    Just a few ideas i'll toss your way: If this MOBO/CPU were still installed in a working system one of the best things you can do is to get the CPU nice and warm before trying to detatch the heatsink from the top of the CPU. You have some relitivly new paste there but if the heatsink and CPU had been married for a long time "like years" the thermal paste can harden a bit and can make things even more difficult! Heating up the CPU "and therefore the thermal paste" can really help here! Obviosly this doesn't apply here as you have the MOBO out of the case....

      Yeah, you can also use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the cooler just fyi ;)

      @@glutenfreegam3r177 I've been working on PC's since the mid 90s and I actually don't recommend this "at least for the inexperienced" because I actually had a person ruin their motherboard using a heat gun! So for liability reasons I do not recommend this to people. Thanks for looking out though.

      @@chrisnelson3635 that's understandable but to be fair..I did suggest warm/heat the cooler, not the motherboard. 😁
      With the availability of so much information these days, even a complete noob could easily research how to protect a motherboard from heat during this process if unsure at all. I've even used a propane torch to warm a cooler for removal..just take the necessary precautions and you're golden.
      Cheers!

      @@glutenfreegam3r177 I didn't suggest they heat up the motherboard......This wasn't under my direct supervision.... Now for those who do not want to use a heat gun heating the CPU up the conventional way ahead of time is still solid advice! And besides not everybody owns a heat gun or a torch, many people do, but not everybody....

      @@glutenfreegam3r177 well a little load on cpu before to get warm is best way

    When removing ANY cooler from an AMD CPU I prefer to remove the cooler after letting the PC run awhile (15-20 minutes is usually sufficient). This warms the paste and prevents the CPU being removed with the cooler. If the mobo cannot be run..I then take a heat gun (or hair dryer) and heat up the heatsink after removing the fan.
    Cheers!

    I would have turned on the computer (assuming it’s still connected to a power supply) and used it for a few minutes in order to heat up and soften the thermal paste. Shut down and remove cooler.

    Mine was way to stuck to do this. Felt like i was gonna rip the socket off the motherboard

    Stupid question, is the backplate gonna stay on there if I remove all four screws?

    • @ScottsPC
      @ScottsPC  Год назад +1

      For me, the back plate always comes off. I end using some 2 sided tape so I can install whatever cooler I put on that requires the original back plate. Good luck to you!

      @@ScottsPC Alright, I guess I'll just have to take off teh side panel and hold it in place for when I screw it back on.

      The Wraith Stealth? I've had mine on a Ryzen 3100 for 3 years and have only cleaned it with a cloth, and I've never switched the thermal paste (I've been living in another country for 3 months at two different times, and the whole year of 2022). Now it sounds like a jet plane lol. I wonder if it's easy to repaste and if I can get a substantially better cooler for a cheaper price (+/- 30€)
