A clutch might help with the engine stalling problem. You could have it disconnect the transmission and differential while you change gears, and ease the load on the engine.
The game adds drag to the swivel joints, gears, and basically anything that rotates other than the ball joint, the amount of drag that thing has will make it not go as fast, I've made something like this but didn't work as well... Nice work man! It really could have some improvements, also the engine could also have some improvements but its amazing! Nice work! I also suggest you use the "No limits" mod to help out, when you want to, you can use the "Easy scale" mod to scale stuff and build cool things!
If you get the enhancement mod, you can change everything about the piston, including the length it extends, and the NOLIMITS mod seems like it would work for you. Hope this helps with future designs! Edit: I’ve never gotten so many likes on a comment of mine before, thanks!
@@OltsuSuomesta no offence but theres no fucking way you’re better than most of the builds using nolimits. i mean. functional one key walker mech? piston engine powered plane?

Ok so i wanted to first tell you how much i appreciate you for uploading besiege stuff, it´s one of my favourite games and i love to watch other peoples creations. I´ve been building transmisions in besiege for years and i thought of giving you some advice but, appart from trying to build things in a smaller scale i cant think of any. I love the piston motor and if i could only say one thing it would be that you should use the bearings in a more compact way., placing them head to head only makes it double its size. If you simply put one on top of the other like you do when you use them with gears you gain some space that may be whats making your builds too heavy to move. Appart from that, thank you and good luck, I hope your channel grows a lot and more people enjoys your content.
You might enjoy the mod 'colliderscope.' It shows you the colliders, connection points and build points on blocks which might help you make everything tighter. Its not the prettiest thing, but it can help with mechanical set-ups.

FUN FACT: you can build an automatic transmission by having a pair of differentials connected to each other with one side being low gear and the other being high gear.
Me playing this game: I'll add all the explosives I can fit and hope the wheels don't fall off before I get to the villagers. Awesome videos, didn't know I needed this I my life.
8:25 I... I think you just made a clutch? Also, I'm new here and my friends play besiege so I get some of this, and I love cars. Thank you for existing.
You can use braces and two unpowered stacked ontop of each other to create rotating pieces that are only half of the size and much more stable btw, rather than using swivel joints. I've built suspension, constant velocity transmission, planetary gear based transmission, and a v8 engine in besiege before, and its interesting to see the ways you're going about solving the same problems.
A game of abstraction would be very funny: input -> build -> output; abstract output -> build -> output; abstract2 output -> build-> output So we would to build almost anything, with any size, with any weight, inside anything.
Never heard of this game till i started watching your videos. What you have created really is awesome regardless of its usability in game. i love watching this kind of content. i do wonder if there is anyway to make something chain driven? also had you thought about perhaps moving the crank shaft to the lower side of the engine and have the pistons above? my reasoning is you may lose less power this way as you can direct drive with a drive shaft of sorts. rather then transfer the power with the cogs / gears to the gear box. any play between cogs / gears will reduce your overall power output, especially with so much play within the gearbox its self which isn't fault of yours. or any fault for that matter, just the confines of the work space :)
Hey, so this is freaking amazing! Also, I have a bit of advice. I heard you say that your engine wasn't powerful enough and that we can agree on, lol. But By making it a v6 or a v8 or rather an inline 6 and an inline 8 engine you might not make as much power as you hope. I know that in real life there are tons of reasons why things work and don't work and it's the same in videogames. But back in time when we didn't care about emission rates of vehicles, people thought to make a car go faster or be stronger, throw more pistons at it! Well, that didn't really work. There's an older Lambo that's a w12. It has 12 cylinders and yet it still doesn't make more power than modern-day inline 4 cylinder engines. so it's possible to make your engine have more torque and still limit yourself to 4 inline cylinders. If you were to make your pistons longer that might help, but too long and their power output will plummet, so I propose you create a timing belt and chain. This will allow your pistons to actuate at the perfect time. I've made piston engines in scrap mechanics and they are hundreds of times more powerful there because of how the mechanics of the game work. They're just more precise in that game. In besieged, however, there's much much more flexing and weird things that shouldn't happen and because of this and how the sensor setup in your engine is working, it's making the timing in your engine off. I think so at least. So by creating a mechanism that will allow the pistons to actuate at precisely the correct time you can dramatically increase your power output and give you more torque output straight from the driveshaft without having to use multiple gear reductions. Love, a guy who likes video games and cars Amazing vid btw! I love your videos! Do with this information what you will. Just wanting to make the world a better place and yada yada yada whatever. Peaces dude.
While the V6 would certainly be harder on the synchronisation, one of the problems with your current engine is the even set-up. With this you have effectively two pistons pushing direcly against each other. If you decide to place the pistons differently with the V8 this could be solved/bypassed, but if not not I think a V6 is the better of the two options for power.
If you are going to upgrade the engine, would recommend a 4 position radial engine, so if you want to increase the power you could just add another radial

This is very cool. Do you think you could try to make a car suspension system next? I love building suspension systems in besiege and I’d love to see what you come up with.
You get ideas from their website (in game they have the site connected to app, under download planes. But it’s not just planes.) I don’t work for SimplePlanes by the way
maybe you could build a turbine with haeted water canons, a turbine in besiege creates way more torque than a piston engine (I know this because I created both (my piston engine was yet slightly different from your, more powerful but much heavier), and the turbine is definitly more reliable, simple and powerful to power a car)
you could try adding another 4 besiege pistons to each piston on the engine making a Y shape, then it could more easily be timed than over under and it would triple the engine power
The gearbox could actually be quite useful, low gears help you get up steep slopes, high gears help with ramming speed ;) Much more flexible than having just one speed.
