  • this is the view you get on the overpass just east of the crew station at Revelstoke. The grainers you see are empties parked in te Revelstoke yard waiting to be taken back east.

      Canada seems to have really adopted the use of DPUs. Most of the long trains I saw on my trip in 2019 had 1 or 2 in place.

      The tracks in BC are maybe the most difficult of North America because of it's many sharp bends and steep grades. The mid DPU's are really needed to get the trains through the mountains. CP #603 even has a double mid DPU

    How long does it take for the 198 to get from Vancouver to Illinois? Does it make any set offs along the way or is it a straight shot?

      I don't know exactly how long it will take, it makes several stops to drop off or pick up cars along the way and i can imagine that has an effect on the time it takes to complete the trip

      @@zeegher I'm pretty sure the drop the trailing unit and the rear dpu in Calgary. Make a switch in Sheppard and one in Minnesota somewhere and then to chicago
