I lived/worked in Pune on and off for over a decade as a bodyguard. It is my favorite Indian city by far and one of my favorite cities in the world (I've worked in over 51 countries). We came back right before covid, it feels like forever now, and seriously miss so many of our friends there. Can't wait to go back.
I really proud of you because you called pune's name properly.. Thanks for that.. And Maratha empire ruled almost old Bharatvarsh area .. Being Punekar I love my country Bharat and love my city Pune.. Love you both
I’m from Mumbai but Pune is my favourite city in India! Have loved it since childhood. Something about the place just makes me want to come back again and again. Pune is the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Lovely city and great people!
@النبي الاغنوستيك If Compared to other big cities in India, Pune is neither too hot or cold like Delhi, nither humid like Mumbai and Chennai. I lived 6 years in Pune and as a north Indian I appreciate how clean and environmental friendly this city is.. Honestly as a North Indian I liked only Vada Pao, Pao Bhaji and Mastani-falooda special Icecream there as a local food but the most lovable thing about Pune is weather.. go there in Monsoon season between June-September, you will love the weather. Eating Vada pao and drinking chai besides the Pune-Lonavala highway, I still can't forget🥰🥰 Best City for living.
Pune used have great weather just like Bangalore, and due to rapid & unplanned construction it is becoming a messy city just like Bangalore....I hope both of these cities solve their problem and become great again
Pune has become a deteriorating city with its vegetation reduced by 70% since 2008, with ever-increasing traffic without a local rail network, and unlike Mumbai, it's no longer a cosmopolitan city. Its prime was in 2010, back then it used to be like what Navi Mumbai is today
You're right Karl, Pune has been one of the most livable cities in India for a very long time. People from Mumbai often settle down in Pune because of its weather and highly inclusive culture.
Although I'm a Punekar so I'm biased but the best description of Pune was from a colleague who had shuttled for work between other major cities in India before settling here. He said 'Pune is big and small at the same time. 8th largest metro in the country with an IT base and great educational institutes, vibrant night life and a superior value of living which is what you expect from a Tier 1 city(which Pune is) but when u need it, it manages to give you spaces within itself in the form of gardens and forts and cosy little lanes and bylanes which makes u wonder whether you're in a metropolis at all'...
As a Punekar i appreciate you guys coming to Pune and showing that if you come to India, Mumbai, Kerala, Goa,Delhi are not only the places you should visit, love from Pune 💗
I'm from Mumbai but living in Pune since the last 6 years and absolutely love it here..as you said it's more clean , green and has better weather..you should try to visit Lonavala a hill station which is nearby..you will love it!
Loved the video 🥰. As a Brazilian who has been living in Pune for 12yrs, you've shown and described "my city" in a very inspiring, endearing and eloquent way. And it was just the tip of the iceberg. It has got caves, temples, universities, galleries, industries museums, and it is surrounded by amazing hills and beautiful nature. Next time, drop me a message, and I'll gladly show you more about this paradisiac, progressive and growing city.
The best thing about Pune and Mumbai are the forts and trek in the outskirts. It becomes bright emerald green during the rains in the western ghats, so beautiful and mesmerising!
Being born and brought up in Pune and living here for about 25 years I am so happy to see this video and loved what our city could offer to you guys and how much you two enjoyed it! Loved it! Jai Maharashtra!

I studied in Pune and absolutely love the city, the food and the weather there. This video was really special and nostalgic for me as it brought back fond memories. I have been to all the places you showed and more. I feel it's a student friendly city (Pune University, COEP, MIT, Bharati Vidhyapeeth, NIFT, FTII and many more centres of education are located there) and there is so much to do in and around the city. I wonder if you have been to Mulshi dam. I am now based in Boston, USA in another university town. Jai hind!
There are many more places to visit in Pune one can consider visiting/ exploring: 1. Sinhagadh fort 2. Mahadji Shinde chhatri 3. Khadakwasla Dam 4. Nilkantheshwar 5. Shaniwar wada 6. Kelkar museum 7. Mulshi dam (about 30-40km away from city)
I myself am a Punekar. I am very proud of my city. At the start of the video I l knew that you were going to fall in love with the city. Pune is a city that doesn’t leave you until you love it!! Jai Hind!! Jai Maharashtra!
I am from Uttarakhand located in the North . I am into IT and hence live in Pune . I have made many job changes untill now , the only criteria i have while job change is " the company should have office in PUNE" , man i love this place ❤
which area do you stay in pune, as I stay in pcmc area and new to pune, I find local here very hostile to other place people, even maharashtrian from other places are discriminated.
been living in pune since 7 years(now in gujarat ) , this city just cant be described in words , pune will always gonna carry a special place in my heart ! I can clearly remember each and every place you visited , thank you so much karl and manisha for this nostalgic trip
I am Punekar. However out of Bharat for last 25 years. People in Pune are unique and unlike anywhere else. City of lots of well known colleges and students. Now the city has changed drastically since I lived here. Every alternate person is migrated from other town or state.
I was bought up in Delhi (17 years of schooling ) but I moved to Pune 11 years back for work and absolutely love the place. I now call this city home 🏡 and the funny thing is I am originally from Kerala 😂
Hey! You should first do the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur). Then if it’s summer, head up to a hill station like Shimla. Or Leh in Ladakh. If it’s winter, head down to South Goa or further down to Kerala for the beaches. This is a good introduction to India.
Thank you very much.. You are so brave... I admire you so much... Just going to a different country with totally different culture. And you fully got adapted to there is amazing.. absolutely.. you and your wife have such big hearts. you both are very kind and deserve the best..@@KarlRock
It depends on what your interests are and how adaptable you are to South East Asian conditions and to the climate. I am very much concerned with hygiene and cleanliness so as a general rule I prefer the South and the East of India to the North and the West (yes I know it is a huge generalisation to make but I am not the only one who holds this opinion plus as the saying goes : "there is no smoke without fire"). All of India is fascinating and I visited "only" 11 states so far. My personal favorites are : 1) Karnataka (especially the hill stations and the small towns on the hills and mountains). 2) Tamil Nadu (especially historical cities such as Tiruchirapalli and Madurai). 3) Goa (Come with a partner you really love and you will enjoy it even more). 4) West Bengal (Kolkata is a shopping mecca for anything and everything you never knew you wanted and it has a unique vibe. There is also beautiful scenery to explore such as Darjeeling).
My family and I just moved here to India and we LOVE it here!!! Your channel had a big part to play in moving and starting our own videos! Thank you Karl
I've been to India and what sticks in my memory was the heat (central India), the crowds of people and the dirtiness. My son asked me if I would like to go back to India and I told him, "No, because it's too dirty and I don't like crowds (I'm very introverted)." But since watching this video Pune would be one place I'd like to visit. Thank you for making these vids. Keep up the good content creation.
I would suggest that you don't visit India with that snooty prejudice. We wouldn't be bawling our eyes out that lord scukknobbery avoided visiting us with his foreign currency.
I think you have only visited Delhi, and Mumbai only or probably UP. These are the most densely populated areas in India. The rest of the country is like Pune only- less crowd, less traffic, cleaner and greener. Next time visit any 2 tier 3 tier city or a village. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Dear, dirty places are all around the world why you go dirty places. This is also the part of India. But you only want to dirty places it's your problem. No doubt India is a more populated country.
You may have visited only Delhi ,Agra and Jaipur and may be some other places. West and southern India is totally different. If you want to find dirty places they are available in each and every big city in the world. Be it New York or anywhere else. Even in Pune or the cleanest Indian city Indore (in central India) you will find it. Crowded - Yes. For hundreds and thousands of years India was the most populated country. And it still is. No one can do anything with heat. Oct to Mar is the best season to travel in India
Born and brought up in Pune. Moved to the United States for my education and career. Lived in NYC, San Francisco. But had to return back after 5 years for the love of my city. Though the old Pune charm was supreme and has faded with the expansion of the city, this city still is one of the best cities to live in without a doubt due to the weather, educational opportunities, industrial zones and IT Park and safety.
It's such a great city! I used to stay here for my studies and visited this city often in between even after completing my studies over here. I am talking about the period between 2003-2010 and during those days, I swear this city used to be heaven! Really, the weather, the surroundings, and everything else about it used to be so unique and enviable actually..... But now, sadly it has changed very much. It has become so congested..... Everywhere there are flyovers and flyovers and one has to experience long traffic jams even in those flyovers! At that time, this was definitely not the case. People have literally destroyed the hills and beautiful natural surroundings of Pune, just to build their residential complexes or open an educational institution and what not. This city has been heavily urbanised at the cost of sacrificing it's most valuable asset.... It's precious natural surroundings! During my time, in summers temperature went to maximum of 22 to 30 degrees. And in the winters it used to dip to as low as 4 degrees, often! Rainy season used to be lovely over there, with fog all around the massive hills surrounding it. That Pune I remember is lost now. It has become a dream now, which may be, can never be fulfilled now. 😔 Thanks Pune for everything.
You observation is correct. I used to spend my summer holidays here with my mama in early 90s. And as we entered Pune it used to feel like completely different city out of India. Calm, clean and organised. Sadly not any more. Your comment on summer and winter temperature is also spot on. Poorly planned and designed rods and flyovers have spoilt the aesthetics of city.
By reading the comment i can say you are 💯 percent true..iam feeling the same as the pune that i saw before 2009 was different as iam currently staying in pune.i didn't like the place as it was before.leaving soon😔
There needs to be a continuous and constant movement that can motivate people to maintain the city... I still see so many people throwing away trash anywhere. Most of the public toilets are the worst things I have seen. Bus system needs tons of improvements, traffic problems etc. the list is too big.
I love how Manisha corrects your english 😂You say sunrise and she says sunset! Love you both very much and I'm so happy to see you back in your element!!
As a Punekar, I loved the way you introduced our city! I see your videos but this time, You won my heart! Also, I recommend you to come near Gadital bus stand and Tulshi Baug You'll find so many things in cheap rates The restaurants I suggest you are Shourya Wada, Garden Gate If you want a good cake shop I recommend Bangalore Iyangar Bakery. They are so tasty cakes I really love them Also best pizzas you'll find in New Poona bakery Hadapsar I don't recommend you to go in a local auto-rikshaws the rates are higher as compared to Olla and Uber. They are amazing! Thanks for reading! 💖( if you actually did )
It's in Urban Maharashtra that they love pav after 1950s , but befor they used to love Pohe, Bhakari made up of Jowar, Bajra , Nachni. Also in Pune you can find best Non veg food, and it tastes Good with Bhakari. Many Maharashtrian avoid Pav
I am from MP, I have been in pune around 6 years..Most beautiful city I have ever seen.. Fantastic weather..Clean city..Best city to live in but in 6 years weather has changed drastically because of uncivilized encroachment..I am not living in pune but still want that H1B visa should be compulsory to get entry in pune to save the greenery and calmness otherwise the day is not far that it will become banglore
@@mohamedhithayatullahq6253 from my experience. Most people are fluent in Hindi and Marathi, some people only know Marathi but I have met rarely many like that. Then most people then understand broken English but a lot of places like restaurants people have good knowledge of English.
Amazing Vlog Karl. Just a correction, Pune is Tier 1 city and the only Metro in India which is not a state capital. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaz were the ruler of India and the empire spread to present day Pakistan. You should live in Pune west, which is well connected to Pune Bangalore Highway as well as Pune Mumbai expressway. It’s the city if hills, wherever you roll your eyes, you will see them. It’s also the city with highest Rooftop solar installations in India. There are many posh areas in Pune so do check them out along with historic and old city.
@MarathiMavla noo, in Marathi some letters r pronounced in 2 ways like ज & ज्य (you can understand) ... but when it is written in English it is written as 'j' not 'z' ... basically z is used for झ
@@youthoobuser i understand bro but there are 2 forms of many letters in Marathi the closest to महाराज is z, महाराज with j pronunciation is used in hindi language ! You would know what I'm talking about..
Can't wait to see india for myself this year it'll be my first time going since my mom married a indian man and I too am learning punjabi for when I visit this beautiful country love from the US ❤️
Nice video. I'm from Pune now settled in the US. Bro Shivaji is not just another king. He is the man who ignited the spark for freedom in India. He coined the term Hindavi Swaraj and took and oath to free India all foreign rule aka Mughals. We're a very touchy lot when it comes to our cultural pride. Just as an example, he took an oath of blood on a Shiva linga for Hindu swaraj at the age of 16.
Hey Karl, Pune is known for its good weather all year long, especially winter. But you missed the core Pune area. It is a must-visit area in Peths of Pune. And if possible during the Ganpati festival. You would not want to leave this place. The celebration just livens up the whole city. And add Puran poli, Ukadiche Modak to your food list. Love from Punekars.
Pune is heaven for trekkers . It's surrounded by mountain ranges and many great forts of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the vicinity. Do not forget to visit Sinhagad, Rajgad when you come to Pune.
omg brother legit appreciate ur efforts to genuinely understand our city and our country with genuine intrest unlike other people who just judge on the basis of a certain predefined experiences mannn legit apprecitate u brother welcome to india man.....
You and your wife look like good people. Nothing but love for you two to keep making these beautiful videos it allows me to view India, the country I was born in, from the comfort of my desk or phone.
I feel proud as a Punekar that it is being recognized and for sure you will find this city really nice and interesting. I hope you had really good experience and I would've always liked to help you. THANK youuu loads of love from pune❤
It's marathi almost all people use marathi but there are diverse people living in pune who have shifted for work purposes. You can even request them to talk in hindi and most of them will go for it!!! Pune is a really good city and with everything in here I can surely say you will enjoy in this city and feel connected!!!Love from pune❤️
Nice to see you and your wife enjoying the scenery together Karl, that's how memories are created with one and another, great travel the videos, thanks. :)
As a person who's been living in Pune since so many years,i find pune so far the best and very well balanced city.the weather here is easily tolerable;never too hot, never too cold, never too rainy, never too humid indeed very balanced And it's a heaven for someone who prefers to live in a metropolitan city but also likes a countryside touch. No floods,no frequent earthquake or other natural disasters,we have traffic but not as much compared to other metropolitan cities,no water scarcity, top notch educational institutions, greenery,no often power cuts, and the living expenses are not that high too and jyada pollution bhi nahi hai. which is why it's preferred by students to study here. I consider myself lucky 🤌🏼♥️
Wow I'm glad you approved the atmosphere. Looking forward to visiting great India. Thanks Karl and your beutiful wife for putting informative clips. Cheers
Pune has lot of places to explore in city itself, if you wanto explore whole Pune including rural and urban & surrounding areas, then 5 days are also not enough, visit Pune in monsoon, it's the literally heaven on earth...💖✨🙌🏞️
Pune is not only like shaniwar wada , and FC road . One place you must visit when you're in pune is ' Saswad ' You must visit Saswad , July to November is the best time .❤️ Pune is also makes top in the list of most livable city in india .
Jay Maharashtra Karl! It's nice of you to explore only marathi and Maharashtrian food/cuisines because that is the original culture of Maharashtra!!! Respeccc
Pao just means 'bread' in Portuguese. Earlier people used to just eat rotis, but the Portuguese introduced things like potatoes. tomatoes, bread etc, & the entire cuisine changed.
Amazing! Karl, it is such a pleasure to see you in my hometown Pune. Your Vlog is heartwarming, nostalgic and simply fantastic. I can't wait to see more content from Pune. Make sure to visit MG road and the Camp area as well.
Whoever curated the list of food joints for you, hats off to them! They have cleverly chosen the most famous places (but only in true locals and hence we can call them hidden gems). I loved this video.
Capital of Maratha empire was Rajgad, then shifted to Raigad then Satara (Descendants of Ch Shivaji Maharaj stays there) and now its Mumbai and Nagpur. Shanivarwada was house of Pehwa's (Peshwa is one of the positions in Shivaji maharaj's ministry.. like President).. his ministry is called as "Ashta-Pradhan Mandal"
Hi Karl. We had a brief discussion on the Singapore-Mumbai flight last year if you remember. We discussed how the scrambled eggs were mushy :D :D Do visit and include Kolhapur in your Maharashtra tour. A great historic place, with great weather, food, and people.
I am from Himachal Pradesh And when I went to Pune for graduation I was worried that may be Pune won't be clean and environment friendly as my home but I have to say it always gave me home Vibe
So glad I never thought you beautiful couple would visit our Pune City. Thanks for coming to our beautiful city. You miss so many great spots in pune. You should have visited one of the biggest shopping mall here in pune called Phoenix market city. You were actually very close to it but better luck next time. I'm glad you have explored Koregaon park, this is one of the most posh and expensive locations in pune. God bless both of you.
We have been to Pune twice now, we must really stand out as foreigners as we seemed to draw a crowd more so there. Will you be going to the centre of Maharashtra at all? My daughters home state
I won't leave Pune for anything 😀. Also if you're going around Maharashtra you should visit Konkan. It's heavenly 🙂. You'll keep going back there I promise.
@@judithchen5673 yes 🙂 it's the coastal region of Maharashtra so a lot of beaches and indigenous fruits and trees with sustainable lifestyle. It has also been recognised as an eco-sensitive zone with many birds. The same coastal region goes down to southern India and is very beautiful.
I'm from Nashik but living in Pune....yeah Pune is clean , organised compared to other big cities of India...and yes food from streets is crispy, spicy and cheap...Pune is called Oxford of the east coz of its incredible educational institutions and disciplines 👍 Edit - the weather is the best it's convenient that's what I mean(but not as good and cooler than Nashik tho🙂)
One of best part of living in this city is getting out is quick and plenty of mountain hiking, nature filled beautiful areas not too far, to enjoy a quick getaway/trip
@@PoojaChavanMasti Been to Nashik and I liked that city better than Pune. This was in 1998. Roads has zebra crossing, footpaths. I think advantage of that city over Pune is that its downtown is smaller. Pune being former capital of the empire, original city isn't that small with architecture of lanes designed for animals and dwellers with roads made from stone. Its architecture is similar to several European cities, jam packed with housing close to each other with narrow lanes. But Europe has done better job in organizing their traffic. In any Nashik is definitely a nice city imo. Hiking part, pretty much entire Sahyadri is worth hiking and most of towns Pune, Nashik, Sangli, Kolhapur and of course Navi Mumbai will have advantages of being able to get out of city into wilderness very quickly.
1) Durvankur - For authentic Maharashtrian Veg Food. 2) Taljai and Chatrushringi Mandir - Mandir on hilltop, amazing view. 3) Quit India movement was NOT the game changing final episode of Indian Freedom Struggle. 4) Bedekar missal is the sweetest of all missals. Although I'm a Punekar so I'm biased but the best description of Pune was from a colleague who had shuttled for work between other major cities in India before settling here. He said 'Pune is big and small at the same time. 8th largest metro in the country with an IT base and great educational institutes, vibrant night life and a superior value of living which is what you expect from a Tier 1 city(which Pune is) but when u need it, it manages to give you spaces within itself in the form of gardens and forts and cosy little lanes and bylanes which makes u wonder whether you're in a metropolis at all'...
well said

It has got caves, temples, universities, galleries, industries museums, and it is surrounded by amazing hills and beautiful nature. Awesome! I have a question.. What are the best places to visit in India as a tourist? What would be your top 5? 💌
My personal favorites are :
1) Karnataka (especially the hill stations and the small towns on the hills and mountains).

If you come to our city, you are welcome, if you don't come, well, you are most welcome.

I liked how they came to pune rather than mumbai ...
I am puneker and feel proud 👏
Thanks Pune for everything.
Sad but true!
You present our own nation to us in a way no-one ever can & ever will which infact is the way everyone must be seeing this great nation!

Amazing Vlog Karl. Just a correction, Pune is Tier 1 city and the only Metro in India which is not a state capital.
