I’m from West Tennessee and this was as part of my Saturday mornings as my Saturday morning cartoons. The memories, the good ol days. No such thing as good Saturday morning cartoons anymore and no such thing as good wrestling anymore. That’s when it was great Wrestling at its best.
Spent a good deal of time the past 5 years rewatching and catching back up with these classic Memphis wrestling shows and have to say, Lance Russell is truly the GOAT of announcers
Classic sportscaster voice. Could've done any sport. Would've been world famous if he'd been doing baseball on the radio. As it is, he was perfectly cast as the exasperated normal mortal man just trying to do his job while surrounded by the craziness of professional wrestling and the chaos that inevitably erupts.
RedneckSpaceMan even back then WWF wasn’t as good as this. It was all characters at the top of the card. Beginning in the mid to late 80’s their midcard blew away the top of their card in match quality and characters. Look at DiBiase, Dusty Rhodes, Randy Savage, Curt Hennig, Hart Foundation, etc. The guys they poached from the other companies would CONSTANTLY outperform Hulk Hogan and his monster heel of the week at the top of their card.
This was great. I've developed a love for this territory. As a kid in the 80s all I had access to was Mid Atlantic and Georgia. I've developed a love for 70s, especially 80s NWA Wrestling for 2nd in time in life, thanks to youtube.
I watched this stuff every Saturday. It always amazed me how Dave Brown made up the match times. Dave: 1 minute and 40 seconds after glancing at his watch to sell it. Pure Gold. Too bad Vegas didn't have prop bets on Dave's time calls.
The look on Lance Russell's face listening to Jimmy Hart is priceless. If it had a thought bubble it probably would say "Why couldn't Lawler break his jaw again?"
I remember when Lord Jonathan Boyd brought a snake 🐍 with him. Lance jumped out of his chair in horror. I can still hear him saying, "Will you get that damn snake out of here?!" RIP Lance , you were golden
@@nicoleknight9412 + Yeah, I remember that episode to. Old Lancer didn't like the wrestlers using profanity during their promos but Lance was cursing up a storm over that snake allright.
A lot of the top wrestlers you saw in the WWF/E and WCW in the late 80’s and 90’s started off in these territories, Macho Man, Rick Rude, King Kong Bundy, and The Rock just to name a few all started in Memphis
Somebody somewhere said that Lance Russell was the king of righteous indignation. He never wanted to know how things were supposed to turn out. Wanted to strictly just react. Loved Lance Russell!
To me when Jimmy Hart left Memphis his career in wrestling took a nose dive. He's been a trooper about it all for years and years but his career as villain extrodinaire in CWA took a nose dive. I honestly think Vince McMahon did all he could to get him to New York. Got him there and then didn't know what to do with him once he was their? And rather than say hey Jimmy I made a mistake. Sorry dude. Go back down to Memphis he kept him their, paid well for his mistake and the rest is history. But Hart was at his best in Memphis. Down South period. Classic wrestling moment yet again. Great post!
Jimmy Hart went from being a musician with a hit record group in the 60s to a Hall Of Fame Wrestling manager! True legend in the business. And he still kept up playing his music and created some of the greatest wrestling theme songs in history! He's seen alot and been with the best in the business!

Lol Flair called Dillon Porter Wagner on World Championship Wrestleimg on TBS on time while he was doing an interview and Dillon and Buddy Landell were waiting for their match in the ring.
