    One more very specific idea, because of the bee. In the Jewish holidays Rosh Ha'shana, which is like Jewish new years, there's a custom of eating slices of apple dipped in honey. It could be a gorgeous honey dish for that! You can write Shana Tova ve'metuka (which means, have a good and sweet year) on it.

    This one would’ve been so cool with some of your gold glaze on there! A gilded bee or border bit here or there! I would probably use this as a jewelry plate to store my rings when I wash my hands / wash dishes / knead bread

    For the suicide bees in your bucket, you can add a little ramp on the side (it can just be a stick) so they have something to stand on to get out.

    • @ShelbySherritt

      Perfect idea, except my puppies are very cheeky and no matter what I put in the bucket they get it out to chew 😅

    • @Vocalinds

      @@ShelbySherritt Maybe you could superglue something along the inside wall of the bucket at an angle so that the bees can have a ramp but the puppies can't get it out?

    EDIT: I have now removed the part of the VO. This is not to hide my accountability on this issue but rather to prevent triggering more individuals from the comment made about loving HP in this episode. Hello my loves, I need to address something in this weeks VO that I did not fully reflect on or have an extensive knowledge in. This week I mention Harry Potter and my love for this series stating ‘you are lying to yourself if you don’t like Harry Potter’.
    At the time of making this comment I was unaware of the extensive and problematic behaviour of the author of the books. I have personally never read the books, and had always associated HP with the movies causing a disassociation of the issues of the authors views from my views of the movies. Thank you to all the beautiful lovely souls that have been so brave in making me aware of how deeply entrenched Rowling’s views extend not only into the series but into impacting the human rights of our beautiful Transgender community.
    I wanted to sincerely apologise for this comment in the VO for being triggering for the Trans community. I want to apologise for supporting this series as I was unaware that by watching the series was supporting programs that have taken away human rights from the Trans gender community.
    I really do try my best to be around issues all the time but this one I wasn’t fully knowledgeable in and I should have done better. I will be boycotting all mention of HP in future content and I will not be doing the HP art ideas in any capacity to avoid funding more hateful programs that dehumanise valuable and loved members of our community.
    I am so sorry. I feel absolutely awful for not being aware but thank you for bringing it to my full attention.
    If I have mentioned or said anything else that is harming your community, please politely mention it to me so I can do research and expand my knowledge. I try my best to be inclusive in all areas but I also will never be exposed to the same news, events and networks as all of you and vice versa. Please approach with empathy and kindness as the last thing I want is for you to not feel valued, safe and supported to watch my content and be in this beautiful world. I also want to give myself humility and grace for not being fully aware all of the time due to my own exposure and lived experiences. Please be kind, show love and please know you are all so loved and valued here.
    Sending my love,
    Shelby

    Adorable! They would also make great soap dishes or a dish next to a sink to plop rings in while washing dishes. Also the darker colors instead of the pastels is a better idea to attract the bees so that worked out great using up the left over paints.

    As a beekeeper, we have shallow dishes with rocks in it. The rocks are tall enough (or piled up enough) that the water can't cover them. This way the bees have something to land on and it gives tons of access points for the bees. Small rocks piled above the water line is what I like best.

    If I remember the catalog correctly there should be a sugar dish and mini tea pot along with the cup and saucer. I don’t recall if there was a milk pourer or other things in a full sized tea set

    They turned out so cute. They are perfect for a jewelry dish. I wish I had a small one like that for my rings when I wash dishes. Or on my nightstand when I forget to take off my earrings and I don’t feel like getting back up. I’m not so keen on that color pallet. You know I’m a sucker for your gum tree flowers. 😘

    Bees have a terrible habit of finding the most dangerous water source to drink from! They like to drink from deeper/cooler water, also they love chlorine in swimming pools. Once they find a water source they share the knowledge about it and will continue to use it even when other sources are offered.The best thing you can do to keep bees from drowning is make a floatation device or 'ladder' in the water source they are familiar with. Putting floating wine corks or a brick standing up in the water works really well! (Beekeeper here!)

    • @ShelbySherritt
      @ShelbySherritt  2 года назад +1

      Ahhh thank you so so much!! You are so kind and your advice is so insightful. I didn’t think of the temperature as something that would impact their decision to find the water source! Maybe a deeper dish next time with some ceramic doodas in it for them to land on so the water stays cool!? Also what are your thoughts on the sugar water tip that everyone is sharing about!?

    • @mccunejillian
      @mccunejillian 2 года назад +1

      @@ShelbySherritt You are lovely! I am always in awe of your kindness and thoughtfulness, it was the least I could do to help your beautiful native bees! Sugar water can absolutely bee helpful, as is lemongrass oil. Once you attract the bees to the water source they will continue to use it. Sugar water will sour quickly, especially in the heat. So refresh often and only use it until the bees are established. A deeper casserole like dish or larger pool of water would work perfectly. (I'm envisioning the crab dish!) Could you possibly leave parts of the ceramic bee doodas unglazed so they can get a better grip? As long as they are above the water level? We are in a very hot climate as well and we have a 100 gallon water trough that is planted with water plants and filled with cinder block steps. It is a bee oasis!

    Another way to make a bee watering dish is to fill a deep dish with colorful marbles and then pour in water until it cover about two thirds of them. That way theres no risk of drowning and bees are attracted to bright colors so the marbles will help them find it. Love this little bee dish though! So cute! Place it where you see the most bee activity to make sure they find it :)

    The edges of the plates remind me of a geode. It makes me think of throwing some marbles in the dish then firing it. Obviously with some cool colors underneath the marbles. Also the times ive used marbles, the kiln had tended to burn the color out of the marbles and just make them clear and also create a really cool cracking pattern in them. I think I was firing in cone 6, idk it was a long time ago

    I feel like this could also be a good saucer for a tea bag. Not sure what the proper name is, but you know when you take your tea bag out of the cup, and don’t have a bin around to throw it straight away. You can put the tea bag on one of these super tiny plates.

  • @stephanieruggles7783
    @stephanieruggles7783 2 года назад

    Shelby I would also make a soap dish out of this mini saucer. Just put a water related little pet on the rim and paint it blue for the middle. A seashell or a frog, a tiny dolphin or any fish would do. or even a tiny light house with a boat. The possibilities are endless. Or make it classic: white in the middle and the frilly rim in gold.

  • @jadelightningwolf
    @jadelightningwolf 2 года назад +1

    Rather than using dark black for antiquing, I wonder how a dark brown would do instead? Black desaturates colors, so it drives down the vibrancy of the color palette, where as brown might warm them instead. Brown might also lend to a more "nature" style aesthetic, where as black feels a little sooty and industrial.

    • @ShelbySherritt
      @ShelbySherritt  2 года назад

      That is such a perfect way to explain it ‘sooty’ it’s like it’s been in a chimney ahahhaha! But yes, because Black brings out the grey side of things where as brown brings out the warmer tones. It would definitely make them feel so different! Great idea, next time!! I am not sure if I will do this again because I really just wanted to try it and see how it would look for a future idea and this was a small enough piece that it wasn’t such a big risk 😅
