it was enough for connector to close 2. make sure the connector RGBW pins are correctly connected (blue wire on top in this case) 3. The soldered edge needs to go under the pin 4. Press to get a tight connection. 5. Refresh length in settings tab of the Govee app
@sidzone1 were you able to cut the m1 strips at lengths less than 1.5tt? Someone on Reddit said they’ve successfully cut them after each individual strip and reconnected. It’s quite limiting to only be able to cut them at solder points in the configuration that I’m working on.
Hi ,thanks for your quick response. since researching more , I see the multi coloured backing of the light strip is just in the advertisement pictures , probably for affect. I am going to purchase the m1 lights so hopefully all will be ok, again thanks for your respone
Just bought TWO of the Govee RGBIC 100ft light strips model number H618F (thinking I had ordered the M1 version, after watching a RUclips video about them) I was disappointed that the stand is only 30 LEDs per meter, unlike the 60 LEDs featured on the M1. But aside from that, I'm considering keeping them, BUT they'll really only serve my purpose IF THEY CAN BE SPLICED. These are said to not be cuttable, but I figured with the smart minds here experimenting, it is likely possible... I would use the entire strips, but just want to jump sections around the room where I don't want the lighting. Anyone have first-hand knowledge of these particularly lights, as it relates to splitting?
Hey, Trying to do the same thing, I'm having trouble finding 12mm 4 pin connectors that ship to my country, is there anything special about the ones you order? or does any 12mm 4pin would fit?
As you said most connectors are for 10mm strips. But Gameovershop made them to my request for 12mm. You can contact them and say you came because this video and they will make a good price for you ✌️
Now I have watched almost all of your videos and they are super helpful. One major question I have is can you wire a manual on/off switch and still use the esp8266? @@MIMCKMedia
Do you know if there are any LED strip connectors with white wires? I’m putting this against a white wall and white wires would be best! I live in the US

Thanks. I have a question about the extensions. Let's say I have two M1 5m strips. Can I cut off 2m from the tail of one 5m strip and use it as extension on the other 5m strips to get 7m strip (e.g. by soldering)? Will the controller recognize 7m properly? Or I have to buy two 1m extensions? Thanks in advance!
@@MIMCKMedia Thanks. I asked because 1m extensions are sold separately. As far as I understand all 1m parts (from 2m, 5m strip or as 1m extension) are the same except the end points (male / female connector or just cut off as you did). In an official video of Govee (just search for "How to cut Govee M1 RGBIC LED strip lights?" in google) it is said that you can only cut off max. 2m from a 5m strip, not more.. This and the product "LED Strip Light M1 Extension" confused me about the 1m parts so I thought that the 1m parts in a 5m strip are somehow not identical...
@@MIMCKMedia can you cut them shorter than the solder point though? That’s the question. Someone on Reddit said you can cut them after every chip (every 6 LEDs), but I haven’t tried it. I’m also hearing that the app will not refresh the strip’s length after doing this. It’s very limiting to be restricted to cutting every 1.5 linear feet.
don´t know what exactly you mean. You want two stripes of 2,5m ? If so you can just buy the 5M cut it in half and connect them, you can control each segment via the app
@@MIMCKMedia @jorgecoronado2365 I think he is asking whether it possible to control two 2,5m strips with the same light effect at the same time (like that one is the clone of the other). Either the app should produce same effect for two different parts of a strip or the app should be able to synchronize two different strips. In the second case 2 separated drivers are needed.
Hi I have been considering buying these lights but do need to cut into 5 x1 m lengths as you have done in your video.I have contacted Govee and they say its not possible for the m1 strip to be cut in this way .In your video I have noticed the backing of the strip is white and all m1 strips I have seen have a multicoloured backing strip. So is the strip your physically cutting and resoldering actually the m1 strip? .I would really like to purchase the m1 strip , but would to hate to spend a lot of cash and ruin the lights by cutting them . Great vid , cheers
What do you mean by multi colored backing? I've bought 2 govee m1 and they look identical like in this video. Do you mean the product photos in the advertisement? They colored it to show that the strip can glow in different colors. It's actually complete white
Hey, I tried the same but i am only able to connect four 0,5m strips... every strip after that won't work... I already tried to use other wires and other strips. I even replaced the 4rd and 5th strip just to check wether they are the problem. But they are not... Why could it be, that i can only connect 4 strips?
The maker of that song molested his gf and got a real bad reputation in our country now haha. But anyway good that I watched, I wanted to put it on the 40 cm Billy from Ikea but 50cm is too wide for just the top. Weird that they are not selling short strip pieces of different sizes with extender cables. I am guessing the market is huge for such a product.
Are there wire connectors that are clear/transparent? I want to run it to some wall art and a clear insulation would make wires harder to see as they run on wall
Best video I have seen in my life. Very helpful, thank you!

They make an in-line wago connector now that would be a bit more tidy, if you’re ever looking to splice in the future
Can you post a link? I can't find it
yes do you have a link??
Hello, great video! After going through that process, can the Govee application be used normally?
Yes
How do you remove the clear thick rubber coating that covers all the leds and the connectors?
You will see it at 1:41 I also added timestamp chapters for every other step
