- Part 7 of my trip railfanning in BC featuring Revelstoke as the main focus.
Some history included as well so make sure you have the volume up.

Great video. We enjoyed visiting Revelstoke. Brings back memories from a few years ago. Did you manage to go to Albert Canyon? We had a good time there and found the remains of the houses , not much left of them now.
I did not get to the canyon, I will make another trip this way next year and we’ll try to get that way then

My grandfather was a machinist at the roundhouse in Revelstoke changing treads on steam engines. It's all uphill from Revy.

Geography nerd here: In your intro voice-over, you seem to be saying that the Selkirk mountains are a range of the Rocky Mountains. Or maybe your're simply comparing the reactions that people have of the Selkirks, compared to the Rockies' reactions.
The Selkirks are part of the Columbia group, completely separate from the Rockies ranges, for location & age.
Low Light Mike your very correct, I'm just not trying to complicate things. As your drive west you just continue to be in awe of the mountain ranges.
@@TonyVRailfanning I sometimes simplify the railway situation on Vancouver Island, for the same reasons. The technically correct explanation is way too complicated sometimes. :)

Good video. Excellent shot of the CP freight crossing the bridge beginning at 6:05 and the aerial view of the museum was cool. It would be a nice place to visit someday.

Before the highway through Rogers Pass, the only road access was up along the Columbia to where the Mica dam is, then around what was called the Big Bend and back down along the Columbia to Donald Station to golden. It was only open through the summer
Hard to believe that train access wat the only way to get there in the winter prior to that.
@@TonyVRailfanning The road was in to Revelstoke from three valley gap and west, just that it stopped in Revelstoke for the winter. The railroad came through the way it does now.

Thanks for your work showing the the 2 grades west of Revelstoke. You compelled me to find my copy of "West of the Great Divide" by Mr. Robert Turner. The "Clanwilliam Revision" was completed in 1979, at the same time as the Notch Hill revision (same grade problem for heavy westbound trains.)

Man i dont know what to say more about your videos! Simply amazing, great image,editing...and this at Rev just gave me goose bumps. Im not Canadian im from Europe (Portugal), but i was there in Rev on the 2017 summer and those memories!! Im also a regular visitor of the VRF cam, and sometimes i talk with you guys on the chat. Thanks for the vids Tony!
hey Tony another nice video and a few interesting note the first location was the east end of Illecillewaet which on a number of occasions have had derailments on one of the derailments. grain derailed, and spilled and a very nice sized grizzly made it home for a number of years eating the fermenting grain, and yes he would cross the tracks even in winter to have a feed. Another note in your video the east bound train stops back when meeting a west bound train, west of the slide paths so that less time that is necessary is spent in the danger zone. A number of notes about locations in Revelstoke the switch location just east of the railway museum is Revelstoke and at the east end of the yard where the yard tracks begin is called Woodman and further east is White. The switch location just east of the Columbia River Bridge is Farwell and westbound where the tracks split again is Begbie.

Another wonderful video Tony. I didn't realize that 03N was just east of the signal tree that we're all desperate to see soon and that third track looks even worse from the ground than up in the air. It looks like it's in pretty rough shape. Thanks for taking the time to put this together for all of us. Greatly appreciated 👍

John Frankenfield, thanks. Revelstoke and the area is one of the most picturesque areas I've been to.
I travelled from Montreal to Vancouver by train and back in 1968, when regular passenger trains were common. I wanted to see Canada. I did, although most took the plane even then. It was a memorable experience. Your videos bring back some of that experience years later. Thanks a lot Tony. You're doing a great job.

Nice videos Tony, but I find the music and the picture in picture really take away from the overall effect.
Alco 424 thanks for your opinion. Remember that a drone does not have audio so if I only have a drone shot it would be silent. I’m trying different techniques to refine my edits so I’ll keep your thoughts in mind
@@TonyVRailfanning I would use stock train noise over music any day. I'm sure a train sound track could be found.
