Thanks to your videos, at 58 years old, I tried my hand at fly fishing for the first time this week. Made every mistake you said I would. Cussed a bit, then regrouped. Finally got a bite before calling it a day. That was enough to inspire me to go at it again this weekend. Thanks for your no nonsense video lessons!

Third thing: Turn off the car alarm😂. I love your videos! Great advice. I practice in strong winds whenever I can, then when its calm, castings a breeze (😑I know that was dull). But really have caught lots of fish on windy days🎣 Thanks for helping us get better!

I'm looking behind me all the time! Those trees seem to sneak up on me when I'm not looking! But as in archery, you need to focus on your target if you want to hit it.

I'm brand new to fly fishing - and have yet to cast my first time - but noticed in the videos you are pulling the line with your non-casting hand.. but have not yet mentioned what you are doing with that pulling and releasing.... is that a tension on the line thing? Just asking so I know what that off hand should be doing there. Thanks. These videos have been very helpful so far

Some good stuff. When I first started with Flip back in the day he told me it would take 16 hours of practice for my mind and body to respond correctly. I don't know how he came up with that ? Another thing I did way back then was to practice with my eyes closed and just feel the rod load. Your thoughts ?

Great video, I've watched the entire "Getting Started Fly Fishing" series as well as the "Fly Casting" series. Can you go into more detail about what you're doing with your left hand from about the 1:08 mark until the 1:15 mark? I've noticed you "pulling" and "releasing" the line like that in several of the videos. I'm guessing this helps in getting the line travelling faster.

  • @neosovereign5954

So... quick question... at several points in the video I paused and checked, and it appears as though the line is falling below the tip of the rod. Particularly with the TFO Office Rod. I've noticed this with my own practice casting as well. Instinctively, it seems like the line is falling faster than it's moving forward and makes me want to move the rod faster, but I'm not sure this is the right call. Can you perhaps explain what I'm seeing? THANKS!!!
