Thank you all so much for checking out our lil game! This has been so exciting ^^
Thanks for the game, Mark made me discover it, I explored it a lot and have still more to discover but one ending made me smile and get teary eyes. It also gave me more ideas about other separations and love stories in a way. Very inspiring.
Hi devs!! I love StP. It's such a beautiful and meaningful game; you can really see the love that went into it. Thank you for working on the Pristine cut too
It's easy to see how much love and care has been poured into this game. I have yet to play through all the routes but it's truly an incredible experience. Thank you for making my favorite game of 2023 ❤
Bought the game back in January and it’s super fun to see Mark playing it now. Can’t wait for the Pristine Cut!

It is really cool how this game gives the illusion of being unfathomably large but every path converges and differences in the dialogue by completing runs in different orders are only minor changes. It's a really neat lesson in game design. I was initially put off as I assumed it was just any old choose your own adventure and the greyscale visuals were frankly a little boring but this is an interesting game for sure.
I hope he goes through EVERY possible path after he completes the game.

This game leaves me speechless with every path, I'd definitely love to try it out!
"OH, DON'T WORRY I WASN'T MOURNING HER" is so funny hahaha
These voice actors deserve a lot of praise. They somehow with only two of them managed to do different enough line reads to make each variant feel like completely different people while staying close enough to sell that they're all just versions of the same two people. That is some serious talent and skilled directing
If you like the male voice, it's Jonathan Sims, the voice of the podcast The Magnus Institute which he wrote. I only started it a few weeks ago, so it was very surprising to find his voice here!
if you like the female voice (Nichole Goodnight), I recommend The NoSleep Podcast. She features regularly on the show. And I too was super surprised to hear her voice. Thought I was going crazy until I saw the credits.
@@slackolantern I expanded this comment to recommend the same thing. There's two podcast, Magnus Archives, which is finished, and Magnus Protocol, currently on Season 1.It's an excellent horror podcast. I hope you are enjoying, Slackolantern!
Also Jonny has such a talent for scathing sarcasm, it's simply delightful
Fun fact, they also did a Dev-stream where the devs played through some of the routes and gave insight into the games process. In the meantime, they had the dialogue turned off, and The VAs reenacted the lines playing in the Stream, live. Even the times where the voices bicker amongst themselves.
@@Caffeinated_Firefly Yeah, I'm trying to catch up so I can listen to the Magnus Protocol as it's released.

if they all sound like Jonathan Sims, they can bicker all they want
How didn't I recognize Jonny Sims voice?!
I think I'm just so use to it, that my brain just accepted it without question
I kind of love that idea.
Sounds weird but I love the “Several voices in one head with several perspectives/personalities that can’t agree.” dynamic.
They all sounds like Jon, but one sounds like Jon imitating Elias.
I had the worst nightmare after listening to TMA season 2's finale so I decided to take a break... and then I clicked the first video and heard Johnathan Sims' voice and nearly shit myself. He's following me 😭
I'll admit, the "Voice of Will" joke made me laugh more than I should.
I guess Will Smith is the King Kai to Mark’s Goku.
Finally someone made a comment about it😂
Yep, gold! XD
Lol, I didn't get the joke at first
@47:08 for my future reference
I haven't seen any comments about this yet, so i guess ill mention it. Marks first video of this a couple days ago did SO WELL it brought a ton of new people to buy the game. The creators discounted it today and even said "if you still can't afford it, pirate it. If you end up enjoying it, buy it when you can as a thank you." Which i think says so much about the creators.
Edit: since this comment got so much response to it, if you're looking for another video on this game I highly recommend checking out juicys (from the boys) videos he did on it. His actual channel name is bigjuicy.
I literally bought the game because of mark
If it was on PlayStation I’d buy it
@@seasplitter5987 The game is getting a PlayStation 5 release in the fall, and with it, a new update with an array of new content will be added to the game! Even if you watch this playthrough all the way, once the port drops it'll still be worth the buy!!
They are also working on scarlet hollow, which is a horror visual novel game with a shit ton of choices and paths (and romance options!?!). in my opinion, it's even more impressive than this game.

Paranoid is the 3rd best voice
Well, Contrarian is always good for a laugh. He's so mischievous. I enjoyed having him around more than most voices in my playthrough.
I deeply appreciate the very British voice here because truly the sarcastic demeaning flavor of "I don't have time for you and your THINKING" hits me with extra giggles coming from it.
Also, noticing how your previous choices define the voice that accompanies you. This game fascinates me.
all of the voices and the narrator are voiced by one guy - jonathan sims, i personally love his perfomance in this game A LOT like a lot lot

The way I read this game is that its about relationships. Each path shows different endings to a toxic relationship, she always becomes a reflection of your actions. In this one, rather than confronting the issues and leaving the relationship or overcoming them together, they locked the door, avoiding the problem and kept the issues inside to fester until the partner eventually breaks them until they are nothing but enablers, watching her destroy the world around you, powerless to do anything.
Unless you end it before it gets started
@@quattuorvigintupletritrigi8357 id say that represents abandoning the relationship at the first sign of conflicts instead of confronting the issues, only for you to keep running across the same problem again and again.
It's more about the perspectives gained during said relationships. And not all of them are toxic.
Light spoilers:
Plus she doesn't destroy the world in this one, and she doesn't want to, she just wants to spread fear and terror wherever she goes. After all, the world needs fear. Anyway, the world pretty much ends itself and even she has no idea what's going on before she's taken.
@@reubensalter8125 that makes sense, but I need to ask, what are the non toxic endings?
And why would she want to spread fear and terror after leaving? Why is she fear?
@@cielbie8251 I mean she already explained it herself: the world does need fear. And she didn't choose to become this, we did; when we locked her away and began to perceive her as a monster. She didn't want to be like this, hence "I am what I am."
As the entity explains at the end "She seeks companionship, but the only thing she knows is how to hurt." This is best exemplified during Moment of Clarity where she projects her hurt and despair onto you, simply because she wants you to understand how she feels. Then there's also when you rescue her and the narrator says "...the moment feels gentle, tender even."
Anyway, the non-toxic relationships are Adversary, Prisoner, Thorn eventually and Wild depending on your choices.
I love the princess SO much. How she changes based on the mcs perception of her. You decide to not bring the blade (implying you dont think shes dangerous) then she seems meek and afraid. Bring the blade and she has a dominating presence. Incredible writing
You should probably add a spoiler warning to the beginning of your comment, I’m not sure if he’s figured that bit out yet
@@ghostboy4115it was kind of obvious
@@ghostboy4115this is something you should know about by your first playthrough of the game by engaging in dialogue with the princess avatar at the end of the route. Ironically, since Mark HASN'T asked her much of anything, he has the more "authentic" experience of the hero, who ALSO doesn't know any of that because he has his memory reset every new route
I absolutely do NOT like her because of what you wrote. Seems really immature to just have your personality set as "people think I'm cruel therefore I will be cruel".
@@zanderlucioperca i mean, maybe if i saw he as a person. But i think shes more of a concept or an entity. The princess is seemingly unaware of the choices the user makes (cant see the mc hold a knife as theyre walking down or anything). Shes a part of the literal fabric of that universe. I think "the stranger" shows it well too if he ever meets her
The devs came out earlier today and said they really heavily encourage people to play their game blind before watching a playthrough - going so far as to even suggest pirating it if you cannot afford it and paying later. So if this game appears to be something you'd enjoy playing for yourself, I highly suggest picking it up. It's on sale on steam right now for the next day or so for about $14.
I would, but my first exposure to this was RTGame's entire playthrough, so it's probably a little late.
Still, I might pick it up when the free DLC (mentioned in another comment thread) drops.
But I've already watched 2 parts from mark and I'm loving it
Actually did this when I saw Mark was playing it. It's an incredible experience to say the least. Highly recommend playing it yourself, especially when going in completely blind. Now I'm watching Mark to see what choices he makes
I plan to get it when it comes on Switch. It's a wonderful game.
@@Rockacroc1928 All the routes are pretty fun, especially the endings.
The Moment of clarity is oddly, satisfying. I love the idea of collecting 2+ voices to the point you basically have a whole entourage
There's another route where that happens but you get to see it happening.
Princess: If I want to see you gone, all I have to do is break your concentration!
Mark, with ADHD, like a fool: Ha! I'd like to see you try!
Pffft- Mark is so real for that. Either you concentrate on everything with no interruption, or there is zero concentration to begin with.
Really love how Paranoid is functioning like adrenaline. Its there to try and keep you alive, even when shit is wack and you may crash once its worn off.
He's such an MVP. I love the trope of a character who's scared shitless, but enduring immense fear in order to help, and help survive.
@@GrimmBones It even funnier when Hero takes over just so he can talk
30:00 made me cry a little, since I know the metaphor of this game.
the voice of the paranoid was saving them, because those who are the most anxious are usually the best under pressure. everyday they are practicing breathing and mindfulness to function, and putting it in a real life or death situation,, they can end up heroes and survivors. I’m just really proud of all of those living on the wire.
.... i never thought of that. Wow
What
What's the metaphor, for all of our uneducated (me)?
@@spam-el3ee there is the story, of Yin and Yang essentially which is the actual “plot”
But the metaphor is vulnerability in relationships. Every time you enter an Arc with a new princess, that is a new relationship/how it could have gone. there’s a preconceived notion that ending it, letting her go, killing her, all of that could be “wrong”
but there’s not wrong choices in figuring out how to navigate a relationship, especially with so little knowledge given to you.
each decision will shape the princess and help her grow and learn so that she may be her best self when she meets her best partner. just as we are doing the same with the new voices.
so don’t be afraid to get too anxious, to accidentally hurt someone you love, to smother, to idealize, to misunderstand, to want to protect yourself at the expense of any other. we are human and complex. and what makes us good, is the process. is the learning.
that’s the long and short of it all, there’s a lot of good video essays on the true meaning that explain it way better than me
(that’s why the choices go away, it’s implying you’re learning from the decisions you’ve made)
Mark getting the Contrarian and instantly not liking him is peak comedy lmao, he knows it's gonna be like arguing with himself
19:15 so your telling me you barricaded a door that swings open the other way and the funniest part is that she went along with it by banging on it instead of pulling
underrated comment right there
She banged on it to break the lock, in breaking the lock and perhaps therefor the frame, the door could swing both ways.
there's actually a bit where The Narrator acknowledges that lol
Hahaha I totally missed that 😅
@@lordriceiboop588 Wait, where? 😅
Why is this the only game where Mark ACTUALLY listens and does what he's supposed to?
It is fascinating. The narrator was already shown to be the one whose willing to bend the truth if you just listen to him and just kill the princess. Where he traps you in the cabin for eternity, thinking it a reward. Yet, Mark is still intent on listening and believing him, murdering or trapping someone because he was told to. Maybe it's just all in hindsight of the story I guess?
That's what a TRUE contrarian would do. Defy expectations by cooperating when everyone would normally rebel.
maybe due to the narration and style of choice
Maybe because he also made a similar story and quote: "you little shits never listened or followed anything so I'm gonna do what the narrator says" (he said this in his stanley parable ultra delux edition play through)
@@insaneyoohoo Part of me thinks that's just Mark fucking around and being curious to be honest. It's a VN, there's not much else you can do besides the story anyway.
I think Mark just put into words what I’ve vaguely felt is the reason this game is such a masterpiece of a visual novel. It manages to make almost every path feel not just worthwhile, but SPECIAL. He thinks he’s somehow “stumbling into edge cases,” but odds are he’d feel that way no matter which Princess he meets. This is a game BUILT of edge cases, with not a single “normal” path, and that’s awesome
Just so you know Mark, that path you thought was a dead end IS actually a path that you can go through! Ironically the only answer that ends that route is the path that says [Stay there and do nothing].
fair warning a dialog option will be greyed out if you have no further new options, meaning if it's not greyed out there's more new things after that or after that
OMFG TY

I like how at the end there is mostly empty space and almost no cabin. It really does makes it look as if the world is vanishing everytime the Princess lives... as if her existence is actually causing the end of the world.
Part 2 a day after Part 1?! Oh boy it’s good to have Mark back
How is Chica?
I am so envyous of people who have such an enchanting way of thought and expressing those thoughts with such ease, such a deep way of thinking and understanding. This game just feels so surreal and that's how you know the developers have given their all. Truly an expierence that can't match anything else.
The princess: "Youre standing there gasping like a fish."
My brain: The fish flops miserably across the floor.
the fool jingles miserably across the floor.
@@icarusissleepy Exactly XD
I absolutely adore Slay the Princess. It's one of my favorite visual styled games that come out recently. I hope Mark is able to see the "Thorn" Princess, getting to her is a bit tricky, but I think that one vessel is worth it. On another note, if Mark meets the "Tower"... oh boy.
Rose? I remember some players being confused on what flowers were there. They're poppies (look at the petals). Someone asked the devs and confirmed that they are, indeed, poppies. They're pretty symbolic.
@@oceanicGrimalkin easy mistake, since the Princess herself is actually, "The Thorn", which is also symbolic, but also also not something Poppies have.
Thanks for the corrections! The original post has been edited to reflect. I think I defaulted to calling her the rose due to the thorns and the romantic inclined achievement.
@@nicklien222 Thank you as well. Poppies also suit her pretty well considering what she is.
@@xanadu6784 I tried being vague on purpose on the comment section even on names of Princesses for a reason, but fair. Although, poppies with thorns do exist.
Little reminder that Slay the princess is gonna have stuff added with Slay the Princess The Pristine Cut.
Im so glad it's getting more attention
I started watching markiplier when I was 13...I graduated yesterday and it feels so surreal to look back at his channel and realize just how much I grew up on his videos. Thank you Markiplier for what you do and helping me through the toughest parts of my life ❤
congratulations! :D
Graduated from highschool or college / university? I've been watching mark since I was 6 or 7, and two days ago I finished Grade 10.
@@koolaid33 high school, ain't at university yet lol
Always feels weird seeing Americans say graduate when talking about high school lol
@@db5094 I'm not American lol
Holy shit, I forgot how abandoning the princess makes her so terrifying
How am I the first person to notice the edit at 17:52?
There is a small person Lixian has edited in behind the leg of the table
"enemies to lovers" I love that, not because it does or doesn't happen but. because of the breadth of the game, does it matter what you or the princess's roles are to each other. Love it
I really hope mark gets the Thorn, she is the best princess and everyone will love that storyline,Specially the romance'd thorn
@@kevinhenrique4256 that's most peoples fav (me included ofc) just didn't want to spoil in any way
@@kevinhenrique4256 I got the Thorn for my very last vessel, my very first playthrough and it felt like such a fitting end to everything it was so beautiful
Dang, I never realized that this route existed. It feels more like a final route since you have all the voices with you at once and aren't forced into The Long Quiet after a couple of chapters meaning you have more than just a few voices (and it also feels final because the voices aren't afraid of the mirror anymore).
I wonder how it will affect the ending...
Like y'know... the *actual* ending of the game.
There is another route that also features all voices.
Just gotta say this; Wether intentional or not, I feel like this is a perfect representation of living with Dissociative Identity Disorder!
I've been diagnosed with DID for almost two years and the way this game manages to portray how it feels to live as a system is insanely accurate!! I have no idea if the game was supposed to represent DID, neither do I claim it does.
But the point is that for the first time ever; me and other systems we know feel SEEN! Finally! A game we can point at and say "This! This is how it feels!"
So thank you, dear developers, for either intentionally or unintentionelly making a game that brings some accurate light into DID and making us all feel seen!!! We all love you!! ❤
Oh my god. This looks terrible, im so sorry❤🙁
I, um, was reading through the comments to see if anyone else had these thoughts. I don't have DID, but I know people who do and have described what it's like to me. It so clearly fits a lot of the descriptions, it makes me wonder (so far, anyway) if the game doesn't take place in a mind scape fully.
by this do you mean the different voices talking and overlapping each other while one is in the "drivers seat " trying to make decisions? /gen
I was searching for a comment about this- I don't have concrete confirmation that I have DID or OSDD- but I do experience something pretty much exactly like the voices, the narrator, and the player
!!! Also as one with DID, I had this exact thought too! Even with assuming very likely that it wasn't an intentional representation of some of our community's experience with having DID, it still feels phenomenal being able to connect to a ~something~ out in the world! (And especially given how well loved this particular "something" is, unlike a certain movie I shan't name and will eternally loathe the existence of...)
Mark: *immediately questions a characters existence*
Also Mark: YOU RIGHT
I love that the creator promoted Mark's playthrough but also encouraged people to pirate the game if they don't have money to buy it 😂
I love Mark so much, i've been following him since he started playing FNAF back then. He's a great dude, and has helped so much with his videos, including me.
I hope he knows how proud and grateful we all are of him, we love you Mark
This game is so fascinating. I also find it interesting that different people seem to have an almost visceral reaction to certain voices, just an immediate "Oh, I don't like you..." response that differs wildly.
Ngl this game kinda scares me. Purely for self reflection, as someone with 9 different MH problems as well as ADHD and aspergers. Living with all those voices, watching it is just so normal for me that I never once thought "must be so stressful having all those voices"
28:35 is giving me some major
All of his co-workers were gone, what could it mean?
Stanley decided he would check out the meeting room, maybe he missed a memo.
So walking into the room Stanley walked through the left door.
mark says so even in the first episode - "this is giving me some real Stanley Parable vibes..."
Slay the Princess is such a beautiful game. Honestly, I'd love it if Mark does a couple playthroughs to see most of the options, although I assume he'll probably just do the one. We may get lucky though and he might do a second one when The Pristine Cut comes out.
Pristine cut?
@@EmotionalSupportChaosDemon it is a free content update that will add 35% more content including new chapters and extensions to existing ones
@@EmotionalSupportChaosDemon Free DLC that expands a few chapter 2's into more chapter 3's, and refines most of the existing chapter 3's.
@@EmotionalSupportChaosDemon I don't think my comment went through last time sorry if it did tho the pristine cut is a free content update that will add 35% more content including new chapters and extensions to existing ones
Mark needs to ge the thorn in this playthrough
It feels to me like Mark is slowly building the princess by giving her "voices", like the ones he gets in different routes. By making her go through specific situations, he builds a personnality from broken shards. I wonder if she'll eventually get a name from all of this.
I think that you control the body, the voice of the hero is your conciousness, and the narrator is your eyes. And you gain different larts of you consciousness when you make different choices.
Not quite but an interesting theory
The narrator being the eyes and not being able to see a mirror?
I do indeed love the lart gaining…
Mark speaks with the Narrator the way he speaks with Bob or Wade 😂
HE REALLY DOES THOUGH!!!!! 😆
I hope he treats this like The Stanley Parable and tries to find as many possible paths instead of just getting one ending.
I just realized every voice is a path that you can choose. so either the voice of the hero becomes a different voice each time or the character becomes a voice after dying.
YES!! SLAY THE PRINCESS!!! I love this game, Jonathan Sims does such a good job voice acting. I will preach about Slay the Princess and The Magnus Archives till the day I die
literally so real jonathan sims is such a talented va its insane !!!!

Hi
hello good sir
No views.
Hundred percent agree @crushld
Same, joined on no views, and one minute
I hope Mark finds his way to the...POWERFUL versions of the princess. I'm sure he would enjoy that lmfaooo
i always loved how voice of the stubborn still is on his Sisyphus grindset and didn't loose his sanity like everybody else
I love Mark's playthrough I've never seen someone play and be so resistant to the idea of freeing the princess.

Constants and variables…
i feel like this entity thing you're collecting "perspectives" for is like the most creative way to fuel a completionist mindset
it cuts off stuff you've already done and makes your goal just to see all the stuff you haven't and fill out the game
then you'll finally let the being reach its growth
its so creative i love it
Well, some of the stuff. It's worth doing one playthrough then going back and doing some other stuff in another playthrough and so on.
I knew this was going to be uploaded, loved the last one, and cannot wait to explore more of the other paths.
Lmao tf ?@UTubeTrollPoliceNWO
The fact that you got this ending in only the second part is insane. Love the playthrough, seeing you enjoy my favorite game warms my heart
Eventually figured out the goal is to reach chapter 3 each time. The entity will say the vessel is not complete, or "she has served her purpose." Only the innocent princess can't be advanced yet, and the witch is tricky.
Update this fall, looking forward to that yall'! 🙂
Hmm. D'you think that the new finale-ending it's adding will be exclusive to an all-Chapter 3 run? On reflection, that would be a bit more limiting than this game normally does things, but possible.
I mean, you can get a chapter 3 out of the damsel. And you can get two different chapter 3s from the witch
@@shadowking3986 Actually you can get most routes to stop at chapter 2, while one just stops there anyway.
Also the entity never says the vessel "is not complete", just "we will make her whole". Other quotes includes "she doesn't need to be protected any longer", "she has finally found her way home", "we will provide her with the grown she has yearned for"
And you can get a chapter 3 from the Damsel, which is the Grey, but they're adding another one from her for the update, and the Witch has two: The Thorn is tricky but worth it; the Wild is more straightforward and also worth it.
The Moment of Clarity one of the my favourite paths tbh, i like the most when you approach the mirror and all of the voices arent scared of it, they are ready, like after a long, long adventure...
