    Reznov's right index finger was blown off in Stalingrad back in WAW. That's why he gave his sniper rifle to Petrenko because he could no longer use it. However every time Mason hallucinates seeing Reznov, including in Afghanistan, he has all 10 fingers.

    Sometimes I feel like the Mason living ending was a last minute decision or was never 100% intended by Treyarch. Everything about it is so coincidental and strange, like Woods choosing not to shoot (who he believes to be) Menendez and Mason just being missing for 30 years with zero explanation. I think the Woods and David at Mason's grave cutscene at the end adds just the right amount of melancholy to a mostly good ending, and highlights the losses and sacrifices war brings. I think "this is the price we pay for what we do" and David choosing to walk away from being a soldier is a stronger ending than Mason just appearing and cracking a joke with Woods and talking to his son about the time he fell off a tree.

    • @channel45853
      @channel45853 3 месяца назад +18

      true, but it is intended as a secret ending, because you are not supposed to think that you can do anything but shoot menendez in the head

      Even if you managed to resist killing kravchenko and collect the CIA document (both of which later will give you hints of not trusting hudson in panama), it still feels weird that both the player and woods could guess that Hudson betrayed them and especially that Mason was about to die in a first playthrough. This is the kind of choice you'd only find out on RUclips or by accident
      The Mason living ending is sweet and all but him dying feels more canon and impactful

    the thing about about Mason being put back into service after Vorkuta is explained in e-mails between Hudson and another guy (cant remember his name) but I can say that many people of the CIA where definitely not happy about Mason being back alive and put into service, Mason also got several warning due to his paranoid behaviour regarding the numbers, Reznov and Dragovich specifically. Mason suffered greatly after coming back into service. The only reason we see mason in "stable" condition is because every mission is about hunting the 3 new targets, Dragovich, Krevchenko, Steiner and only then can Mason actually focus because he is following the number sequence.
    The numbers that are played while Mason sees Reznov can also be translated into information/lore

    I think the implication is that mason did kill jfk due to the numbers but didnt align himself with the russians due to his will. Steiner says that his will is too strong to be fully indoctrinated into the numbers and dragovich just leaves him at vorkuta bc hes too unpredictable. Thats why reznov was able to manipulate the numbers into new targets. So mason carried out the numbers programming like dragovich wanted but didnt get fully brainwashed (he didnt even learn that there were other projects like nova 6 and the russians had sleeper agents embedded in the US.

    You put into words EXACTLY what I feel about the BO series. BO1 hooked me and is my personal favorite COD to date, but the storyline and plot that started in the first BO never reconciled as I expected. BO2 was such a weird sequel that it went parallel halfway through and did a whole future warfare arc with another villain. Again when BOCW rolled around, it went and did its own thing, rarely addressing the multiple mysteries surrounding BO1. There were teases throughout the sequels, but it was always the Mason and Reznov story that intrigued me. I feel like there's a whole chunk of game missing in between the events of BO1 and BO2 that should tie up the loose ends.

    Archetype? Revive to a previous bodily state? 115!
    I'm putting my money on the zombie first leaking into the main campaign first, cuz it's basically already doing that in Modern warfare 3, and the Russians are trying to recreate Richtofen's work. Reznov must have been a test subject before he ever had a chance to escape. I've heard of something like this happening in the CoD mobile comics, but I did not expect them to bring this to the main campaign universe.

    Man I would love to make a video explaining what I think probably happened with Reznov and Alex Mason, but I’m going to try to explain it here.
    So from a storytelling perspective, usually we cannot say a character dies until we see that character actually die. Think about times in movies or shows where we are told that a character has seemingly died, only for them to reappear. I think this could very well apply to Reznov as we never do see him die. Now let’s discuss him showing up in the desert. So from WaW to BO2 (and possibly BO3, but I do not remember) revenge is a reoccurring theme in the stories of those games. I believe that Reznov serves as a symbol of revenge or a need for revenge. Reznov appears in BO1 because Mason still believes that the three antagonists from BO1 are alive. Reznov must have his revenge. This is why we see him in BO2. Once Alex Mason sees that Kravchenko is still alive he starts to hallucinate again and see numbers. Once Kravchenko is killed the numbers go away and we can assume that Mason should no longer hallucinate. Now you might be asking, “Well how can he be hallucinating Reznov in the desert if he sees that Kravchenko is dead?” And the answer is that he isn’t hallucinating that. That is truly Reznov. There is no reason for Mason to see Reznov anymore with the death of all three antagonists. Now why is Reznov out there? We will probably never know. It all depends on what the writers decide.
    And to touch on where Alex had gone after he is shot by Woods. This is more theory based, but I believe that either Reznov or someone else took him from Panama or wherever Mason’s unconscious body might’ve ended up. Someone else who could’ve taken Mason is a character that is noticeably absent from BO2: Weaver. Now I know that people are going to say that he shows up in Cold War and all that, but keep in mind that the people who wrote for Cold War did not write the story for BO1 and BO2. They just decided to use a left over asset and make up their own story. For this theory I’m excluding anything post BO2. Now it’s possible there might be a connection between Mason’s two Russian allies and they form an alliance. I’m not sure what their plan was, but they decided Mason was going to be a part of it. Now where did Mason actually go and what did he do during BO2. I firmly believe that if the writers for BO3 wanted to write the story they wanted to write, they would’ve went over what happened to Mason during BO2. I think BO3 might have the same theme of revenge in that game’s campaign, but I don’t think it’s a natural continuation of BO2. Also in BO2 the campaign has multiple endings. I don’t think the developers/writers would want to take anything away the choices that many players had made. They would more likely have left the ending up to each individual (hence why they would’ve just made a story surrounding the events before BO2 and not after). While I’m not sure exactly what the writers would’ve wrote for that hypothetical BO3 game, I’m sure they would’ve done something along the lines of Mason playing the long game with Menendez. Keep in mind that Menendez had his plan in full motion starting in the 1980’s all the way up to 2025 where he ultimately failed/succeeded depending on the players decisions. Whatever Alex Mason would’ve done during that time would probably have been something that would ensure that Menendez went through that plan. Or more likely that Mason wanted Menendez to go through with his plan so Mason stayed in the shadows.
    And that is my theory on everything. Awesome video by the way. I didn’t know about those John Trent emails. Super interesting stuff that I could probably go on about forever.
    Also one last thing. In relation to Reznov being a symbol of revenge, the AK-47 pack a punched on Mob of the Dead turns into Reznov’s Revenge. And this is more vague in my mind but I believe there is something written somewhere in the BO3 zombies map Gorod Krovi that states something about Reznov wanting revenge. I could go into more detail about Reznov and revenge but I will end it here. Thank you.
