  • In this review, we check out a 2020 Ford Transit T-350 high roof dually van. We check out the space, go over the interior and then do a 0-60 test with the Transit van. It is a lot of fun to check this big boy out.

    I drove an eco boost 250 van here in FL with the 3.73 limited slip. That thing had some serious balls. God bless the Ford exec who ripped a massive line of cocaine and ok’ed a twin turbocharged posi rear end cargo van.

      50K is steep for a cargo van, but mechanically Ford Transit is miles better than Dodge Ram and $$$$ less than overpriced Mercedes Sprinter. Try getting the passenger one because nothing beats factory cut windows all around..

      I'm in the beginning phase of design for a van converstion myself. One of the things I have learned is that even the cargo vans have a factory option for windows all around. Just not sure on the pricing.

  • @bret9741

    Thanks for the review. So I’ve been driving pickup trucks for 40+ years. I’m a home builder. Last year I bought a ProMaster 3500 high extended. I built in custom shelving and holders that keep all of my tools and supplies organized. It has been truly revolutionary for my life. I hate driving the ProMaster. It’s uncomfortable and noisy. But having 100% of my tools including table saw, miter saw, and most Milwaukee / makita tools needed on job sites plus caulks, hour, screws, fasteners etc is amazing. I use to have to switch out tools a couple of times a day. Now Everything has a place and I can still carry 4x4 pallets in the back and 16’ lumber with the doors closed. I can carry 10-15 2x4x16’s or 20-30 1x6x16 baseboard or casings. Now the restriction is the 16’ lumber is all the way to the dash. So in the ProMaster the shape of the dash reduces how much Incan carry with the doors closed. If the weather is good, I can a lot of long material tied down with the doors partially closed.
    I’m going to sell the ProMaster at the end of the year and get a new Transit. The Transit is more expensive but offers nicer seats and amenities

    • @Razacbc
      @Razacbc 2 года назад +1

      Hey Bret. Did you make the chang to the Transit? I was leaning towards the Ram 3500 Extended, but wasn't 100% sure that I could fit 16' material with the doors closed. Did you have to load up on that the dash, or will it ride down below the cup holders? What would you suggest is the better vehicle for a contractor/carpenter? I'm a GC in Florida and I'm ready to pull the trigger on one. Thanks if you reply.

    • @bret9741
      @bret9741 2 года назад +2

      @@Razacbc I did. I ordered a 2020, with these options. I’ve driven it for 1 year now. 1-ton, extended length, the high cab, 3.5 eco boost, AWD, power seats, leather, Nav, extended fuel tank, sliding drivers side door. I also got the windows in the slider doors and rear doors.
      Only thing I would change is… I’d not get the windows in the sliders or rear doors. The cameras are good enough to not need the windows anymore.
      I wish Ford would offer power folding mirrors on the cargo van with the blind spot monitor. But they don’t. I ordered with the power fold but it arrived with the trailer towing mirrors with blind spot monitor. They stick out so far that it creates problems parking and in the city traffic. I’m looking for a passenger van with the blind spot monitoring mirrors that has been totaled and hope to replace. At $1000 a piece… can’t afford them new.

    • @Razacbc
      @Razacbc 2 года назад

      @Bret Hey Bret, thanks for responding🤝🏽. I've pulled the trigger on a Transit, now I just have to wait for it to be manufactured. Can you tell me about fitting 16ft material in it? I understand that the material goes up almost to the cup holders for 16ft material to ride with the rear doors closed. How many inches would you say you have until you actually are hitting the cup holders? I ordered mine with a large center console which appears to be 4 - 5" deeper than the regular one. I'm hoping that doesn't screw me when loading up material. Can you give me any insight on this? I appreciate it!

    I drove one of those to take some neighbors to a wedding, holy s*^t. I thought I was gonna hit the guy in front of me at the light. It shouldn’t have gone that fast nor covered so much ground so quickly. I spent 20 years driving econolines. Even with 351’s in those vans, they were slow. Thank god the brakes were as good as the acceleration, and the handling is impressive for something so big and blows away the Econoline.

    Im a service plumber and I have had all of the vans. We had the Nissan NV 2500 as well as the Mercedes Sprinter we had the chevy vans and now I currently drive a Ford Transit 3500 Dually. Hands down the Ford Transit is by far the best. I am not a Ford guy. I am typically a Chevy guy but when it comes to cargo van zile would have to say the Chevy was my least favorite. The transit has the most space but yet still drives like a small car. The Nissan was my second favorite and if the Nissan was bigger with more cargo space I would prefer the Nissan but the transit is by far superior

    It really should have a solid and strong bulkhead between the front sets and cargo department. There's potentially a massive load in the back that could slam forward in an accident, squishing the occupants. I'm sure it is a factory option.

    • @donhappel9928
      @donhappel9928 4 года назад +1

      Tons of aftermarket options. There are many companies that specialize in upfitting vans for specific purpose and a bulkhead is super common. Did you want that in steel, aluminum, or insulated plastic? With a window or without? With a pass-thru door or without? etc.

    Right off the start you're (sadly) wrong - this can't tow much at all. Actually the smallest version of the Transit (150, swb, low roof) with the biggest engine (ecoboost, not diesel) has the highest tow rating in the fleet and it's still only 7500 lbs iirc. A couple years ago on the previous generation it topped out at 7100 lbs. The Sprinter is even lower, and the Promaster lower yet. The euro vans are real game changers to work out of - you'll never go back to a traditional American style van once you use one of these, but if you still need to tow they don't cut it. I really wanted one for my work but also needed to occasionally tow 7500-8000 lbs. That only left the Nissan NV2500/3500 to choose from. I ended up going with the 5.6 NV2500 rated at 9500 lbs (2016). I can assure you that 9500 lbs is only viable on flat land. Going over the Sierra is a 40 mph experience at 8000 lbs plus perhaps 1500-2000 cargo.
    I don't actually like my Nissan - the truck style hood is awful; just wasted space and uglier than a Sprinter. It also gets terrible mileage, averaging 13 mpg at sea level if I baby it even with a fairly light average load. With the 7500 lb rating of the 2020 Transit 150 I might be tempted to go that way when it comes time to replace the Nissan, but hopefully by then we'll have better options available.

      Thanks for commenting. I’m ok being wrong. Like I said, I have a lot to learn about vans. I hope you’ll comment back, since I’m curious about your towing needs. Why? Do you really need to tow with a van? It seems like it’s large enough as is.

    • @donhappel9928
      @donhappel9928 4 года назад +1

      @@Pickuptrucktalk I use the van for work day to day and for that it is big enough. However a few times a year I use it to haul my rock crawler to places like Moab. The crawler weighs in about 6000 lbs and the trailer about 1500, hence why I targeted 8000 lb towing capacity. I could have bought a more efficient van for work and a separate truck for towing, but for the the half dozen or so times a year I go far enough to tow instead of drive the crawler I can't justify the cost of a separate vehicle. Given even half ton trucks are rated into the 10,000 lb range these days I was surprised to find the 3/4 and 1 ton version of the big vans were rated so low. By the same token I was somewhat surprised to see how low the mileage is compared to half ton pickups which are regularly in the 15-17 mpg mixed range compared to my 13; granted my van is a 3/4 ton but I don't think the 1/2 ton version would be any better with the same motor as it mostly comes down to aero.

If I'm not mistaken I believe my boss has put 9k in repairs beyond factory warranty repairs with less than 70k miles on it. Did I mention it's already rusting on the roof and just last Friday the Def system failed. It's a diesel which is horribly unreliable.
