its impossible to overstate how futuristic this sound was. i remember a few of us taking ghetto blasters into school and i would usually rock a tape with the twelve inch versions of 19. they were the days man.
When music can transport you back to a happy time on a Thursday night at 7:30 on BBC1 when Tomorrow's World had just ended and Top of the Pops had just began
Still reminds of my favourite time of the evening. Thursday at 7.30pm BBC 1 I would be sitting on my chair after doing my homework, ready for this tune The Wizard, top of the pop's, brill, can't beat it.
Top Of The Pops brought me here! Here in the United States, I used to watch it on CBS Late Night back in the day on Friday nights while growing up in my school days. British & US pop music in one place when you had the weekends off, those were the days!
The BBC did try out a show in an expanded venue with a live audience in a programme called Must Be the Music, briefly, several years ago. I saw it once or twice but am not sure how successful or not it turned out.
And it was still in the Thursday early evening slot right up to and including 1995. The shift to Friday evening, which had taken place by early 1998,was the beginning of the show's demise.
For a while, I knew Paul Hardcastle for his First Light song Loving You, sampled by Vector Graphics in their song Destine. Today I discovered he only made the most iconic music show theme of all time. What a talent!
... When Top of The Pops was the pinnacle of music TV... before they let Andi Peters become producer and Fearne Cotton got the Christmas Top of The Pops presentation gig!
James Bond made a timeloop into the 20 of january 24 he got some old friends, Girgl and Shore, they got into there cars and went on toward Wörth an der Donau, they baught 30 liters of gasoline and put it on the policecars and the policestation, ouh it was a nice fire 30 liters of gasoline the fire was awakening a lot of people, the firebrigade came on, Girgl Shore and Bond watchd it from a distance, drinking an Erdinger whitebeer, they was joking and had fun...
@Alan Cogan I'm not sure if this is Pauls wife Dolores as she is really veiled in the clothes, but I guess I should ask him directly then 😉, thanks Alan. You and Paul are close friends, right? 🤔
I have to disappoint you, she is definitely older today, not as attractive as she once was, and if she still endured her desire for sex, she would have sex with someone else.

...surely that time-transporting was Doctor Who's department.... :)
Or even when Tomorrow's World was just starting.
With the sound on Radio 1 FM
Back to happier times when nobody knew the BBC was populated by nonces.
Still reminds of my favourite time of the evening. Thursday at 7.30pm BBC 1 I would be sitting on my chair after doing my homework, ready for this tune The Wizard, top of the pop's, brill, can't beat it.
It became the Top of the Pops theme in too late an era for Wizzard to be featured.
Yes. Followed by Tomorrow's World with Maggie Philbin and a bloke called Howard.
Thursday nights just aren't the same without TOTP. This is my favourite TOTP theme. Classic.
Fantastic electronic tune with a complex beat. Never gets old.
pop music was on another level back in the 80s :D
41 years on still love it, great time to be at uni in Uk
When synths ruled the world!
Oh, don't worry, they still do. ;)
this was used as Top Of The Pops Theme. takes me back to a Thursday evening !
Great song & video and top of the pops theme 🎶
Paul ist top 👍
Really good it has an 80s vibe and the song definitely makes you move

Bring back Top of the Pops 👏👏
Same. #PokemonSwordShield

CATWEAZLE in the mix!
And I've just been talking to the Home Office, Mr MacKay. I shan't forget that this football match was your idea!
Still just as exciting! 🤗
"Welcome to Top of the Pops."
Damn, I used to have this song for my breakdance battle for the talent show. This hits hard after 38 yrs.
What rhythm and bass. Love it!!!!!
Love this tune
The Best Groove Of 80s Retro Synth. :)
It's a great tune
Only just found this. 😯 TOTP! Very 80s.
This tune was used as the TOTP theme between 1986 to end of September 1991
Took over from the late great Phil Lynott's song yellow pearl ..
then vince clarke did the following theme tune
@@Sanddancer1 No, that was later. 1991-1995 was Tony Gibber. Good theme. Vince's theme started in 95 or 96.
And it was still in the Thursday early evening slot right up to and including 1995. The shift to Friday evening, which had taken place by early 1998,was the beginning of the show's demise.
@@rjjcms1Plus the fact that there were increasingly more ways to consume music product on the television. TOTP was no longer the be all and end all.
I love the wizard theme bbc four needs to play some top of the pops episode with the wizard theme in it
vocals by Catweazle (Geoffrey Bayldon.
Totally worthy successor to Yellow Pearl for TOTP theme.
"Yes, it's Number 1; it's Top Of The Pops!"
tune 🎶 🎶 🎶 🎶 🔈🔉🔊
Oh wow that takes me back! Just brilliant.
THRES BITS IN THAT TUNE THAT SOUND LIKE THEY COME OUT OF HERBBIE HANCOCK,S ROCKIT IF YOU LISTEN CAREFULLY
Definitely an influence.
Yellow Pearl was perfect for early 80s TOTP, and The Wizard was perfect for late 80s TOTP.
Yes. Actually I also thought the early 90s one after The Wizard was really good for TOTP as well.
Agee !! Spot on 👌
Super Synthie!Klingt richtig gut!
For a while, I knew Paul Hardcastle for his First Light song Loving You, sampled by Vector Graphics in their song Destine. Today I discovered he only made the most iconic music show theme of all time. What a talent!
I wonder if this video was filmed at the TOTP set.
Superb! Just superb!
Totp 1986 what an epic theme tune
And it featured in the chart rundown while providing the backing track for it,as it got to number 15 in late October 1986.
Reminds me of parts of the soundtrack in the game, Billy Hatcher. ✨🎮🎶
OH NO YOU DON'T! It reminds me more of Eggman's Theme from Sonic Adventure.
It actually kinda slaps harder now than it did in 1986 as Top of the Pops’ theme tune.
Truth. It's that far removed from that TOTP period now that people can now appreciate for the standalone track it is.
Love this
NOW ON B.B.C1 ITS TIME FOR TOP OF THE POPS😊
1:12 is that laughing a sample from thriller?
Yes.
Vincent Price!
@@rjjcms1 I keep thinking it's Tim Curry for some reason.
it's sound like yes…
Tremendo la raja.
The theme song for top of the pops
👓 Music!
Muito bom esse video de Paul Hardscastle nos anos80!Ouvindo em 2021
... When Top of The Pops was the pinnacle of music TV... before they let Andi Peters become producer and Fearne Cotton got the Christmas Top of The Pops presentation gig!
Chris Cowey was the last great producer on that show imo. It went downhill after that.
I recognise those samples from Keff's Doctor Who scores
Late 80s Theme for Top of the Pops
Masterpiece
1:08 that howling noise is in Virtua Fighter 2. Namely Sarah's Stage, Black Cat Moon.
It was a very common stock sound effect.
Isnt this the song they played on the countdown on totp
Ahh, those great days when you could feel really smug because your Sony Walkman had a rewind button.... 😂
I had a Toshiba with a rewind button and an equalizer!! I was smug as hell!!
@@thejacal2704 I had a Bic pen so there!
Check out Paul Hardcastle video"Constellation of Dreams ".....Just saying
the b sides good as well
1985? 1986? 1987? ^^,
Top of pop beginning song ^^
Funfact: Paul Hardcastle actually made this for Top Of The Pops as then producer Michael Hurll wanted a new theme tune
HERE WE GO MOTHERF...ER! great stuff. talk about a cool name. it's like if i was called leo supertower. lmao
A song made for Top of the Pops... literally. Was part of the BBC program from 1986 to 1991.
How does this still sound and look like the future and the stuff that’s coming out now sounds dated? Sad
It's a funny old world,Saint.
This reminds me so much of Sonic CD.
during this song i would often find out that the one song in the top 40 i liked had slipped down 11 places.
reupload in HD please

Top of the Pops?
Top of the Pops theme from April 1986 to September 1991.
He robbed this tune off Top Of The Pops.
I could be wrong but I thought he was comissioned to make it specifically for Top of the Pops!
@@rjjcms1 You Obviously dont get Sarcasm..🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Almost as good as 19
sounds oddly familiar
Top of the Pops theme music from 1986 to 1991.
THAT’S THE ONE.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sung by the crowman
about the only good tune on top of the pops
Yellow pearl thin lizzy was the goat
Bit cheesy breakin to this especially after they used it for TOTP's but a class tune nonetheless.. 😅
I wonder who the young lady is who climbs up the stairs and ladder. What is she doing today? 🤔
@Alan Cogan I'm not sure if this is Pauls wife Dolores as she is really veiled in the clothes, but I guess I should ask him directly then 😉, thanks Alan. You and Paul are close friends, right? 🤔
Interesting, I knew he named a track after his daughter (Maxine), didn't realise he did the same thing for his wife.
@@nickdavies2156 "Dolores" is the 2nd track on the b-side of 19 extendet version. 😉
I have to disappoint you, she is definitely older today, not as attractive as she once was, and if she still endured her desire for sex, she would have sex with someone else.
