Condolences. I always liked what he did on the Beatin' The Odds album. In particular, the vocals on the song The Rambler blew me away. DJB was a great front man, and certainly had a style all his own, but he couldn't SING like that. Sailor and Penthouse Pauper were great too. None of that really matters when you lose your friend, but he did leave some musical legacy that's still being enjoyed by people and that is no small thing. Lots of musicians never get to do that.

Peavy amps. The best amp to ever come out an man’s basement in Meridian Mississippi, back in the day. I’m partial to Fender Tweed tubes, peavy is a great piece of equipment though. Also Steve Holland one of the most underrated guitarists of his time. Every member is gone. RIP.

I was at this concert at the now demolished Capital Centre. The place was packed. This was right around the time DJB left the band and the public was largely unaware. When the band came out and started playing with Jimmy as lead singer everyone was like wtf is this guy. You could feel the tension in the arena. Finally Dave grabbed the mic and said this is our new singer Jimmy y'all show him so love and from then on everyone had a great time. I vividly remember Boogie No More. The crowd went nuts. The date is wrong. It's 6/24/80. Also the arena was located in Landover not Largo.

    Here be the songs--
    ONE MAN’S PLEASURE
    CROSSROADS
    BOOGIE NO MORE (requisite encore)
    And what a lineup--
    Jimmy Farrar: vocals
Dave Hlubek: lead guitar, slide guitar, rhythm guitar
Steve Holland: lead and rhythm guitars
Duane Roland: lead and rhythm guitars
    Banner Thomas: bass
    Bruce Crump: drums, percussion
The audience in Largo, Maryland were in for a treat. Those rowdy rednecks from Jacksonville, Florida were full of Southern goodness as they played nearly two hours of Dixie-fried heavy metal and showed those Marylanders who’s who and what’s what. Made those people want to move to the Sunshine State and hear some real rock-and-roll music instead of James Taylor tunes. Thanks to Tom Nitzsche for unearthing this concert footage and uploading it on RUclips. Hope there’s a lot more of this concert show.

Awesome upload! This is my "stoppin' ground" I remember it! It used to be the Capital Center back then. I've seen ALLOT of shows there including my first time at Pink Floyd in '87. Out of the four times I've seen them, the Cap's Center sounded the best. It's still there but I haven't seen anything there in years. Everyone comes now to the Verizon Center in downtown D.C. (which is where I saw "The Wall" but it kinda sucks because the Cap's Center was easy to get in and out of and right off of 495, which, if you know the area, is D.C 's beltway while 695 is Baltimore's. I live in Laurel, right smack dabb in the middle of all three cities, including Annapolis. It's a prime location for concerts and Merriweather Post Pavilion is 10 minutes away. That's where I see most shows unless it's too big like Floyd. Shows of that magnitude require RFK Stadium, which is no longer called that either. Now that's gone and it's called 'Audi Stadium' (?) Uh..ok. Thanks much for a very cool piece of history!

For Jimmy Farrar to step in and take over in the middle of a major tour like that and be successful says a lot for Jimmy.

What a coincidence I just finished listening to my greatest hits Molly Hatchett CD about an hour ago.
This is coming from someone raised in Jacksonville, Florida. When this musical was coming out.
Having said that, I have never heard of this original lead singer, Jimmy Farrer. Interesting.

Danny Joe Brown was as irreplaceable as Ronnie Van Zant, I had a hard time accepting anyone else vocally with these guys, it wasn't as bad on the material he wrote with them but Jimmy singing Danny's songs just didn't work for me 😞

@@tonyhonour665 Considering Danny Joe Brown either got "sick" and left the band or simply got his feathers ruffled and split the band, this is as original as it was going to get. This was ONLY the second f'ing album and DJB left. He was so "sick" to where he started a solo career and recorded and album and toured with it. And the tour was such a disaster that the entire band quit the tour. So Danny came back with his tail between his legs to resume his "bad assness"? I mean the love that Danny got and the lack of loyalty he showed the guys in the band. I mean, I'd like to know the intimate details that caused Danny to leave and then record an album. I'd like to know how the band didn't miss a beat and got a new singer, recorded two albums and toured on them and THEN and ONLY after Danny's career was in the toilet he comes back to the band and delivered about three good songs on No Guts No Glory. I mean people just NEVER tell the truth. Everybody is infatuated with Danny and and his voice and presence and repulsed by Jimmy Farrar's voice and looks. I'm human too and yeah, Jimmy's hard to look at and to listen to. Danny was the man but the "sh!t" nobody ever talks about. It's just, Danny "Good" and Jimmy --- "not the guy".

In 1980 I took a flight down to Jacksonville, got seated by this model type chick named Susi Bee. She was really fucked up on quualudes but was very friendly in a bitchy kinda way. Gave me some 'ludes & told me she was meeting Dave Hlubek at midnight & offered me a ride to the beach home I was going to. she told me the band had fired Danny Joe Brown for shooting coke with his insulin. I thought it was B.S. & I didn't believe her but when we landed there was Dave. (I was front row in Omaha right in front of him so I knew it was the man.) The ride fell thru cause they were heading to a band meeting. Got his autograph tho. Plus free ludes.
