In November of 2018, I visited India for the second time in less than a year to experience more of the country’s delicious food and fascinating culture. I can’t get enough of this gorgeous country!

Even though my friend Sam and I arrived in Pune around sunrise on zero hours of sleep, we explored throughout the morning and day with our new friend Dharmesh and kept it going with an epic nighttime street food tour of JM Road that I’ll never forget. Join us as we cap off our first day in Pune in the best way possible: by stuffing our bellies with some mouthwatering Maharashtrian food!

Here are the amazing foods Sam, Dharmesh, and I ate on JM Road!
- Masal Puri
The first thing we tried was the colorful Masal Puri, which is made up of puris (hollow, unleavened, deep-fried bread balls) that are topped with a hot masala gravy containing puffed rice, green peas, chili powder, chaat masala, garam masala, coriander powder, and more, along with onions, tomatoes, coriander leaves, and crunchy chickpea noodles called sev. It was fresh, crunchy, and bursting with spices without being spicy-hot.
-Pani Puri
Next, I had to go for one of my favorite dishes from my first trip to India, Pani Puri, a traditional Maharashtrian dish that consists of a puri that is punctured and then filled with a delicious, minty soup or sauce that contains chili, tamarind chutney, chaat masala, chickpeas, onion, and potatoes. It exploded in my mouth and was every bit as flavorful as I remembered!
-Sponge Dosa
Our next food conquest was the sponge dosa, also known as the set dosa, a type of Indian pancake or crepe which gets its name from its soft, light, and spongy texture. It was served with a spicy tomato-garlic chutney, a tropical mint-coconut Chutney, and a potato mash. The tomato-garlic chutney was so hot, I needed to go back to the mint-coconut to cool my mouth down! The sponge dosa is my favorite dosa I’ve ever had!
-Tawa Pulao
With my stomach ready for more outstanding Indian street food, we continued along JM Road and found some Tawa Pulao, a spice-filled fried rice dish that is cooked on a flat grill called a tawa and contains green peas, onions, tomatoes, and pav bhaji masala powder. The rice wasn’t too soft, kind of al dente, and the dish itself wasn’t overbearingly hot. It reminded me of a Chinese rice dish, but with Indian flavors, and was absolutely delicious.
-Buttermilk
The final thing we tried on our nighttime street food tour of Pune was a refreshing, creamy, spiced buttermilk drink that is made from yogurt, masala, and various spices. The milk is strong, rich, and pure, with a hint of the various spices inside it. It was the perfect way to cool down and settle our stomachs after a long night of eating spicy foods!

I am glad you are doing Pune. It gets lost in Mumbai's shadows but it has a different vibe than Mumbai. And its so beautiful n green and hilly.

Dude, it looks like you had the most epic first day in Pune possible! Crazy to think that all of the India videos you've released from this trip so far were just the first day. The Masal Puri looks so fresh, colorful, and delicious. I'm definitely going to have to try it someday. I know how much you loved Pani Puri the first time you tried it earlier this year and the way you always describe it really makes me want to try it, too! But I have to say, that sponge dosa looks like the star of this food tour. It looks so soft and light and the chutneys you had with it, especially the mint-coconut one, look and sound mind-blowingly good! Haha, my mouth is watering just looking at it! And the Tawa Pulao looks heavenly, too. I'm glad you guys found the buttermilk afterward so you could cool down your mouth and stomach! Awesome video, dude. You are seriously killing it! This series has been unreal so far and it has barely begun. You are incredible, my friend, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us!

Indian food no matter how spicy it is when it comes to Chaat like paani puri etc, it's feels heavenly; pure sin Pune best & better place for pamperin yourself indulge in even you can enjoy there snacks lunch & dinner joints too it's damn good you should really check it out. Just love Pune.

Dave!!! Love the vlogs. Just a quick info bite... the buttermilk is actually diluted live natural yoghurt. Obviously derived from milk but the buttermilk moniker is misleading. Known as chhaas in gujerat its a counter to the spices consumed in India and an essential coolant in hot regions.
It's my city you were at jm road that is jangli Maharaj Rd. There is a foodie lane by the bridge. Had you seen it
