Austin Idol was one of my all time favorites! I remember going to the coliseum and watching him and Lawler team up against the Road Warriors! Great times!
This is why you must have story lines, just doing a bunch of flips in the ring don't make you a Professional Wrestler, you must be able to tell a story. Please guy's watch angles like this and just copy it with your own angle.
That's why wrestling is crappy now cuz they have story lines back then they made it up as they went along it was way much better and they knew how to make it look real this stuff today looks fake.
That is what this era the Golden Age of Wrestling. Mostly, wrestlers wrestled. And the storylines were more believable and reality based instead of the soap opera storylines you get nowadays. This was when wrestling was truly king.
This is my favorite part about wrestling. I love to see the different angles they worked. I loved how austin idol never took that rag off his head the entire interview
Managing was not Jimmy's only contribution. He did just about everything there was to do behind to scene, including writing many wrestlers theme songs. He was actually friends with just about every wrestler, these three included, and orchestrated facets of many successful careers.
Really. I would've laughed my ass off if I got to see it live back then. But I was only four back then and wasn't into wrestling. And my family and I were still living in Central Florida at the time and didn't get CWA Wrestling down there. We got NWA and CWF (Championship Wrestling of Florida).
Not meaning to take away anything at all from Lance Russell. He was who I grew up on and he was awesome but I believe the goat is Gordon Solie from Georgia Championship Wrestling.
Memphis had the best angels. So good that WWF used a good bit of them. When Rikishi ran over Stone Cold with a car, first thing I said to myself was Gilbert ran over Lawler with a car in the studio parking lot.
Empty arena match, Concession stand brawls, heel authority figure, and so on....the funny things about the Rikishi running over Stone Cold angle was at the time it supposedly happened Rikishi was wrestling on a card for Memphis Power Pro a JR Smooth.
I think very highly of Mr. Gordon Solie. However there are times that Lance Russell was better. He was more suited for the Memphis lunacy for certain. Total topnotch Southern Gentleman yet believably capable of threatening Tojo Yamamoto with a hammer as well. His Face Commentator had a hard edge at times that Mr. Solie couldn't sell credibly.B.W.

Jimmy and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan were the best managers and talkers in the business back then, hands down. And they knew how to get under everybody's skin so bad, that the fans loved it when they got their comeuppance. I couldn't stand them, but I was thinking how great they were on the mic and how great they were at their jobs. They both knew the psychology of wrestling real well and used it to their advantage. Austin Idol is like Rocky Balboa. “Adrian!”
the belt changed hands on a count out?
I believe the Memphis area used AWA rules. And they had titles change under countouts.
That Is A Messed Up Rule Compared To Everyone Else :(.
Same thing i said. In those days the champion kept the belt on a count out
I’ve been there before Jimmy. I’ve been there before.

Such an awesome angle
i dont think jerry ever went to a gym.
Nope. Mullet, goatee, and chest hair = formula for masculinity in west Tennessee in the late '70's.
