The Rough Country low profile hard tonneau cover (Part #47420600) is an amazing product for the 2016-2020 Tacomas and probably the best practical tonneau/topper option out there for your 3rd Generation Taco. If you like the idea of keeping the full use of your bed but also having a lockable compartment when you need it, then this is for you.
This tonneau was chosen because it is super easy to install on this 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road long bed (Install is the same on the short bed), super easy to remove so you can still haul dirtbikes/motorcycles/tall items in the bed, and when it is installed you have a ton of secure and dry lockable bed/"trunk" space for snowboards/skis, camping equipment, luggage, groceries, etc. The fit and finish is great and everything works perfectly. No complaints!!
The big downside of this tonneau cover is that it takes over the factory accessory rail completely so you lose two tie downs. Its not the end of the world because you can add more tie downs to your 3rd Gen.

I got one that was damaged. Contacted them and sent a couple pictures through email. I had a new one in 2 days. Customer service was great.
Great video review. Funny, it appears petty mentioning "gets dirty easy", but that IS actually a valid concern for many people, so it makes sense to include it. You don't talk to much to simply be heard, you get to the Pros and Cons quickly and much appreciated. Thanks!
Ran across your video the day after ordering the Rough Country and you made some valid pros /cons but for my use, it still is the one I'm sticking with... Can't wait! Thanks for making this video!
Wohooo!
You welcome 🙏🏻
Glad I’m able to be of service.
awesome vid man i was considering this bed cover but now i might explore other options. I appreciate your info!
Excellent review, very descriptive, and it gives clear pro's and con's about the things that always concern actual users. Thank you!
Thank you Nathan! 🙌
Very good video! I enjoyed your pros n cons. I just ordered one for my 2023 Jeep Gladiator. Looking forward to the install. Thank you again for your sharing thoughts!
Wow I'm also glad I seen your video before I just went out and got this cover. I need my full bed because it's only 5 foot anyway. Thanks again
AWESOME!!!
So happy to hear 🔥
Thank you for stopping by 🙏🏻
Nicely done, Erick. This is one of the covers I'm considering for my Tundra CrewMax. Your Pros and Cons were super helpful. Thank you!
I’m glad I can help! 🙏🏻
Thank you for watching
Did you end up getting this one ? I'm also looking for same one for my crewmax.
@@Athleticramirez how is the bed cover ? Any issues?
Great video and information man thank you 🤙
Was definitely thinking about this one but I might have to see what else is out there
AWESOME!!! So happy I was able to help.
Excellent review! Thank you for making this video, it is the best review I have seen on this cover. I have been considering to get this cover, but could not find as much info as I could with other covers. The pros and cons you listed have given me a lot to think about. Great info and to the point. Good job!
Wow! Thank you so much for watching!!
I truly appreciate the positive feedback.
This was a lengthy process to document but I did my best to illustrate the overall product in a timely manner.
Good luck in finding the perfect bed cover for your truck 🙏🏻
@@Athleticramirez one question dose the middle panel also lock in thanks
@@Athleticramirez hey. What is the link to buy this cover. I like very much

Good stuff. Thanks for the info.
A really honest review! Thanks!
Thank you for watching!! 🙏🏻
I appreciate you sharing a positive comment.
Nice video bruv! Thank you for creating.
You welcome! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
This may sound stupid, but I wonder if you put some type of clear coat epoxy on the back to fill in the gaps, then ceramic coat the epoxy once it's set. Should keep the dust off much better if it's a concern for some people. But that's quite a bit of work just to keep a Tonneau cover clean haha.
Great job on the video! I'm glad I stumbled across it before I bought one. I was one click away but living in Hawaii, shipping isn't cheap.... Trying other options before I pull the trigger.
Keep 'em coming! nicely done!
Thanks for your honest review. Like others, i am looking for a cover for soon to come Tacoma LB. 👍
Awesome!!
No problem 🙏🏻
Glad this helped you make a decision wether to buy it or not.
Actually, Undercover Tonneau designed and manufactures this cover for Rough Country. I know this because Rough Country told me when I needed to buy some different hardware when I got a new truck that already had bed rails installed in it. I had to get the parts from Undercover who just asked me for the serial number. Like yourself, I really like this cover, but I do wish I could fold up the last panel. Nice video!
Thank you for the video! I am researching tonneau covers for my Tacoma and as much as I like this one that folding rubber between the panels is not going to cut it. When it's not cold here it's hot and constantly folding rubber like that is not going to last.
Great review. Thanks!
You sold me out on it. 🤔 pretty good for the price 👌🏾 👍🏾 I seen other ones way overpriced but this one caught my eyes.
Thinking about getting this cover but rubber trim has me on the fence 🤔.....Good price point tho...
Great job. I was thinking that's not really a tri-fold and then you pointed it out in the cons. I do have to say that Rough Country offers comparable products at a great price. Looks and almost does everything the other tri-folds do for less. Will work fine for people who are not constantly using their bed. I was thinking about getting this but found a Undercover cover for only $30 more than this, so I couldn't pass that up.
Thank you for stopping by and sharing a positive feedback! 🙏🏻
Glad to hear you found something for your truck, that’s a great deal 🔥
So I’ve had several trucks and several different fold up tonneau covers and I think it’s a good cover. Most of the tri folds definitely do not fold the last panel, closest to the window, and most that open up all the way are right around $1,000 or more. Taking it off is easy and it stores right in the bed if you want.
Taking it off is a breeze and takes 2 minutes, or just a minute longer than my previous tonneaus.
This is a secure tonneau and offers mpg benefits, security of carrying stuff in the bed as well as protecting against tailgate theft - which is surprisingly common in Tacoma’s!
I considered a paragon cover which is amazing but it’s right around a grand and considering I got my rough country for about 1/2 price I can’t even compare.
The criticism of the last fold not folding up is a valid criticism but you also have to consider that vast majority of other trifold covers are the same, a hard one piece tonneau only goes up, and a topper is a pain in the ass to remove and reinstall properly. Tri fold refers to the 3 panels.
really good video man, not being able to haul furniture can be a good thing as in "hey man, you think you can help me move a refrigerator in your new truck?" " oh sorry buddy I would love to but my new bed cover is permanently installed (wink wink) and it just wont fit!“
Lmao
Great review
Thank you!
More coming soon.
Good reviews thanks
Thank you for watching!
Thanks so much this video. It is very helpful for me to make a decision not to go with this cover, the few cons that you had or some things that would really bother me as well.
Awesome!!
I’m glad this was useful to the point of saving $$$ and headaches 🙏🏻
Love that shirt bro!
Thank you!
I need to get a new one because I now have a 2021 4Runner TRD OFF-ROAD
I like the TACO SHIRT!
Thanks!!
Good info. I thought all fold-ups opened all the way to the cab. I am considering a roll-up in which you lose that one foot in the front permanently. Time to rethink.
They have this rubber conditioning spray ,it's used for motor homes, but it's for all rubber get some of that spray it an rub it in ,I do all the rubber on my tundra an it works great that will keep that rubber pliable. It's called 3-1 RV uv shield, rubber seal conditioner, in burnt orange can .
Thank you very much for your recommendation! 🙏🏻
phew.. Glad I saw this video before ordering, thanks for posting,
Awesome!
Glad I saved you a headache lol
Good lookin out! I was getting ready to buy this for my Silverado but I'll be going with a different model now.
@@TheFelter15 sweet!!! Glad I was able to help 🙏🏻
Only thing i am concern with is the plastic
I got mine a few months ago. It came WITHOUT any mounting hardware.... just the cover. Contacted Rough Country ( a month later ) and informed them that the unit was missing items. They apologized and sent me a whole new unit.
( I wasn't able to open and start to install until a month after receiving the package due to an injury )
Glad i found your video! Am looking to buy for my 2019 f150 and there are so many options out there. Debating going with their newest version which does fold up for full bed access.
Wanting to get that one, you end up buying?
@@strizzy239 yes i did. I love it
Thanks for your video. I dropped off my PU for a small dent to be repaired. They did a great job on the actual repair but forgot to re-clamp my Rough Country tri-fold so when I hit the turnpike off it went. They were so sorry for the mistake that they bought me the new Rough Country flush-mount and I'm not so sure I like it. The older style sat on top, had a clamp on both sides but no exposed rubber on it. All the gaskets are under the hardtop. Should I install this one I fear the gaskets will curl, leak and dry up. What's your thoughts? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your video. It was part of the reason I'm in doubts of the new style.
Of course this video pops up right after I bought one
Is that good or bad? 😂
I just bought and installed on my 2022 tundra and my solution to the cons are 1. Use my trailer for any bigger hauls 2. Gorilla glue for any seals that may rise. 3. Well..I wash my truck once a week. So hopefully I can enjoy this really nice tonneau cover..😂
I think the “bi-fold” just did it for me. Was looking at a bakflip cover that might be it
Good Video brotha! My friend is selling me is rough country for $200! Going on a 2021 Tacoma so I hope there isn't anything different.
Wohoo! That’s such a sweet deal 💯
Thank you very much for your positive feedback, truly appreciate it 🙏🏻
Hope this answered some questions you had.
I have the same cover but for my ford f150. I am having trouble finding a truck rack that's compatible with this cover. I got the yakima overhaul HD but was not compatible any ideas?
Look at the Lomax Tonneau Bed Cover, it's also a low profile and can be removed in seconds... but it only lays flat and not vertical for the last panel.
Thank you for the recommendation! 🙏🏻
It’s also 400 dollars more?
@@cgwjy122 You are correct! Just saw the price.
@@cgwjy122 That may be true, but there may be some discounts available if you look around... regardless, what I like about mine is there's no raised rubber strapping to catch dust and dirt, and it can be removed in seconds.
@@ronmurphy4234 would be great if able to find discount
Not sure why but the one I have is leaking. They sent out a replacement and it still leaking.
I installed one in my ver y and after rains I got water in one corner inside close to the right tail lights
Mine came with supporting brackets that you can put up or down on each side so you can hold the cover up to utilize the rest of the bed, it’s secure even at highway speeds
Interesting!
I never got that on the original packaging, let me look Into that.
Thanks for the info!!
Due to the way this cover is installed, there is no way to hold the last section up. There are 4 screw knobs that hold that section to the frame rails and it’s not possible to lift this section up.
Jeremiah, is yours a rough country?I'm looking for one that the front panel also folds up to use the whole bed. Thanks!
Completely different cover, not rough country.
I purchased this cover 5 months ago. My only concern is that rubber trim/gasket that runs along the sides, seems to be cracking slightly at the folds. I will be keeping an eye on it. Great review!!
add some protection for those rubber trim pieces, rubber tends to dry and crack over time. Giving it protection will prolong its life
@@VictorMartinez-dv9cf thanks, I will do that!
@@johncoyne4263 you could get dry silicone spray, apply on a rag, microfiber preferably and just put a light coating on it ,
@@VictorMartinez-dv9cf thanks, I actually have some dry silicone spray, I will try it tomorrow. Thanks again
I use Chemical Guys VRP and used it in my previous tonneau cover. Apply it once a month to the side and a little goes a long way and it will help prevent the cracking. I love VRP and it gives a nice shine too!
can you run this through an automated carwash without risk of damage?
Easy to open with wire coat hanger. stick it in above bed, grab the string, pull and open it easily
Maybe a bit of quick wax would make it stay cleaner for you, the sides of your truck are quicker to shed dirt as well with a light coat of wax
Why can't the rails have the hardware installed from the factory?
Right when u said drill 2 hole...gameover! No good! Thanks you for the video tho...
LOL!
Same… those 2 holes hurt till this day 🤣
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
Does it hold a good amount of weight on top of it? Can you sit on it? Can it hold any weight on top of it?
Yes!
I was 200lb at the time and I sat on top of it with no problem.
Is the cover loud when you drive on the highway?
Amazing question!
The cover makes no sound when you are driving. It’s precisely made and cut with no gaps that can hinder noise.
Left after seeing that shirt
Will it fold up against the window? Looks like only 2 of the panels will actually fold?
Correct, only 2 panels fold.
It doesn’t have a stick to hold it up against the window which is a huge bummer.
In the middle of the video I demonstrate how it folds and the panels can be locked in place.
@@Athleticramirez thanks for getting back to me. I definitely need one that allows 100% bed access. Might have to get a Bak MX4.
@@usmcgrunt02 That will definitely be your best bet!

That shirt tho...🌮🌮🌮

Loosing that much space is not a concern at all when is that easy to take off and put on
True, personal preference at that point.
It’s a hassle for those that need to do it often but for my case it doesn’t bother me because I’d take it out 1 time a month or every 2 months.
The tri fold refers to the 3 pieces of the cover. Every cover with 3 pieces is called a trifold... also I have never seen a bed cover without rubber seals so thats pretty standard.
I learned something new today!
Thank you this valuable piece of Information, makes a ton of sense.
Not a truck guy at all but I’m slowly diving into the automotive industry!
How much was it
I paid $660 for mine.
Just bought one it’s nice
I paid the same as well $600 + tax
Mr T did you lose weight?
Yes I did! 💪🏻
@@Athleticramirez just kidding thanks for the video
It only costed $500 for a local shop to install mine. I'd recommend getting a professional to install it so there are no leaks.
800 bucks and that trim is lifting? Idk, don't seem right!
RIGHT!?!? Bugs me till this day....
@@Athleticramirez I'm thinking I might save the money and just get a 300 dollar Gator cover for mom 17 taco.
