I've been having fun playing with a character that's emotionally unstable. Flipping from one emotion to the other very quickly and often inappropriately.
as a person who has difficulty reading the emotions on a person's face, this was helpful for so much more than art. Thank you. [edit/afterthought] Also, I've come to learn that anger is rooted in fear. I've noticed that when I'm angry about something, if I think on it enough I'll find it's because I'm scared of something that has happened, or something repeating. Fear is looking to the future, anger looks to the past. Not the same emotion, but the same roots. I thought it was cool and wanted to share.
i like your description of animating jerks. i talk about microexpressions with my students. so many people new to animation have no idea what their faces do or how they move.
He really liked this tutorial. It's been 7 months I thought you gave up on RUclips, glad to see you didn't forget about us. Looking forward to watch the next one.
I may have to disagree with this, as animator you should not animate emotions. Acting with emotions is the wrong way to go, I rather see what a character is capable to do or will do if he/she feels sadness, I don't want it to show me sadness, I rather see how he handle the sadness and what will he/she do about it. Other thing is that animating emotions for an audience will become just sympathy for the character emotion, basically what audience see, audience should feel.
04:10 "We aren't just animating the action, & we aren't just animating an emotion. We're animating an empathizable reason behind the emotion" The 'define your characters' section is all about that 😉
I completed my animation in rig but i forget to reference it first but now it's going heavy So is there is any option... To make that file rig as reference rig file
Yes open an empty scene and reference the file you animated. Or download studio library to save your animation there and paste it on the referenced rig in a new scene.
Wow just Wow that was Heavy! The most professional video I have seen on you tube and the subject so well explained. I see an Oscar in your future. How long did that take to produce?
Thanks so much! I'm not exactly sure how long it took, I've been working on it on weekends since the beginning of the year haha. If I had to guess, maybe 3-4 weeks if I was working on it fulltime.
Thanks for this! I'm a current animation student starting dialog classes. I've been having a hard time getting past the point of generic expressions. This video has given me a better idea of portraying emotion and not just slapping on a soulless expression. I'm sure your channel will be helpful this semester so thanks in advance!
I just discovered your channel, and I absolutely love your style! I'm a fellow game animator, but I'm a Nintendo fan before anything. I subscribed seconds after that Kakariko Village theme kicked in. Thanks for the hard work it takes to put these videos together, you give fantastic advice! 👏 Edit: The Animal Crossing song at the end ❤
What are YOUR favourite emotions to animate?
Be happy stay happy

Curiosity. Hands down.
Although that's more of an intellectual state than an emotion....per se.
Angry 😡

Underrated!
I have two questions: how could I apply this as an actor to my own face and how would I describe emotions in a script or a book?
i like your description of animating jerks. i talk about microexpressions with my students. so many people new to animation have no idea what their faces do or how they move.

What is Overshoot Animation.. can u explain it please...
An overshoot is when the motion moves past the end position and bounces back
He really liked this tutorial.
It's been 7 months I thought you gave up on RUclips, glad to see you didn't forget about us. Looking forward to watch the next one.
I didn't give up on RUclips! I just don't have the time to make videos like I used to. I'll try to make the wait shorter for the next video 🙏
@@SkittyAnimates no problem. I'll be waiting for it and take as time as you need before releasing them.

I completed my animation in rig but i forget to reference it first but now it's going heavy
So is there is any option...
To make that file rig as reference rig file
Create a new scene and reference in the file you animated
@@SkittyAnimates but i already my shot or animate that rig already
And i want that same rig and same animation in other file by use reference
Yes open an empty scene and reference the file you animated.
Or download studio library to save your animation there and paste it on the referenced rig in a new scene.

amazing video!!! would you say the Leo rig is beginner friendly?? was considering either getting the Leo rig or the new 2022 Kayla rig
