    2007 is a JK, totally different gear box. In fact 2003-2006 use a different gear box too. Basically the same process, but you can access the lines on the box by simply removing the sway bar cover. As for bleeding, you can simply jack the front end up and turn the wheels all the way left and right WITHOUT starting the engine... this helps prevent fluid starvation if you don't keep close eye on the level while bleeding.

    Thanks for posting this, very helpful. I also replaced my hoses, so I installed them before installing the gear.

    I have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn and the steering has been an issue for a while now. It only has a 2" lift, 32" KO2's with 22lb alloy baja rims. Not even 70lbs total with the tire and rim. I have the Currectlync tie rod and drag link, Fox steering stabilizer and M.O.R.E steering box brace. I know these Mercedes gearboxes are not as good as the Saginaws but would it fail with this modest set up? I had the gearbox tightened between an 1/8 - 1/2 turn about a year ago. It helped but went off road recently and now the steering is starting to get a bit sloppy and wonky again. It has never leaked any oil that I know of, I'm the second owner.

    The new input shaft flat spot doesn't align exactly with the position of the old one. Do I turn the new input shaft slightly? What will be the impact on the pitman arm alignment?

    But can’t find a single video on how to fix the backup light switch on side of transmission. Impossible to get to or unclip the plug.

    When the Pittman arm puller starts bending get the torch it doesn't have to glow red just start smoking a little to get it give up but this is extreme cases. Like a last resort.

    I i stalled mine on my 00 tj and i tried your bleeding method and it does not work. I also got a vacuum bleeder kit and i am getting air out but it seems like its air locked. Tonight i am working on it again and going to break the lines and try to get the air out and try again. Any suggestions on what to look for

    • @allmycarsisbroke
      @allmycarsisbroke 7 месяцев назад

      Your comment is super old at this point but for anyone else who comes along and reads this thread--you're supposed to fill up the PS reservoir to the fill line, then turn the steering wheel lock to lock 10-15 times BEFORE starting the engine, and then top off the reservoir to the fill line again, THEN start the engine and lock to lock another 5-10 times or so, then check fluid again and make sure there are no bubbles.

      Quinten Murray you need power tool to remove the Pitman arm and Pitman arm puller. The rest of the job can all be done with hand tools.

    nooo. everyone knows you break the lines loose before anything. as someone who works on rusty jeeps all the time I would know. and secondly if you don't unbolt the steering shaft first you wull hate yourself later. and if you cant hold the gearbox with your muscles maybe you should have someone else do it.

    • @dennismilligan6000
      @dennismilligan6000 Год назад +2

      Hey big shot. The whole idea of lowering the steering gearbox is to get a wrench on the lines. 2000 TJ this is necessary. Disconnecrt the steering shaft not necessary.
