regarding dancing on despite the timing change, if i'm not familiar with the song and don't feel the change coming ahead of time, sometimes i'll keep dancing on the wrong timing because it feels like a decent amount of songs change the timing repeatedly after a very short time, so i don't want to restart the count, only to have to not see another time change coming a few seconds later, and then have to restart it all over again. if i know the song, or if the time changes are predictable for a song i don't know, i'll usually try to switch them at the right times. or if the song doesn't feel like the type where there will be time changes every 10 seconds, i'll switch the time to reset with the music if i missed the time change at first.
also some follows definitely DONT notice the time changes, and if you keep changing and resetting the count because the music does so, you can see some of them getting annoyed or frustrated even if its the right thing to do. which makes me second guess even more if i should change the times or not, even if it is uncomfortable to dance on the 5 or the 6 (vs on 1 or 2). so while dancing off time is not fun for me either, that's the overly complicated thought process going on in my head when i miss a time change and don't reset right away.

You know , I think that's fair enough. I also sometimes dance to these those that keep on changing, and I get a bit annoyed 😒. I think as long as you understand it and do it deliberately, then I'm cool with it 😎.

Great pointers for leaders... with regards to your second point, maybe you can show leaders how to use the Transition Step (Hot Toe?) to adjust to a change in timing in the music... at least that is what my dance tutor teachers us in class.

Hi Rasa, Thanks for five great tips 👍.
You also have another video about how to be a better leader. Tip number one in that video is: “it’s all about technique”, but you didn’t tell us any technique. 🤷‍♂️
Tip number one here is:“Don’t push and pull your follower, there are tricks and techniques to get them to follow. Go and ask your teacher“🤷‍♂️ Leaders and followers learn similar things in lessons, footwork, timing, sequences of steps, and because we are being taught, both partners know the steps they are going to do.
During social dancing though, this all changes. The leader has to indicate his moves to a follower who doesn’t know what is coming next.
I understand it is partly foot and hand position, but there is more to it, and it is extremely important.
I’m not sure why it is not focused on far more.
I found not knowing specifically how to lead caused so much tension that I couldn’t even do three basic steps in a row.🥴
I realised if I can’t do a basic on the dance floor, I will never learn to social dance, if I will never dance, it is pointless continuing lessons, so I gave it up.
But I recognise that is just my reaction to it, and that most leaders will pick these things up... somehow. 🤷‍♂️
    Xxx

#2 is the exact opposite problem I have in my scene.
And I was scolded for 15 minutes by an untrained dancer the other night because another leader is better because he uses thumbs and fingers and lightly twists her wrists.

    • @DanceWithRasa

On the point of shines, the leader should not outshine the follower either. :)

    • @DanceWithRasa
      @DanceWithRasa  4 года назад

Well i think that is a matter of opinion, so i think as long as when you do shines its not a battle its still a dance with a partner its all good 😊
