Our best buddy Ryan "Fluff" Bruce made a tutorial on how he gets the most out of his Amped Roots plugin.

This kind of content is really helpful to improve our home recording knowledge!
Thanks and cheers!
So glad to have helped you out!

The tone has a very “homesick” sound to it, those more scooped guitars have that sound. Love it
Yessss. Holdin' It Down is of my all-time favourite guitar tones! 💪
-Kai
You guys have the best sims IMO, thanks for that!
Thank you 💪
-Kai
Oh man your sound is amazing .. great Job ML SoundLab
This is great! Roots is still one of my favorites! I’m just an ML sound lab fanboy! Amazing plugins and IRs! 🙌🏽
Thank you so much!
-Kai
I don't have a pedalboard, this Amp was a great gift for me. I've always wanted to play on an EVH 5150 III, but I don't have the money to buy one. I'm grateful that this program is free. I really liked the Amped Roots 5054 Fluff. I intend to buy the other Amps (5151, Freeman and Mega Fluff), at the moment I'm having fun with the Free Amp.🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸
Thank you ever so much for dropping a comment - this is why we do what we do. So glad to hear you're having fun with it!
-Kai
Sounds great! 👍 I was just using these two amps for double tracking on a song today.
Such a great pairing, glad to hear they're working well for you!
-Kai
sounds really good will have to try it out definitely
Sure does! So happy that even the very first amp sim plugin we released gives people these tones. :)
@@mlsoundlab well he's not using the free version
That sounded really really good. Very good audio engineering
Fluff is truly wonderful at what he does. 😇
-Kai
@@mlsoundlab He is to the mans a rocket scientist when it comes to the studio.
Looks like you have the Black Box plugin on the guitar channels doing something as well. What settings do you use for that?
Dude! Take me back to 1996 why don’t ya! Great riffage my dude!🤘
The saturator really does something I used to love/hate Pickups for. It gives the palm mutes more character and definition.
Saturators add that little bit of secret sauce that make guitar tones extra awesome!
-Kai
Also it's adding 3dB of gain to the guitars. Yeah, that'll help make it cut through the mix. Would love to hear it gain matched to hear what the saturation actually does.
Could I use fabfilter Saturn instead to saturate ??
The SSL plugin is on sale for $19 on Sweetwater right meow.
Great spot! Also on sale on the SSL site too. Thank you!
-Kai
Love the fat wreck chords
Shirt.nofx and fat mike are my heros.
The ML stuff is great
Thanks for the support! 💪
-Kai
cool video...those are becoming the standard EQ cuts these days, they should just build in a Q filter directly into the amp sims to save you that extra step/processing
Built-in standards are bad because then everyone will just sound the same. It also depends veeery much on the chosen cab IR what you'll need to do with the EQ
Thank you for the feedback! It's definitely something we can consider going forward!
-Kai
i had this set to .75 speed by mistake and that made Fluff Drunk AF
Pretty cool man. I use an Axe-FX, but if I didn’t have one I would def. Try this out!
Appreciate it, thank you!
-Kai
Great video guys. This process of having 2 different amps on each side could help the clarity for the mid information like kick bass snare vocals? thanks
Definitely a case by case basis, but it's worth trying!
-Kai
Sounds like Jimmy Eat World's version of Last Caress. Cheers.
Would any saturator do the trick or is it a very specific feature of that plugin?
Great sounding tones! The drums sound incredible as well. What drum plug in did you use here?
You should have matched the input and output gain of the saturation plugin. Comparing pre and post saturation in a mix is worthless if you are adding gain during saturation.
What is on the master track though??????
What signal chain did you use. Like does the saturator come before or after the amp/ir
What was the band? It sounded like Lagwagon or No use for a name.
RUclips compression helps
Fluff, I was wondering what processing power would I need to run this plug-in. Just got v2 and man it really sucks the processing out of my rig. Using S1 Pro 4.5. AMD Ryzen 2700 32G Ram@ 2933 and on B350 Tomahawk. My other sims use way less processing.
Hey Roy!
Our plugin should be fairly similar to the rest of the industry in CPU usage, so if you're experiencing any wild CPU spikes it's worth playing about with your sample rate and buffer size to find one that Roots plays best with on your machine. These CPU spikes are something we're looking into at the minute though!
Thanks,
Kai
@@mlsoundlab I really like this ROOTS 2. Sounds very good. Thanks for the hard efforts. I updated my cpu to Ryzen 7 3700x and gave me the ability to up my Ram frequencies to 3200. It helped some and yes, my sample rates do help somewhat. I'm really looking forward to using Roots2 on more than one track at a time while tracking. For now I am printing my tracks and hopefully will be able to find the right fitment in the overall mixes. Thank you.
Sweet
please add a pitch shifter pedal in the pedalboard and it would be the best plugin in the world……!!!!!
This is clearly missing Billie Joe Armstrong.
I couldn't tell any difference. I'm really starting to worry about whether or not I can be a recording studio person. 😕
Hey Randall!
What are you listening to the video through? The differences will probably be heard best through headphones, they really help to pick up the more subtle differences. If headphones aren't an option, make sure you're pumping a little bit of volume out of whatever playback device you're opting for.
Hope this helps!
-Kai
@@mlsoundlab Yeah, I'm just listening through 2 pairs of desktop speakers while I'm working at my job. They're good, but not all-the-frequencies good. Haha
I hate him.
Not enough beard talk. Do not recommend. 😂
Not enough clean tone
@@EspressoMartini007 The tone is nothing special here but I think you’re just a cleans only “player”.
None if my VST plugins ever sound anywhere near what I hear on youtube.
Sounds like something might be up with your signal chain - what interface are you using, and what are you monitoring with?
-Kai
@@mlsoundlab Hi Kai thanks for your reply. I have a Scarlete solo 2nd gen and KRK monitors. The scarlet plugs directly into the PC via USB. When I DI my Gallien Krueger 800RB into the scarlet it sounds great. I'm using Ignite AMPs for my impulse cab and I have numerous free and paid for IRs. Some of the paid guitar plugs i have are: Amped - Roots, Archetype Gojira, guitar rig 6, toneforge menace and U530. I play a basic ibenez gio model however when I use a 87` washburn flying V, the same tone outcomes occur. My DAW is calkwalk.
All sounds like a pretty normal setup to me, nothing seems to be inherently wrong there. In that case, I'd suggest you check your input gain levels. In Amped Roots, you'll want the input knob's light to just begin to blink when you chug hard. Adjust the gain on your interface and the input knob to find a balance here that works for you. Other than that, technique and pick attack play a massive role in the sound you're hearing in demo videos. Try picking harder, or swapping to a different material of pick to give you the attack you're looking for!
-Kai
@@mlsoundlab awesome thanks! I'll check the gains but I never thought of the pick selection!
