As a British person living in Korea and married to a Korean, I found this video interesting.
    *A few pointers*
4:52 Ramen - It’s interesting to see how colours communicate differently in different countries. I was surprised to see Kyde say the red ramen pot looked a little less scary than the other and hoped it would be not spicey as I see the opposite. In Korea, the redder a pot the hotter the ramen you’ve got. I salute you for finishing the broths btw, I never do that.
13:00 Construction site - No idea what that is. If I was to hazard a guess, it would be where the solo recycling and trash collectors you sometimes see pulling carts sell their collected materials?
14:00 Street parasol - Your guess was correct. They’ll unfold on very sunny days for shade and when it rains.
18:45 Towels - Lots of small towels are used over a single large towel. Whenever I do see a bath sheet or larger towels in Korea, my wife or family always use it as a floor mat and not on their bodies.
18:50 “Clothes machine” - Ahhh, the vocabulary of an expat. I am the same, I always forget English words nowadays.
19:06 Tap water - Tap water is perfectly safe in Korea, however, most Koreans choose not to drink it and choose filtered water or bottled water instead. I believe this is to do with the rapid development of Korea and the stigmas and habits around tap water not changing long after tap water was made safe.
19:40 Bathrooms - Almost all bathrooms in Korea are wet rooms. There are usually rubber sandals that you wear inside the bathroom that stop your feet getting wet when you are using the sink and toilet. Also, there is often a mat on the outside of the bathroom door to dry your feet on. Koreans don’t tend to wear socks indoors as most floors are heated, so there is no risk to getting wet socks in the bathroom. Also, I was surprised to hear that you saw a shower like that in UK? I don’t think I have ever seen a wet room in the UK. The lack of counter space and the poorly designed toilet control panel is not a Korean thing but rather specific to that hotel.
34:20 Breakfast - You’re correct. That is Odeng (Fish cake)
38:45 Yogurt lady - They’re everywhere in Korea. Originally only sold Probiotic drinks but now sell a load of stuff. I think they were originally associated with Yakult Korea, not sure if they still are.
39:00 Pain - Slow escalators are the bane of my life
I am happy to give you guys a tour of wherever in Koreea, whenever you are next here.
Long time fan of the channel! Thanks for the vid

"Bathrooms - Almost all bathrooms in Korea are wet rooms."
Do you mean in hotels/public buildings? Or apartments/houses too?
Oh, man, heated floors! I've only ever experienced that once in Chicago. It didn't even occur to me that such a thing existed! A few years ago I spent the night in the basement apartment of some friends. I never wanted to leave. I live in a basement apartment, but no heated floors. Even though I always wear socks and/or slippers, it's still chilly in winter. Having not frozen feet (especially in the bathroom) was glorious!

    • @SpacePorridge
      @SpacePorridge Год назад +1

@@Yesica1993 I have never been in a Korean apartment that wasn't floor heated and had a wet room as a bathroom. Most of the guest houses and hotels also have wet rooms. If say maybe 50% of public bathrooms are wet rooms.
Oddly, when I first arrived in Korea, heated floors made me nauseous. I got used to it eventually though.

I've seen vids of solo travelers doing it and it's stressful to me just watching. What if you're lost or need emergency help and NOBODY understand you and you can't understand anyone? Or even signs? Makes me freak out a bit just thinking about it.

ah hey. I was just in Seoul a couple weeks ago and was similarly interested in the crosswalk structures. The ones in Seoul didn't have the electronics, but some of them have little seats. I think you're right that the primary function is to get people out of the rain.
Have you been to Saigon? My wife and I had the same issue with hotel bathrooms there. The big trend was to have the bathroom just be a glass box inside the room to give the feeling of more space. It seriously took over an hour of scouring online to find a room where you couldn't see directly in. Some of the bathrooms were right by the bed... and unfrosted.

A newish thing in Korean convenience stores is you can cook the regular ramen in these disposable bowls, in the store. The machine next to where you got the hot water cooks the ramen in a few minutes.

Even if it does, so what? Some things are objectively better or worse in different countries. That's just an observable fact about the world.
