My bullet journal is basically a bunch of lists in a notebook. No calligraphy, no stamps, no art. Just a pen, a green text marker and occasionally a ruler. And I love this thing and use it every day. Why complicate things.

Me too. I just keep daily tasks lists. I find the basic concepts behind bullet journaling are great for me to keep on task, on schedule and keep track of work projects. It has helped me so much with keeping on task and organized.

Love this! When I first started my bullet journal, I included weather tracking and budget tracking and would get so overwhelmed having to maintain it. I realized that I didn't care about the past weather and I budget online so I stopped using those pages. I also realized that I don't like trackers so I don't have any in my bujo. I love my bujo and use it multiple times a day.

I'm right with you. I was the same with a bunch of exercise or activity trackers... Those never got filled out.

I'm hooked on your channel 💜 I'm not even sure what I do could even be considered bujo but idc 😅 it's just for me. Simplicity for myself and not comparing to others are the biggest ones for me. I aim for daily even if it's just a line or two. Having fun pens and inks to use (hello fountain pen rabbit hole) made all the difference for me. Now I can't wait to write!

I think we are moving into a DIY planner / journal space more and more over time. I talked about this on the @plannerpalspodcast recently. It just needs to work for youself and if it is easy to call it a Bullet Journal - go for it.

Lol When I’m trying not to compare with other people’s work, and then Mark shows the pages that he thinks are the “messiest” and they are actually well organised and beautiful 😭😂 can’t help myself

You are absolutely right: everybody has to find out for themselves what works for them and what not. I love watching the videos where people create their pages with watercolours or thelike - but for me: minimalism is the key👍🏻 my bullet journal is basically a calendar with weeklies and every weekly has a big section for notes, that is what works perfectly for me. When I feel like it, I add a little doodle or use some colours in my weekly, but most of the time it is black and white and that is ok. But: I love creating calendars/bulletjournal pages for my friends and family - and this is where I get very creative with nice drawings and thelike and this totally relaxes me. But as calming as it is for me, it is quite time-consuming, so I take my time and make theses calendars as Xmas gifts or birthday gifts and I love it. But for me, personally, a minimalistic calendar is totally enough. 🎉

Finding what works the best is the best. It just takes some experimenting to make it happen.

Great video Mark! I have learned I'm more of a planner person. I don't love drawing out monthlies or weekly spreads but I like having them to reference.
I am in an Archer and Olive dated planner and it has some dot grid plages for personalization. Next year i might do their undated planner that already has blank monthly calendars\weeklies in there along with dot grid pages.
Never forget people can start slowly, with a bullet journal dedicated to your hobbies or health or kids or pets. The thought of putting so much different information all together and organizing it definitely feels overwhelming.
As a scrapbooker\memory keeper I also enjoy back filling my planner with what actually happened even if it didn't go according to plan.

I think experimentation is the way to go. Work in something for a while and you will see what you love and dont.

I keep buying Notebooks, but tbh I haven't used more than maybe 10% of them. Reason is that I'm a perfectionist and I'm too scared to mess them up. I'm super critical with my handwriting and I want it to look good. I thought maybe it's because I spent a lot of money on them, but even the 1€ ones I bought I don't use.
I hope one day I'll get over that fear haha 😅

We have to shake you of the perfectionist habit. You will have so much more fun when you let yourself go a little bit. If anything, try to use pencil before pen and then you can make sure that you reduce your mistakes. They still happen, but you can always try to keep them down :-)

Love this! My first bujo was a pen and a moleskine b6+. My second one was an A5 archer and oive, where I added a grey tombow and a ruler, and eventually a white gel pen. It was SO effective!

Absolutely! One size does NOT fit all, that is why you see so many different planners and different BuJo styles on youtube! Like you said, what do you need your bullet journal to do for you? Go from there and don't be afraid to drop something the next month if it didn't do anything for you. I would say don't try any fancy decorative stuff until you've worked in it for a few months. Concentrate on the productivity aspects first.

Great video Mark. I've stopped putting habit trackers in mine as it was stressing me out when I couldn't/didn't use them, also I was thinking of doing a 5 year one line a day journal so incorporated that in mine in January and this month and I've barely filled it in, so know that a whole journal for it would be a waste of time (despite the FOMO of not having one!!)

I got the same feeling from not filling them out. It was counter productive.

I've definitely made most of those mistakes at some point over the years 🤣
Now I'm quite happy with my A6 Leuchtturm that lasts me a full year! I definitely felt inadequate for a while that I wasn't filling multiple A5 books every year but I just don't need to write that much.
