Legendary Wrestler Bill "Superstar" Dundee talks about Jerry Lawler, Ric Flair, Jim Cornette and classic Memphis Wrestling and sets the record straight as only he can do!
I am a professor of history and popular culture and I grew up watching the “Superstar.” One topic that consistently generates student interest is professional wrestling, more accurately “old-school professional wrestling.” No matter the venue, no matter the crowd, Bill Dundee gave all he had to those in attendance. I recently purchased his book. His storytelling ability pops with the same truth, velocity, power, and aim as his right fist. Excellent video. Thank you for posting. I will spread the word regarding the channel.
Enjoyed hearing Superstar Bill Dundee tell about his career. This is awesome! I loved Memphis Wrestling and went to the studio, Mid-South Coliseum and lots of the out of town matches. It was always so much fun!
I grew up around Memphis wrestling. Not from Memphis but I watched it every Saturday. Dundee, Lawler, Cornette, Moon Dogs, Kearn, Valiant, Mantell, Rude, many others. I could name a hundred or more. Bill Dundee was one of the smallest but baddest that ever existed. Beings I was a small guy, I played ice hockey and football. I loved to fight. At 54 y/o now, do not back me into a corner, I will come out fighting. Whatever you may think, wrestling is NOT fake. It may be staged by WWE but the 70's and 80's were real. Believe it or not, there are wrestlers hiding. I am sure some are in jails and pens.
George Barnes & Bill Dundee team in Gulas Wrestling Enterprises from 2/5/75-5/31/75 6/2/75 Memphis, TN Mid-south coliseum Bill Dundee ( began his GWE solo career)
i seen Bill Dundee after a match in Blytheville Ar get in a fans face who heckled him all through the match.Dundee just lit into him.Cussed him and just dared him to hit him
I was there that night!!! (If it's the same night) I think the guy was drunk, but i remember Lawler opening the ropes for the guy to come into the ring. I asked my grandpa what was happening, and he said "well son, if that boy gets into that ring he's fixin to get educated", LOL. He would walk up and tease getting in, but he never did. I so miss those days!!!
Like it are not Bill Dundee And Jerry Lawler where the two Greats Wrestlers That Ever Were not flair Hogan piper there were noting compared to dundee and lawler
They all have their place in history. They put professional wrestling on the map and made it what it is today. They should have whole areanas, fieldhouses, pavilions and city streets named in their honor in my opinion. What say you?
Arkansas Beer reviews I totally agree with you, im from the south and all we knew was WWF as the lead dog, NWA was second and Memphis wrestling was at the bottom of the list but lil did we know that Memphis wrestling was just as big as NWA but I feel that Memphis wrestling just didn't get the tv time as WWF and NWA
3/15/82 CWA Memphis, TN Mid-south coliseum six man tag Match: The Midnight Express (Norvell Austin, Dennis Condrey & Randy Rose) defeated Danny Davis, Steve Keirn & Stan Lane(CWA debut as team / pre Fabulous Ones)
Dundee is absolutely right about the business today. I'm from Boston, born and raised and knew no other wrestling other than WWF. My earliest wrestling memory was Bob Backlund as the Champ and in my neighborhood Bruno SAMMARTINO was a god but what Vince McMahon jr did to wrestling in the 80s and on was destroy it, PERIOD! He turned a great sport into a joke of a circus show. Wrestling will never be good again in America untill Vince dies. When he kicks the bucket, maybe wrestling will have a shot at being relevant again.
I am a big attitude era but I agree with Bill Dundee the reason why wrestling PG back then was so over was because the wrestlers in the promoter or / Booker wanted the fans we was real and the fans believed it was real but nowadays in the PG PG gay era this man is exposed to business so much nobody believes it and now it's like complete b******* and I like listening to old school wrestlers like this because Bill Dundee and other guys are like listening to a wealth of knowledge
It's too bad that Memphis was never covered in the Apter magazines. In NY, we relied on The Wrestling News or other James Melby/ Norman Kietzer magazines every month to follow this area.
Absolutely! I love Bill Dundee, I love old school wrestler shoots, this is amazing bcoz its like sitting inside his home and talking to him one on one, keep them coming, the channel will keep growing!
Evening! Happy Father's Day 2019 to you Rowland Files! Newly minted subscriber to your channel and a longtime professional wrestling fan. Love these Superstar Bill Dundee interviews you've done and posted and can't wait to order Bill's book! Best wishes to the Superstar and his family. Keep up the good work as long as Bill and others want to talk, this stuff is great! Bill Dundee was one of the ones that made my childhood fun, especially on Saturdays. P. S. I recently found out that Bobby Eaton of Midnight Express fame is or was Superstar Bill Dundee's son-in-law, that true?

Dundee was average overall at best!!I grew up watching Memphis,awa,wcw,nwa,wwf,midsouth,ecw,ect...for local talent Lawler, hot stuff,Austin idol,Jeff jarrett,Dutch mantel, fabs, moondogs,Doug Gilbert,Koko,ect....we're all in a different class from Dundee...
Bills, a better worker than those you mentioned, better Booker, better grappler , mat wrestler, and aerial wrestler, and one of the best finish men in the sport, Better psychology, and heal or face, believe that !
Bill Dundee should be in the Hall of Fame. Period.

Bill Should Be in Every HOF, years ago !
ImaFreakin Historian Wrestling doesn’t deserve a HOF.
Great video..One of my favorite wrestlers of All Time!
Bills story keeps changing every interview about it. But it was funny as hell hearing him tell the story.
His story , hasn't changed , NOT one time . He tells it the same everytime . He's telling the truth .
Bill Dundee seems like a cool uncle or something

I wish the interviewer would shut the hell up and let Dundee finish telling the stories. His interruptions are annoying.
at 15:10 bill is standing next to a life sized poster of himself

Bill Dundee is right about Jim Cornette - 38:05
Yes he is.

3/15/82 CWA Memphis, TN Mid-south coliseum six man tag Match: The Midnight Express (Norvell Austin, Dennis Condrey & Randy Rose) defeated Danny Davis, Steve Keirn & Stan Lane(CWA debut as team / pre Fabulous Ones)
Greatest wrestler of all times thank you for all the matches when I was a kid
bill dundee rules.
I would think Jos LeDuc was a tough guy. The guy was scary.
Him, Mad Dog Vachon and most of the old-Schoolers of the day

Fanboys killed wrestling.
no disrespect but every one who grew up in the 70's and 80's know that today's wrestling SUCKS.

Simple psychology Men go where women are, we have biological desires. Thing is you want to go to a place that welcomes everyone. Not loading the deck.

how’s Bills health doing ?
re: "Wrestling is dead", no offense, but, shoot interviews helped that along.
Shoots came along long after it was already dead.
