Perfect binding! Thank you for the video. Can I ask what iron you use? It seems to have great steam. Does it stay on all the time or does it auto shut off?
I was looking for a video like this! Wanted to see the other side of the zig zag stitch. Now realizing I just need to take the plunge and get a coverstitch machine. Thank you!!
Thank you Diana! As always super informative and cute projects. I recently bought a serger but still need sewing machine for binding and hemming. I use an Ecoflex thread for stitching but still figuring out what stitch I want. Not crazy about zig zag but you gave other alternatives. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. Great teaching as always! I made the curved hem tank a couple weeks ago, but it did not turn out as cute as yours! And it was too big lol. I dunno why I think I’m bigger than I am 🤣
Hi there. You don't mention if this pretty green binding is cut on the bias. I'm not sure that a stretch material binding needs to be cut on the bias. Does it? Thanks
I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now, but I will respond in order to help others with that question. No, stretch fabric does not need to be cut on the bias as it has stretch built in. Wovens without stretch need bands cut on the bias (bias binding) because there’s a bit of stretch and it allows for sewing around curves.
You can create a much less bulky join at the center back of your neckband by using your sewing machine. I find the serger creates way too much bulk in the seam allowance and therefore a lump in the neckband.
Thank you so much for your tutorials! I have been looking for a cover stitch machine but they seem to be in high demand right now. This is exactly what I was stuck on and this video was perfect! I have been trying to get my twin needle to look good but still a lot of tunneling. I think I can just accept it now, even though it is far from perfect, which is hard for me to do. Thanks for your encouraging attitude, I am just gonna "go for it"! ❤
Hi Diana! I have that serger and I would like to know the setting you use for knit fabric. I am new sewing knit fabrics. I really appreciate your help. God Bless you!
Just made this the other week, didn't look at the instructions all the way to the end and did the neck and sleeves as The non binding way and wondered why they were so small, oops 🙃 once again a great helpful video thanks
Can this method of applying binding work for all knit patterns, I really like this application better then the standard way , where you have to fold the binding in half before you pin , I think this would be easier, especially now that I was gifted a cover stitch , thank you 😊
I usually don’t change my lightning bolt but I would use a scrap piece of fabric and try different lengths and widths to figure out which one works best for the type of fabric you are using. A very tight stitch might eat the fabric.
I have removed the knit binding, stretched it while ironing, and resewn it onto a neckline that I’ve cut lower. I don’t like the traditional crew neck, so lower the neckline.
I always dread doing the neck band on my stretch fabrics, but this has really helped me, think I’ll take another look at my stitches and maybe try a different one, I usually use the lightening stitch, not really very keen on that one though. Now I want (need) a cover stitch machine🤔. Thank you for this tutorial, just came at the right time for me. Fabulous.

Perfect binding! Thank you for the video. Can I ask what iron you use? It seems to have great steam. Does it stay on all the time or does it auto shut off?
Thank you for explaining the difference in stitches. New to sewing so it has helped me a lot. 🌷☺
You make the Coverstitch machine look so easy. I need to get more comfortable with mine. Thanks for sharing. Great video as always.

I was looking for a video like this! Wanted to see the other side of the zig zag stitch. Now realizing I just need to take the plunge and get a coverstitch machine. Thank you!!
Thank you! You are so positive and encouraging.
Thank you! I do it the same way, how do you sew a foldover elastic? I bought it yesterday but never worked with it.
Thank you Diana! As always super informative and cute projects. I recently bought a serger but still need sewing machine for binding and hemming. I use an Ecoflex thread for stitching but still figuring out what stitch I want. Not crazy about zig zag but you gave other alternatives. Thank you.
Wonderful and simple instructions as always!!!!😍💯 Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad you love ❤️ it!
I used my triple stitch to do my neckband. I do use my coverstitch as well.
You make it look so easy!
Thanks for demonstrating this. Not as difficult as I thought. 😊
Thank you for this video. Great teaching as always! I made the curved hem tank a couple weeks ago, but it did not turn out as cute as yours! And it was too big lol. I dunno why I think I’m bigger than I am 🤣
Live the pineapple blouse!’ So cute on you!!

Thanks again for this tutorial.
I’ve been dreading trying this. Thanks for the video

Re-watching all your band videos as I am trying to make some tee shirts today.
Have fun, You got this!
Can you please tell us what fabric you used and where you purchased it? It looks lovely.
Thank you this is ver easy and I definitely do it on the cover stitch
Your instruction is precise. Sew helpful
Another great video! I haven't made anything in a while. I need to get back to it.
Hi Diana! I have that serger and I would like to know the setting you use for knit fabric. I am new sewing knit fabrics. I really appreciate your help. God Bless you!
Thank you so much for your video .But my question what kind of coverstitch machine you have.Is it brother please?
Your videos are always helpful. Is a cover stitch only for knits?
This was so helpful! You're the best 🤗
You are amazing! I think you sooooo much! This really helps when I can see things done.
I'm going to make this top this weekend
Thank you. That was super informative. I still feel like I need a coverstitch though😄
Great video! Now I need to shop for a cover stitch machine!
Just made this the other week, didn't look at the instructions all the way to the end and did the neck and sleeves as The non binding way and wondered why they were so small, oops 🙃 once again a great helpful video thanks
You always rocking the videos, and patterns.
Lovely colour
I do really need a cover stitch machine!
Your videos are awesome and full of info! Thanks for all you do 🎖
Very helpful thank you. I just started using my coverstitch machine so these tutorials are great.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have this pattern ready to cut out tonight!
Thanks for the tip.
I probably missed it on your videos, what is your seam allowance for the neck, arm, etc., bands?
Most patterns are 1/4” but some are 3/8”. The pattern tutorials state that for each pattern.
Thanks for sharing, the thank looks great on you!
Thank you
What brand iron do you use, please? It steams so well.
I have a Hamilton Beach Durathon. ❤️
Your tutorials are so helpful, thank you
So helpful! Thank you Again 😊
How wide do you cut the neckband? Do you usually cut the length of the band 85% of the neck measurement?
Can you do a video on the coverstitch 3550
Another great tutorial - thank the you for making them
Merci j'aime vraiment ces tutoriels tellemtn un bon prof
Can this method of applying binding work for all knit patterns, I really like this application better then the standard way , where you have to fold the binding in half before you pin , I think this would be easier, especially now that I was gifted a cover stitch , thank you 😊
yes!!
How long do you cut your binding to do the neck line and arm holes
I used the binding that comes with the pattern but I would say depending on fabric I would do somewhere between 85%-90%
Great tutorial!! Thank you!
Thank you!! This helps so much!
You're welcome!
Love your patterns and help!!
Another good lesson, thank you!
Question? What if my sleeves were long do I still need to use various stitches on the sleeve
Great tips!
Gah! I want a cover stitch! Great video!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing
Very helpful thank you
Happy it helped!😊
Thank you!!
Thank you. Love you hints and tips.take the scary out of sewing 👍☆
what shirt are you wearing in this video? I love it!
Thank you for the tutorial ❤️👚
Thanks for the tutorial, I used to sew both sides leaving the seam exposed and stitching on top so it was still visible. 😂
You’re welcome
If I'm using my regular machine, Baby Lock, what SIZE do I set my stitches to? If I use the lightning bolt, what length and width? thanks!!
I usually don’t change my lightning bolt but I would use a scrap piece of fabric and try different lengths and widths to figure out which one works best for the type of fabric you are using. A very tight stitch might eat the fabric.
Thanks!
If you lengthen the last stitch more it should help avoid tunnelling, like with twin needles.
Is that how you stitch all your stretch knit bindings?
Very nice 😊
Cool.. thanks!
Can you change neckbands on t shirts and nit dresses to binding instead?
I have removed the knit binding, stretched it while ironing, and resewn it onto a neckline that I’ve cut lower. I don’t like the traditional crew neck, so lower the neckline.
I keep forgetting that I have this pattern and I really want to make it!!!
What coverstitch machine are you using in this video please?
I use a brother Pacesetter ❤️
Do you measure the neckline/armcyce with a percentage like we do for bands?
I prefer binding to be 90% of the opening.
Would 90% also apply to ribbing?
No, we go a lot less. More like 70-75%.
I really want a coverstitch machine!!!
I need a coverstitch 🤩
The more I watch you the more I feel I need a coverstitch 😆
This makes me really want a coverstitch but at least it doesn’t seem so hard with a sewing machine.
What size width did you use on the neck binding? Was it 1 ½"?
2” is a great size for neck binding.
Thanks.
How wide is your neck binding?
Your twitching looks good. Wish mine look that good.
I just got a cover stitch machine and I am having difficulty at the finish of the seam getting the fabric released and securing the stitching.
me too, my 'practice piece' works but when I get on the 'real one' I struggle.
How wide is your neckband strip ?
What's the difference between binding and band?
I always dread doing the neck band on my stretch fabrics, but this has really helped me, think I’ll take another look at my stitches and maybe try a different one, I usually use the lightening stitch, not really very keen on that one though. Now I want (need) a cover stitch machine🤔. Thank you for this tutorial, just came at the right time for me. Fabulous.
