In September of 2021, I flew up to New York City to dive deep into the food culture of the Big Apple. Come with me as I kick off my culinary adventures with an unforgettable Indian food tour in New York City!
New York is easily one of the most diverse cities in the world in terms of ethnic makeup and food. You can find just about any cuisine in the area, including lots of Indian food spots. For this adventure, I linked up with a local RUclipsr and foodie names Marco!

👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: teespring.com/...
Our tour would take place in the East Village on the island of Manhattan, and kicked off at Punjabi Grocery & Deli. It’s a hotspot for veg food in the East Village! All of the celebrities who have visited have pictures on the wall!
Inside, it’s a mini-grocery store that sells lots of snacks but then they also have prepared chana, fried veg pakoras, samosas, aloo tikki, aloo parathas, kheer, and more!
They also have combo meals! Marco and I went with a combo meal but started with the veg pakora, which is essentially a vegetable fritter. It was so tasty and contained lots of greens.
It was even better with the sweet and glazy tamarind chutney, which had a kick to it. The hot sauce was nice and spicy!
Next was an aloo samosa with a mix of the tamarind chutney and spicy sauce. I loved the smoothness of the potato and was an authentic Punjabi samosa. The crispy outside and green peas, potatoes, and green beans inside were amazing.
Then, we got our combos, the first of which contained chana masala, palak mushroom, and roti. The palak mushroom contained spinach and earthy mushrooms. It was so tasty! The chana masala was creamy and chunky and I loved the roti!
Next were some flavorful black lentils and a cabbage sabzi. It was so good, it felt like I was back in Amritsar! The flavors were insane and the spice in the dishes hits you later.
Our total was $17 for four entrees, two rotis, the pakoras, and the samosa. They only take cash!
Then, Marco and I headed back out to go to NY Dosas, a man who serves up tons of South Indian food from a cart in Washington Square Park. There’s a dog park there and lots of people exercising. It’s the best food cart in New York!
At NY Dosas, we met Thiru, who serves uttapam, idli, dosas, and more. We ordered a masala dosa and another dosa using his grandmother’s recipe.
The Pondicherry Dosa contained masala, potatoes, and vegetables. The Family Recipe Dosa contained 6 lentils, spicy chutney, and coconut. They came with coconut chutney!
The dosas were super airy. The combination of the coconut shavings and coconut chuntey on the Family Recipe Dosa was outstanding! Then, we had some sambar, which contained greens, tomatoes, and potatoes.
The Pondicherry Dosa was gigantic, so we split it. It was savory and spicy with the coconut and spicy chutneys.
Then, we walked 10 minutes to Ambo, which specializes in Indian bowls, similar to Chipotle. There, we met Deep and saw their options. They have tons of options, like basmati rice, raita, chicken tikka, black lentils, aloo, and more.
We ate outside. My bowl contained paneer makhani, black dal, aloo, onions, and a mango pickle chutney. Marco’s contained chicken tikka instead of paneer. We also had some chai, which was like a frothy cafe con leche with cardamom and cinnamon.
My paneer makhani bowl was light and creamy, as everything started mixing together. I loved the black dal and mango pickle chutney. It was super balanced and only costs $11!
We finished with some fresh and cool mango lassi!

Indians makes the best Vegetarian food.
Not just vegetarian 😉😉😉😉
Right
because one day all animals will die because of global warming then you have to eat only vegetables
We have around 30% of our population veg, so that's the largest in the world.
@@udbhavsingh2886 Even Non Vegetarians are not that hardcore.
They have off days and mostly make veg on festivals.
So far the best guest you've had till now. Marco is such a vibe and his enthusiasm towards a new cuisine is so infectious & genuine. Hope to see him again.
@Alfred Rose Yes.
I totally agree enjoyed that so much

I love how much passionate David is about Indian food. He explains with same enthusiasm everytime. Definitely should be brand ambassador for Indian food. ❤️
You are not only tasting Indian foods. You are promoting the foods and the stalls. Great work🔥🔥
You can tell these are not typical tourist spot and mostly caters for locals and is a hidden gem. Those type of places usually have the best type of food!
Exactly what I was thinking.... I'm in these areas all the time, and never knew they existed, probably walked past that cart a few times, glad to know they exist, definitely will be hittin them up.
Check out our Channel for EPIC Random Recipes! 🍔 👍🏼
Yes agreed Man
I would appeal to Indian government that David should be made 🇮🇳 India’s food and culture ambassador for 🇺🇸 USA!
Yes 🤣 as a indian he knows about indian food more than me. It's very good to see that not only food but he's very aware about indian culture
Govt of INDIA cannot appoint such foreign nationals as the ambassador it can appoint only indian nationals.
@@neelotpalsrivastav6644 hahahaha brother it seems you took my comment very seriously!!!

Dear David - I must admit you are truly an ambassador of India and our cuisine ! The best part was you used both your hands to eat the Roti or Dosa and didn’t advice your friend who was relishing the Indian veggie delight using his left hand ! No issues at all - perfect ! This is what I expected from you always ! Thanks a bunch 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️

Coming so much praises from a Italian is really something. Italians are really particular about trying different cuisine. They are not easily impressed as I came to know about it. Thank you so much David 🥰🥰 You're really the best person to introduce our cuisine to different people of the world. May God Bless You 😀😊🙏
I love the synergy between David and his guest ..hope he brings him back because that duo worked .-)))

An Italian praising the Indian food says a lot about how good the Indian cuisine is !!😍😍..and David !! I luv u brother and I just hope that our India too becomes rich, neat and clean , prosperous, organised , less crowded, less polluted, law abiding and a great developed nation just like urs !!!😥😥😥
I love it ! Indian food is amazing & i can’t wait to take a deeper dive into the cuisine !
@@Marcosworldnyc ...hy Marco !! Lemmi sum it up for u !! The best Indian cuisine is as follows :
1. Punjabi and Bengali (both share the no.1 spot ).
2. South Indian .
...all other stuff is just ordinary.😊😊 do try bengali sweets , they r just mind blowing and there is a very famous Bengali snack known as bhelpuri which has puffed rice, gram flour fried shavings, onions, tomatoes, coconut pieces, raisins, sweet n sour chutnies ( made up of tamarind and mint, corriender etc), lemon juice, peanuts etc. Its a rainbow of flavours like sweet, sour, tangy, salty and crunchy. There's never any turmeric in any Chai😅
But definitely in most other dishes.
Clearly I would say that this vlog was best the energy level was so good of both of the food lovers especially .David he is always in love with Indian food and have the skill of making others admire the Indian food ❤️❤️

He enjoyed the food as much as david did! Good companion!
Thank You David for promoting Indian food.
Love and Respect from India.
David taught me a lot about the Indian culture in this episode
This video had so much energy due to Italians.
It’s cause we’re filled with that good energy !
What an amazing video!! Love watching people try vegetarian Indian food. I'm vegetarian myself. The yellow dosa is called "adai" in Tamil. It's a mix.of various lentils and is super healthy and protein rich. The brown powder that came with it is called jaggery which is sweet and goes with the adai. :) We have adai quite often here at home.
It’s heartwarming to see David’s love & respect for Indian food
As long as you watch their videos and make them money

This was a delightful video, but that’s not why I’m commenting.
The reason that I’m commenting is that I’d love to accompany you on an exploration of the great classic New York Ashkenazic Jewish food spots in the East Village and Lower Eastside. Several shots in this video featured the signage from Katz’s Delicatessen, and you walked passed Yonah Schimmel, NYC’s premiere knish bakery, and Russ & Daughter’s, probably the best kosher style appetizing shop in the world, which is to say the number one joint for anything one might want to serve with bagels.
I may not be much of an influencer, but as a native New Yorker, longtime fixture on the Lower Eastside and Brooklyn burlesque and variety scenes, a prolific eater, and a nice Jewish boy, I think I’m probably the best copilot that you could have on such a journey.
If you’re interested, slip into my DMs, as the kids say.
Your friend really enjoyed every Indian food
