- Hey guys welcome back to Reid's engine reviews. Today I got a great one from scraptopia, and it's one of a kind. Why am I writing this nobody reads these anyway.

Ok I just wanted to say that I did try to use the weld tool, but it wasn't connecting correctly for me. I cut out those attempts since nothing came of it, but I think I see what I need to do now. Regardless, it was a fairly minor part of the build so thankfully it didn't ruin the project!
yeah it usually only works on a lift, but it could also be that the physics engine is extremely stupid
Usually if the weld tool isnt working properly, it should work on the lift, but yeah the interactions between objects in scrap mechanic is kinda broken
Put it on the lift then press-hold-drag
hold shift while using it!
You don’t have to get the game but I recommend stormworks, it has very complicated logic and lua programming and it’s based around the same mechanical processes you use it’s fun as
Me, knowing you can just place an engine block: *I’m 4 parallel universes ahead of you*
Then places bearing and hits with hammer
The guy lives in 2077
even better, use that glitch where the wheels were constanly rotating to power your vehicle
ok mr combat
Not enuf torque
"So another thing I wanted to try was adding suspension to the piston connections..."
Famous last words
Did you say combine slot of bearings with a lot of pistons and a lot of suspension? Sounds like an awesome idea and won't glitch at all
he said that and I thought he's just pouring gasoline on a fire
adding suspension to all of those bearings was effectively throwing water onto an oil fire.
Definitely not the most efficient way to make a radial engine, but it was inventive and fun. :)
He invented perpetually rotating wheels, nothing can be more efficient
@@someonerandom9939 what I meant was that some people have created really compact and powerful radial engines like this one by Kan Gaming ruclips.net/video/GWwgjna0xAQ/видео.html
You can use the weld tool to connect two different peices
It needs to be a loose build on a lift to do it in the way he needs
@@Shadow79XXX well tbh he should have been building on a lift anyway then welding it to the ground
@@brandanwait8705 yes, he should.
I was implying that it would be alot harder to find out himself if he wasn't starting on a lift to begin with.
2:53 "the most important part of the radial onion" according to the captions
Edited since I put the wrong timestamp 😅
Lol
Lol
Lol
he did say radial onion
@@pastasketti have dare you
You know, most my recommended is short clips, videos I don’t feel like watching, or just plain bad videos.
But somehow, your videos always make me go, “Hmmmm... yeah I do wanna watch a person be smart for 16 minutes.”
Reid Captain: Makes an engine in Scrap Mechanic
Scrap Mechanic: there are engines in the inventory you know
lol yet another overengineering thing
Actually, piston engines can be really useful in survival, since they can give you a ton of power and don't require any fuel. That said, most people seem to make them with pipe pieces and sensors, so they're a lot more compact.
@@EpsilonRosePersonal interesting
@@spacewalk3046 I know it was just a joke lol
Piston engines are better than default engines performance-based, you can literally haul a mountain without using a drop of fuel
Only problem is it's hella slow, expensive, and you have to make an entire gearbox for it
You should learn Scrap Mechanic's glitches such as "suspension glitch" because these could help you a lot. In Scrap Mechanic it's game engines 'quarks' are what makes this game so fun
No,he Will not use bugs
@@DEACCOF still he can learn how to avoid them
Next time use small pipe pieces. They give the blocks more leeway as they don't take up a full block of space which means less friction physics glitches. You can condense this creation DRAMATICALLY if you did that.
@That Fat Guy From GTA SA Read his pinned comment. I get he's kinda being. . . in a polite way of saying it "game-wise uneducated to a less than a beginner level" with it, but he still addressed that issue, even if he didn't "fix" it. . . or learn how to actually use the thing accurately.
About the controller thing : You can change the degrees 1 by 1 and not 15 by 15 by holding shift
No f!cking way 😨
@@momchilkalestrov8707 he didn't seemed to know
Reid: Imma build a radial engine!
Also Reid: doesn't know what they look like
Scrap mechanic is a completely fine game with no glitches :)
yeah, i completely agree:)
@@KindOfWitch yeah, i completely agree with your agreement :)
@@vibaj16 and i agree with your agreement to my agreement but im not sure if i should be agreeing to this agreement cause agreeing to your agreement is agreeing to my agreement and that the wrong type of agreeing

Him: "So I added the suspension"
Me: "Grab the popcorn! He just made a suspension glitch!"
I haven’t watched this game in a while. Damn I’m having nostalgia now.
In the past i thought u were dead, but i was wrong. Now u are one of my fav game mechanic channel
I can't wait for you to figure this game out completely bc how you built this was hard to watch. Great build though 😁
Very very cool and interesting video as always with you showing off your cool engineering skills lol, I also think you'd like a game called StormWorks: Build and Rescue. The game recently had a Nuclear, Coal, and Steam power update and I think you'd like the complexity of that game.
Just saw your PolyBridge Videos. Definitely will be binging the whole channel later
also you can use a custom number in the controller with the w key and the s key
Next vid: *Making a Nuclear Reactor in Scrap Mechanic*
Btw, there a mods, also a gear mod, flight mod etc, might help doing even cooler and more accurate stuff!
Nice video!
Nice! I really enjoy the Scrap Mechanic content!
Love your vids man, glad to be this early :)
Instead of a seat to block the bearings you can use a controller that is smaller, also if you shift while setting an angle on the controller it changes the angle by 1 deegre instead of 15
next episode : making the answer to life in scrap mechanic
you are getting too powerful my man
Alright man, that was awesome!
You need to have alook into some of the gears mods, youd love them.
I think you should go Rob Dahm and build a 4 rotor version with a 45 degree offset for each one.
I know it would be a lot of stress on the game but it could run smoother and at more rpm.
P.S the steering may not have been the focus but it stole the show.
Honestly very interesting to see you try a radial engine I actually work on these at my local air museum I helped make a cutaway version of the helcat also if you put the creation on the lift you can use the weld tool to weld two parts of the same creation together however you can't do that directly to a bearing suspension or piston
You can make gears with curved pipes. (They are non glitchy and reliable) also for the gears, dont extend them only do a central 4way pipe and curved pipes on the sides. The curved pipes should be parallel to the main shaft
Awesome Video! Make a very realistic Inline next! I double dog dare you
this new upload schedule is fantastic
quick tip. With the controller press shift and then move the angle for the bearing. Does it is 1 degree increments.
great video, you should watch kan’s radial engine btw he did a great job of fixing the glitchy ness and stutter
If you build a line of blocks from one bearing and the line ends up crossing over another bearing, the line will link to both bearings. This probably onyl works while on the lift, since lifted bearings are perfectly frozen straight
You should try trail makers!
I don't actually play scrap mechanic, but trailmakers is a lot of fun.
Have a look at stormworks
very minor thing but thank you for not putting the full-bright wikipedia page there at 2:46 and blinding us ;D
Yeah it was really bright, glad someone appreciated it
The thing about a radial engine is that one of the connecting rods is solid to the piece that connects the rest of the rods that way that X piece that connects to the rods can't twist
I was hoping for more scrap mechanic and here we are
RC: **adds suspension to the pistons**
Suspension glitch: WELL WELL WELL LOOK AT WHAT WE HAVE HERE!
and for the couplings between the pistons and the crank, tou could put pipes on the contact points to make it stop throwing bebris everywhere
quick tip if you try to weld somthing to a bearing it welds to the block the bearing is on
if you hold shift while setting degree in the controller, you can move it 1 degree at a time
Mistakes that Captain has made
1. 1:27 use a controller instead of a seat its a lot easier
2. 1:38 you have a welding tool you don't need to make a big-ass thingymajig to attack two things together
This is not a mistake but more of a request plz play survival
Keep up the good work Reid!
the "rombus" bit in the middle is actually the same piece as one of the connecting rods. This is what keeps the center from rotating.
if you hold shift and change the controller settings, you can add or remove 1 degree
Wait till he sees a video of radial engines by kan gaming.
it's interesting that your experiences with mechanical engines in other games caused you to create an absurdly large piston engine for scrap mechanic standards
Yes more scrap mechanic
You can use pipes to make a round edge without using wheels so that collision thing doesn't happen from when you used the block
I like how he knows so little about Scrap Mechanic, yet he always manages to make a working thing in the end, despite the game refusing to work with him.
welding bearinged objects on the same creation have to be on a lift and you will notice that particurlar parts will glow and you click and drag avalable ones would be next to it unless conected already same for suspension
Pipes might've been a good idea instead of blocks
*have
I would love to see a hammer jump starter engine. Idk why but I think that would be interesting to see.
9:10 hey we found a new way of getting free energy
i got scrap mechanic for my birthday (may 7th) and i can say it's super fun
This is great:)
I have no idea what's happening but I'm happy to be here
Next part of making a computer in scrap mechanics? And will you continue the coil gun project too?
The joys of non consistant physics based games
Reid watch the Weilder tutorial if you do that you can learn alot like
-Copy and pasting creation so you don't have to make another module
-You don't need to make a lock around the wheels
-and other useful things
would it be possible to make a gear chain to increase the power it supplied? I know very little about how building works in this game but this video showed up so I might as well ask lol.
I think the main pistons are jittery because their corners are hitting each other. If you used the ramp pieces, there wouldn't be any corners for them to get stuck on.
I thought they weren't touching but hitboxes can be weird, so that's not a bad thought!
You know it's WAY easier to build on a lift, for exemple creations on a lift have all bearing rotation locked untill you remove the lift and you know, can lift your creations with the up and down arrows
I love your videos!
If you use the lift and the well you do not have to line it up you can just click on it and click on another and it will build all the surfaces
I'd reccomend watching some of Kan gaming's or durfs videos to figure out how to make stuff like this better in terms of picking blocks
I think it would be really interesting to see a Collab with kAN Gaming
this is incredible
Imagine, if you had two wheels on either side of the crank shaft and you could manually engage and disengage them. Boom, you’ve got your forward, reverse, and steering.
You can use pipe pieces and curved pipe pieces to make good gears
Instead of using a seat to lock it you can use a controller. There is no difference in function but it’s smaller, only 2x1x1.
I suggest you try a game called main assembly, the building mechanics is similar to Dream car builder (sorry if my English is bad).
As a veteran scrap mechanic player when he said add a suspension I genuinely laughed as I knew exactly what was gonna happen lol
If you had done a gear chain with the mesh being above and below instead of side by side it would have run better, never played the game but that version with the teeth looks like it would work
man is gonna build a whole ass steam locomotive next
If you use the tires you could use them to power something?
Yeah this type of thing needs a fully free to move piston which scrap mechanic apparently doesn’t offer... they are always trying to move to a different position and exerting a force where there should be none and because of how collisions work it breaks them free.
you should use wedge blocks to smooth things out
why didnt you use pipe peices for the crank shaft instead of wheels?
you need a master connecting rod wich is connected dirrectly to one of the pistons like real radial plane engines have.
It will run better.
my mans added real piston return springs
Me who knows how the welding tool works: I’m 4 parallel universes ahead of you
You should watch some of kAN's piston car videos
You know, there also exists gear mods, that works very well. (But not sure if they exist for the current version)
Challenge: make an engine in besiege using only vacuums as the source of energy
"a wheel on the back that rotates when needed"
me: what about steering bearings on the front wheels
Hey Reid just wanted to let you know there is a good gear mod you can download to scrap mechanic that can take some of that glitching out and make gearing much easier.
If you mean the ACL gears mod well that mod is broken
I think powering it with thrusters instead of slow pistons would be more accurate to an engine, I'd say that mods for 1x1 pistons would be cool though since the 2x2x4 is an odd size
Thrusters are a neat idea!
what if you just lock two of the wheels could that work for steering
Did they fix the suspension memory-leak yet? It was the reason why I stopped playing the game two and a half years ago.
I just couldn't build what I wanted to build and it kept getting laggier the longer you played.
My solution is to use a bearing on both blocks before placing the block and it'll connect
The weld tool 🫣
i love this guy im always yelling at him because he cant play scrap mechanic
Gears are usually made with small tubes.
I love this game!!!
me when you could just get the gear mod: **im five parrellel universes ahead from you**
i highly suggest you to use "country roads" as a music in your videos
Hahaha yes
damn true, would be so amazing tho
I feel like a lot of binding problems could be solved with making the blocks pipes
Every comment on this video is saying that you should've used the weld tool, but the way you did this wouldn't allow you to. When you put something on the lift, it will reset the position and rotation of everything, meaning that only one of the pistons would be lined up with the shaft. What you would need to do is make it so when in the lift's position, all of the ends of the pistons are connected to the shaft, then once it's taken off the lift, the start of the pistons are moved into the right position. There is no way to have welded piston engines other than doing something like this because of the fact that pistons can't be extended or partially extended on the lift. I would suggest taking a look at some of the piston engines you could find on the workshop to see how this is done, because it means you can have replicable engines that work much better.
Him trying to connect to separate pieces. Me know you have to put it on a lift.
