Yesss, I've been following the creators on this project. I'm so excited for affordable full body tracking. I think this will be a huge game-changer for VR.
Well now you can do it for free. You just need a printer to print some papers and a way to put them on your leg, some software stuff (it uses AprilTags), a camera (or phone, there is both wired and wireless setup) and some other black magic fuckery, as well as some calibration (but what fullbody doesn't need calibration?) Looking forward to these. There's another reviewer of these trackers called Thrillseeker who got his test set before Phia did here and had certain problems that have since then been fixed relatively fast. When these finally get into our hands in the following months after pre-orders are made, I'd imagine there will be a lot of consumer friendly tweeks made to it and bug squashing so that they will be pretty quality for their price.
One thing that might have helped early on: While the process varies greatly, you can name both the 2.4 and 5Ghz signals separately (ie Xfinity2.4/Xfinity5). Some service providers have tried to dumb things down so much that you actually have to call them to turn on this capability. I had the same issue with a bunch of smart bulbs and outlets.

The drift reminds me of the same issues we get with Perception Neuron and Xsens in Motion Capture. Xsens have gone as far as incorporating Vive tracking so that a single Vive sensor to stops the Xsens sensors from drifting.
maybe adding a single vive tracker compatiblity or a camera (something to look for a dot or color) would stop the drift? like, not mandatory for use, but the compatibility option would be nice
I will absolutely buy SlimeVR. 100% that tracking looks so much better than what I have right now. (An Xbox kinect.) I'm so excited and plan on building my own trackers. (P.S. It was a pleasure meeting you PHIA sorry that I fangirled so much. 😁)
The price is well worth it from what it seems. When it comes to the repetitive setup, one could automate it with scripts and share it with the community, if you are savvy enough.
It probably should be mentioned that since this video dropped the slimevr server got updated a bunch and has a "auto skeleton" update which helps with drift/calibration A TON. You can see vids now where users have their trackers tuned in to the point they are grounded 100% as well as vive trackers
My fiancé and I have been wanting to get into VR for a while now, but ease of use and the fact we live in an apartment are our main concerns. This is fantastic looking, but we may wait for more bugs to be ironed out. Looks great though, gonna keep an eye on this. Thank you, Phia!
I'm even too broke for slimevr atm and not to mention I'm not much of a tech head so it'd be difficult for me to setup if it remains this way but as it is still in development I'm sure it's getting easier so I guess waiting to grab some won't be a bad thing. They're definitely in my radar, thanks for the info PHIA and thanks for the product Eiren! You're making the vr community better and it'll be more active and simply ALIVE

Set up and gui was put on hold if I recall so production of the product wouldn't have to be put on hold. Software can always be updated during production. And even after. But delaying organizing production would only lead to a delayed product with no benefits
This is really interesting to me, I'll be interested in trying something like this one day, but for now I'm fine with waiting to see how it evolves as it's finished up and such. As a quest 2 user, and someone without room for a base station (which is why I went with the quest honestly, PC wise I can somewhat handle a heavier headset), this is what I've been waiting to see
I can't wait till they work all the bugs out and it gets to being final version. I am really thinking about getting the slime vr trackers down the line. your really good at making a selling point keep up the good work.

hey phea, id be interested in a video on accessibility in vr. i have chronic pain and due to that i have to use a cane, and that doesnt really work well with vr controllers. if i want to play vr, i have to either sit or not use my cane entirely. im sure there are a lot more issues like mine, and itd be nice to see someone talk about them and bring more awareness! :)
I've been using a climbing harness on a swivel mount as a frame for Natural Locomotion (software that translates walking motions to the game) and recently saw a girl with what might be a similar issue. Since then i've been wondering if that setup could provide enough leg support to let you walk without your cane, at least in vr. She was able to walk a short distance and thats what got me thinking. Also have you used a stool or office chair that swivels? Does that work?
oh look it me. yeah I also use a cane due to chronic pain and accessibility can sometimes be a big issue when it comes to VR stuff, if you need to play seated. Big tip if you didnt know already - OVR Advanced Settings (available to download on steam) integrates playspace mover, enabling you set up a controller binding that will drag your playspace around and move you in the game, effectively meaning you can move your hand upwards and bend down in game. Now, actually setting up a drag binding isnt especially easy on Vive for stuff other than VRChat because lack of buttons, but if youre using Oculus or Index controllers you might have a spare button or two free to set the binding for that up.
I will be driving semi-trucks again in 9 weeks, and playing VRC out of the back of my truck. I have another friend who plays VRC with fullbody in his truck too. If these don't take up or hinder our hotspots too much these things can be perfect for playing in the back of a semi truck taking our 10's and 34 resets. They take up less space, wireless with plenty of battery I can comfortably sit under my blankets with them, if they stabilize it and get it to work smoothy I think I might invest into some of these for the truck, and I could keep vive trackers for at home. I'll have my 3 base station set up in the truck anyways but these at least allow me to save a little space, and stay under blankets and stuff.
this is a good thing tbh it saves room, it helps with low budget vr user's, all around its an alt that could use a bit of polish but good for people let the dev know good job and keep up with updates to solve the drift and freezing issues after so it'll sell like hot cakes
I’ve been using a Kinect as my solution as full body tracking and GOSH an affordable full tracking that doesn’t require base stations is a dream come true!!! And then imagine throwing this with virtual desktop , omg full 360 motion would be amazing!!!
I'm getting into slime VR myself and, holy heck as a lot has changed since this video. if you still have these trackers and opinions I highly suggest trying them again, I mean I don't have them but I'm able to set it up with 5 phones or one just for waist tracking now and the GUI is much better too plus this Is now standalone with the quest. I'm just genuinely interested on the new look you'd have on them a year later or would it still be the same?
Just not having to deal with base stations in a room is a big enough perk to overlook some shortcomings, even ignoring price. I also wonder how versatile it will be for animators. Could I possibly even make a dog model in blender, place trackers on my friends dog and get useful tracking data from that if I was making an animation?
I think I want to wait a few years and see how SilmeVR develops. I know it's only gonna get better and if ever they reach the point of a "plug-and-play" setup, I will fork over my meager funds so fast. I'm finding it hard enough to set up the kinect budget option.
The SlimeVR tracking calibration set-up reminds me quite a lot of the calibration that The Technician goes through to set up CodeMiko before she streams. It's a similar sort of thing, but the SlimeVR units are much cheaper, use wifi, and are probably a lot less robust. From watching SlimeVR demo videos the software setup process can/will be streamlined. They seem to be in the process of getting the main tracking bugs sorted out first before making it easier to use. That seems pretty reasonable to me.
with slimevr u can get a full 20hours battery life just by instead of using there trackers through there software you can use switch joycons and its not as easy as I saying it is but there's multiple videos on youtube on how to do it and u can also buy a switch controller docking station what u can charge all ur controllers at the same time
This is a good option for me. I like to play in various spots in the house due to lack of space in my room so setting up base stations really isn’t an option, not to mention it would be a massive pain. I don’t mind having to fiddle with software or having slightly less accurate tracking if it’s more affordable and I don’t have to deal with base stations, not to mention the portability.
Technically, the base station compatible hardware use in-to-out tracking like the quest. The base stations are markers the the VR hardware use to track their own positioning. So, the problem isn't the base stations losing sight, it's the hardware losing sight of the base stations.
I was this close to blow my wallet to get HTC Vive trackers and base stations. but as i look on your video, it wow me alot. this save my money alot more.
You know if anyone is doubting these you do have to consider this is VERY early and has been receiving tons of tweaks so the freezing and drift will likely get fixed by full release. For something similar or close to vive with only 2 major cons that will likely get fixed and cost less than $300 instead of $600+...that's pretty damn good...
As someone who loves making things and has a 3D printer, I can't wait till the software matures enough so I can confidently invest in making the hardware myself :)
Sure I might be a little biased since I have already chosen StonX. But anyway this isn't really review ready yet, setup is just too much at the moment and calibration is way too frequent something I hope they will fix when they do the launch. But when it does get fixed I can see a huge potential in Slime. Small places, ppl that sleep with blankets on in VR etc. Future for FBT looks great!
Wonder if SlimeVR is gonna incorporate TransPose code to reduce drift. It solves many problems the NOITOM perception neurons have with drift and can apply to pretty much all IMU's.
I think slime vr still needs some software tweaking but in the long run I think using gyros and motions sensors is the way to go with full body tracking.
I'm hoping they release an APK for SlimeVR so that the whole setup can be done on the Quest itself, rather than requiring a PC (You'd probably still need to connect your phone to it, but still, me and every other Quest 2 user without access to a good PC would really enjoy this idea)
hey, a couple months back you said you were going to review the tundra trackers If you made the video already I can’t find it, but if you haven’t got them yet when do you think you’ll be able to review them ??
At first I was just going to rough it out and buy Vive trackers and basestastions until I found out about these a while ago. They're a lot cheaper and on top of that I wont need to worry about sleeping without a cover (my room is very cold), and another thing If I were to damage my SlimeVR FBT I could easily replace it (I don't plan on intentionally breaking them).
I got to get full body Tracking and a better headset I just got the original quest 1 2 weeks ago. And this is my new favorite channel you are to cute in VR and irl.
whata the best affordable vr-ready laptop for a short time use? wanting my full body so bad but cant affort both that and a pc this year, does anyone have any links/suggestions for a vr-ready laptop?
Something that can make it easier is having a wifi receiver capable of using 10 device at the same time (that is measurable by the amount of data can recibe tho) and trying to use all device with a 5GHz connectiong (if it has one tho, cause I don't see that in the specs).
i wonder if thered be a way to get these to be standalone, connecting to the headsets wifi or bluetooth. if that happens itd be a great alternative to expensive full body tracking.
Oml I legit have to share a room and legit have no room for base stations so it's amazing to know that when I can buy a set up I can maybe afford this!!
$200 vs $700 could mean so much for all of us and the future of VR 😭💖

Hey nice, same thought here. I also use Blender a lot for modeling and animation, would love to know this!
SlimeVR needs a few absolute position sensors as reference. (The headset and hand-controllers).
I doubt the dog would like the headset.
Hey Phia glad to see another video
Now if I could just get a video card at retail cost I'd be all set 😂
That seems pretty reasonable to me.
with slimevr u can get a full 20hours battery life just by instead of using there trackers through there software you can use switch joycons and its not as easy as I saying it is but there's multiple videos on youtube on how to do it and u can also buy a switch controller docking station what u can charge all ur controllers at the same time
The intro animation gives me PS2 vibes and I love it.
So, the problem isn't the base stations losing sight, it's the hardware losing sight of the base stations.
i sleep alot in vr, so ill be able to cover up without spazzing out. so it's a definite yes.
Thank you for informing us about this and even explaining how to get it working!
I love SlimeVR and dint know you where gonna make a review
thanks for the information phia!
YOU DID IT! I really wanna know more about SlimeVR
I've given up on my dreams of full body tracking and pcvr as even after two years I have not even come close to have enough, great video though.
As someone who loves making things and has a 3D printer, I can't wait till the software matures enough so I can confidently invest in making the hardware myself :)
These are going to change the game. Kinect is already cheap full body but this.. this takes the cake
how do you only have 121k subs- i dont know how you dont have MILLIONS
Budget tracking!? a lot of time!? Sounds like SlimeVR is for this guy!
holy cow that's some dedication
Sure I might be a little biased since I have already chosen StonX. But anyway this isn't really review ready yet, setup is just too much at the moment and calibration is way too frequent something I hope they will fix when they do the launch. But when it does get fixed I can see a huge potential in Slime. Small places, ppl that sleep with blankets on in VR etc. Future for FBT looks great!
Wonder if SlimeVR is gonna incorporate TransPose code to reduce drift. It solves many problems the NOITOM perception neurons have with drift and can apply to pretty much all IMU's.
Love your videos and presentation style!
it would be nice to see if they are to update their programmes to for setting up and such also being able to connect through 5ghz wifi
i really hope Eiren manages to fix the frezzing and drifting atleast a bit! if it doesnt happen too often, im definetly buying them
I am a VIVE COSMOS user witch is also a insideout tracking headset and this is the thing im waiting for
I think slime vr still needs some software tweaking but in the long run I think using gyros and motions sensors is the way to go with full body tracking.
I’ve seen one called the haritoraX for oculus that is also cheap. I love how technology is advancing.
Opensource is the lifeblood of VR
I'm curious how this will stack up with the StoneX cookie trackers.
Thank you sooo much! I have been looking for full body trackers that aren't like 700 dollars or smth-
But do they work with oculus?
After 5 month's it has been improved A LOT. You can see it in newer video's about SlimeVR (like my video's) 😯
I am getting Slime VR here but gotta wait for mine but I am in the Backer slot so should get mine soonish.
whata the best affordable vr-ready laptop for a short time use? wanting my full body so bad but cant affort both that and a pc this year, does anyone have any links/suggestions for a vr-ready laptop?
Can we just acknowledge the fact that she is somehow managing to make different faces in VR while changing her voices pitch?
Something that can make it easier is having a wifi receiver capable of using 10 device at the same time (that is measurable by the amount of data can recibe tho) and trying to use all device with a 5GHz connectiong (if it has one tho, cause I don't see that in the specs).
i wonder if thered be a way to get these to be standalone, connecting to the headsets wifi or bluetooth. if that happens itd be a great alternative to expensive full body tracking.
Oml I legit have to share a room and legit have no room for base stations so it's amazing to know that when I can buy a set up I can maybe afford this!!
Sounds like an opportunity for programmers to automate most of the setup process, since it sounds to be duplicating information across devices.
which bean bag did you buy? I'm thinking about adding one to my VR setup
i might need to get a job if I want this which I really do thank you doing this!!!!
The drift is almost definitely caused by how clogged up the 2.5ghz wifi channels are almost everywhere you go. They need to add 5ghz wifi.
