    For the longest time I've stuck with Ignite Amps' Emissary. Then I tried Neural DSP stuff because of all the hype. They were definitely a huge improvement over the Emissary. But then I tried the ML Sound Lab stuff - the best thing ever. It's not that the Neural DSP stuff is bad - they're really, really good. But man the ML Sound Lab stuff are too good. I've never touched a tube amp in my life and I have no idea if they are accurate, faithful recreations but I just love what comes out of my guitar when I use the ML Sound Lab stuff.

    The leap to Vorna modeling, whatever it is, has really made a difference imo. Not once have I ever felt the need to "poke holes" in my guitar tracks with corrective EQ since switching to the ML Sound Lab stuff.

      Good idea for a video! It's mainly "leading notes" and a bit of experimentation. Really just diving deeper into the chord changes and finding the intervals that actually make those chord changes sound good. Then emphasizing the "melody" that happens within the chord changes. Sounds complicated but really it's very simple.

    What are you doing to me, I'm supposed to be working on relaxing music but you're bring me back into heavy chugging music! LOL 🎸🤘 I also noticed the same situation of not really needing a channel strip with newer version of Roots with new cab feature, the ML Drums same deal and now looking forward to the update described in your video! Looks like I be grabbing ICON because we can never too many tones! 😎✌️, Ciao ALDO

      Icon can definitely pull some relaxing tones, but the high gain will really draw you in. You'll find yourself chugging an open string with a big grin on your face for about half an hour straight. Enjoy it!

    Hey Mikko! This sounds absolutely awesome, you guys do an insane job with your amp sims and i want to give huge props for that!
    I do have a question about your DI Sound - is this simply the guitar -> audio interface -> Amped Plugin? The DI signal sounds so crisp and sparkly and i always feel like the DI sound of my guitar is a bit muffled. So either my guitar Pickup is just like that or you have a secret ingredient to tell us :D
    Cheers!

    • @mlsoundlab
      @mlsoundlab  Год назад +1

      I can't answer specifically to what Mikko was using in this video, but you should be able to get the same results using just your guitar into your interface. The main things towards getting that crisp, bright tone are going to be fresh strings, a good setup, and the correct amount of input gain. For the input gain, start with setting the input gain on your interface so that the input light in Amped begins to blink when you dig in hard on palm mutes.

      Actually this one is directly going to a 18i20 Scarlett so nothing special. No DI or anything. Very simple. Should be easy for everyone to replicate.

    Don't get me wrong, i'm sure this plugin is good but ... What you mean by mix ready "doesn't need to be mixed" exactly? I checked this part when you solo the guitar in my DAW and It will need hipass, lowpass and a notch around 2.8khz there's some nasty stuff right there, then some more eq / multiband compression to get it sit perfect with other instruments in the mix.

    • @mlsoundlab
      @mlsoundlab  Год назад +4

      This is actually a topic I'm planning to make a video on so I'm happy you brought it up. There's a big case to be made for not surgically mixing guitars when you're hearing them soloed because just like you said it will many times sound harsh. So yes, I could've easily made the guitar tracks sound more pleasant soloed by finding that sharp frequency around 3khz. I could've done the Sneap forum multiband trick to control the low end. But at the same time you'll find countless pro mixers mock people that make mixing decisions like this especially in the case of guitars when you're never hearing them outside of the mix. So the video I want to make will hopefully answer this question - in the mix does it even make a difference if you surgically process f.ex. guitar tracks that you will never hear soloed. I know in many cases that processing takes away the raw character of your guitar tone. Many of those things like the low end thumps and that 3khz bite are what make the guitars sound "realistic", although I do understand that this new generation may have no experience of real tube amps so there's no reference for that. I'm not 100% sure what the end result will be but right now what my conclusion has been is that for all the ML demos I make I'd be lying to the customer if I process my guitar tracks and claim that this is what the plugins sound like - this is what most other companies do constantly. I'm quite happy with how well our demos translate on many different sound systems especially considering that there is no post-processing on any of the demos.

    • @matrixmodulator
      @matrixmodulator Год назад

      @@mlsoundlab well... you can hear that 3khz thing in the mix too and the hp and lp filters are always good to have. I know its not a good idea to kill the resonances completely but taming them a bit works fine.

      Unfortunately we don't add mappings for E-Kits, there are so many of them that it's difficult for us to keep on top of it. You can create your own MIDI map in a matter of minutes though - each kit piece has a "MIDI Learn" button in the MIDI tab. Hit the button, then the corresponding piece on your kit. Save your mapping when you're done with it and you'll be good to go!
