    “And what they’re still know for, to this day, is making amazing sensors” - Except Sony makes them (well, with custom specifications from Fuji but still).

      Bingo…! Maybe Fuji should follow Apple’s lead as they did with the ‘M’ processors, go their own way, break their reliance on Intel. Fuji developing their own sensors and processors could help them in the one area that is killing them right now…AF.

    And I thought 4.4 to 7 seconds of write time (Depending on resolution) on my Sony FD95 Mavica was long considering it has to actually spin a physical drive. XD ...Does kinda make sense though when you factor in that I'm saving 320kb JPEGs.
    I understand that cycle time making you shoot more deliberately thing, though. Plus when you're only getting 4 shots at 1600x1200, or 8 with the doubled compression, before you have to swap the disk, it really does feel kinda filmy to me.

    I’ve used and love that thing to death. The color is awesome, it takes Nikon AF-S cameras. And I still wish they make nikon’ mount cameras instead of doing their own mounts.

    I used this camera professionally every day back in the year 2001 parallel with the Canon 1D (which worked swimmingly and who's images would hold up today), and I can honestly claim that this camera wasn't usable back then, so if it's usable now it's a miracle and probably a leap of faith which makes you stumble into the abyss. It might be nostalgia for a time where one wasn't participating, but I am not nostalgic about this one, though my nostalgia would be based on real experience back in the days. I told my boss (I was a studio manager) to get rid of it and start shooting his Mamiya RZ 6x7 camera again, but he insisted on this garbage, and lost his reputation and career in the long run. The only thing I like about it is that it can shoot TIFF, which I wish all cameras could do now, for people who doesn't need to tweak but still likes clean images. It is the most horrible viewfinder ever. Save your money. Be nostalgic about something of value, like the early Foveon cameras or Polaroid or something.

      Sure, it's not usable in a professional context - but for fun? It's great!

    To this day, I still own and use two Fuji S5 Pro digital SLR cameras (Fuji modified Nikon D200).

  • @noenken
    @noenken 3 дня назад +2

    Couple things: First of all, please try to get your hands on a Fuji S5 Pro. Not only does it shoot RAW, it has a dynamic range that was unmatched until many years later full frame cameras could catch it. It's based on the D200 from Nikon and a much more mature product.
    2. You say that CCDs are not that fast and that is true. I'm just curious if you know that there are CCD cameras that can flash sync at speeds any CMOS before the A9III could only dream about.
    And lastly while we're on the topic of cameras that are also Nikons (no, this will not help against your GAS either) ... Have you heard of the Kodak DCS? ;-)
    Great video!

    😁 I kinda like the non-square pixel on super ccd. I think they tried to replicate the film look from out of the sensor which Fuji engineers got that right, but I'm no expert, just saying.✌

    I got an Olympus camedia from 1999. It has a smart media card too, but as the only option. And I can tell you these cards are a pain in the butt to work with. I basically have to use data recovery software every time I want to get my picture off the camera. But hey, that's just part of the fun, isn't it💀

    I used this for people and social about twice month for five years. Always JPEG to the client no computer processing, no complaints. Next was the Finepix S3 Pro, then their S5 Pro, with the X10 for backup. All JPEG and no complaints.

    people always talking about color with CCD sensor but yeah i agree with you there are much more talk about more organic grain patterns of images. if you satisfied with fuji, I highly recommend to try with early CCD olympus DSLRs like E1, E300/500 and E400 too.

    So there's a crazy backstory about Fujifilm lagging behind a bit. There's a documentary on RUclips about it. When ...ish hit the fan in film, Kodak went boots up and Fuji said "F it, mate. We know chemistry. Let's sell medical stuff and chemical stuff." They laid off most of their film division, and pivoted, made enough bank to stay alive, and THEN got back into it."
    YOUR story gives me a really interesting piece that wasn't covered at all in that documentary, so I feel like I learned so much more, kind of in that spot where Fuji was trying to figure itself out, right before they picked up Instax, and then went nuts.

    • @huntercreatesthings
      @huntercreatesthings  4 дня назад +1

      I'll have to look that up! They seem hell bent on digital only these days, which is a shame - Pro400H was one of my favourite film stocks

    I so very much disagree about the supposed fuji x-system colors excellence that it puzzles me to hear that common place from your mouth. Fuji's reds, greens and blues are simply terrible and consistently require adjustements to barely have them look natural (I totally gave up on landscape pictures with my fuji, yes it's that bad in my opinion)...
