Sooo I've just finished watching part 1 (ignoring the disclaimer for heart conditioned ones especially cuz I am way too curious) and my wild guess is that the father may have done all these experiments (in which he kind of mentioned "medicine" when he experimented on the girl screaming for her mama) Long story short : could his purpose be to create the medicine which could've saved his wife from dying but since its too late he tries to re create her as a doll? Cuz Maria clearly is a successful living-doll experiment + he might use maria later for his own purposes so he just kind of acts so lovey dovey with her??
