This is just good advice for life in general - hear people out. Maybe he's not asking for money, maybe she's not trying to sell you something, maybe he's not trying to get your number.
I feel honored, back in the late 80's, in one of my few attempts at stand-up I was heckled by Paul F. Tompkins at a club in Philly called Antic City. Looking back, if I would have had this advice, it wouldn't have helped my material but it could have been more fun... LOL
What a great and applicable advice, I also stopped shutting down these hecklers in my family - turns out those children like me and they have interesting questions if I let them speak.
Intriguing study. Some comedians/influencers have a record to sass the audience randomly or intentionally. Cause and effect offer worlds of inertia when heckling is founded on the counterargument, especially when the host instigate the slanders.
I have many fears, saying something wrong at a Paul F. Tompkins set is in the top ten. I love him..... I fear him. Or more correctly I fear his disapproval.
This all seemed obvious to me, but for myself I do this because I just love having a conversation and going back and forth building upon it. After watching this though I have actually seen this happen where people feel they're getting attacked when really myself or others are actually just trying to agree with them or support them.
This is a great video! Although I'm sure that Steve Hofstetter is resenting you boiling down his entire channel into two and a half minutes, I very much appreciate it!
I think, with practice and a sharp mind, it could be viewed as one step further: I've seen some comedians make an impromptu comedy-duo out of talented audience members. Those audience members may not (probably certainly won't) have an entire set to add in with, nor would 99% of them attempt to do so - but with quick wit some folks have funny quips, addendums, or plays off of the comedian that the comedian can, in turn, use for the benefit of everyone.
It's far meaner to intentionally disturb a performance (in a classical heckling sense), because it shows a lack of respect for the person on stage and fellow audience members.
Just heard this executed on the podcast... sort of ham handedly by his partner. Turned the audience off by not hearing him out the first time, did it the second time, and then the audience shut him down too.
No . Yeah , It is.a leaning opretunity . Not nesisary ly an attack . But I had never been in that situation be for . The hecler came to my work.station. and showed me where I went wrong in my.presentation . I'm greatfull for his instructions .

This is the least funny man I've ever seen in my life! I had to look him up after watching a TERRIBLE episode of Just for Laughs. He literally reminds me more of a crisis actor. I mean dude, if you got a plan b, use it. Cause this shit ain't for you! If anyone can point me to an actual funny bit of his, I'd love to see it! 😂 He is bland and takes years to get to a punchline that wasn't even funny.
How do you handle a heckler?
Big think and Paul F. Thompkins? What is this a crossover episode?

Right now this is something I feel needs to be re-learned.
PFT is super skilled being on stage. He's absolutely an expert.

Thank you Mr. Peanutbutter! 😄

“Weird!?! ..I mean.. you have GOT to KEEP it DOOOWWNN!”
One of my favorite stories
PAUL THOMKINS ON BIG THINK! WHAT IS THIS, A CROSSOVER EPISODE??
Great advice
Glad you've found advice in the video!
Sounds like he does a lot of stand-up in Canada.
That sounds pretty smart. Must admit I can't think of a comedian who does that
A person who "forgot themselves" - what a kind way to say "got shitfaced."

Paul F. Tompkins is a genius
PFT is a class act. I wish he'd come to AZ

I will always think of PFT as Mr. PeanutButter.
Erica!

This a basic thing that you learn watching any professional stand up comedian.
I thought this is that famous astronaut.
Chris Hadfield? :)
@@ZeHoSmusician haha. yeah :D
Smart man
Might I offer you some canned peanut brittle?
Hahalolol .. love that one!!
Yeah, I was thinking Neil was on my side. I probably got all defensive for nothing, but still
You just described the Bernie Sanders method of talking to the media.
***Michael Richards has entered the chat***
As a piss pig I know this man's speaks the truth
Oh I thought Paul's advice for dealing with hecklers was going to be "stop doing stand-up for 15 years."
Brilliant lol
He looks like Kit Harrington 10 years from now.
❤ PFT
Bottom line: he learned how to behave and be a good boy.
This is the best.
I stopped watching bill burr because he is so defensive.
Intawesting
Interesting point, I really feel bad when I see comedians attacking their audience, it's mean and ruins the show.

BIG THINK...... indeed 🙄
And isnt this the case outside the comedy clubs, in any social situation?

His suits always remind me of Saul Goodman
