They donated to the families of the victims even though they knew that could get them blacklisted by the government. These boys do try really hard and they don't care as long as they can help people and continue to spread a good message to the world. That is one of the reasons why I love them! The don't worry i'm not afraid video is talking about the overall theme and long-term message while this video is just focusing on a specific event that was fresh and is still fresh in the minds of the Korean public and the world and the overall grief and anger it engendered in people and Spring day is a big nod to that. Even the clock in the mv was stopped at the time of the incident and all the references are so clear.
@@Wendy-jt1ln no they werent if they were we would not see anything of them. However the news came after she was kicked or in the process if being kicked out.
@@空-j8k The rapline writes their own verses most of the time, but since Joon wrote the rest, its said to be written by him. It's the same with so many other songs.. I'm sad that people forget that 😢
Yes i wanted you to watch this one as well.. There are too many ways to explain BTS mv.. As a Korean.. as soon as we watch this mv.. we can surely notice this has Sewol Ferry Tragedy meaning. The yellow ribbon means Sewol Ferry here in Korea..n the time in the laundry room is exactly the accident time. Rm said he made this song for who miss friends n comfort people as well. N after releasing this song, 7 members n Big hit donated for the victim family. One of student's dad said thanks to BTS for visiting the tragedy place at late night secretely n making this song. Coz his daughter was an army n she might love it in the heaven. And spring day is still on the korea music chart for almost 3 years. Whoever watch this mv plz dont forget this Korean tragedy n remember the people as well. Sorry for bad English thou :)
This is so heartbreaking.. I remember reading the news when it happened, watching the videos of the students and the days waiting for the updates of survivor.. 💔😭 Sending loves to all the families of the victims 💜💜💜
I watched documentary video of survivers. Still these children are suffering. They said many years they don't want tell to other people they are survivers. Sorry my English I'm Japanese Grandma. I'm always thinking about their parents.
@K ashely: thank youfor writing it again. Iwatched other sortof same information you shared above. I watched that horrible tragedyin newsTV at that TIME. Isn't it SEWOL Ferry instead Sewel? And do you mean " Bangtans and BIGhit DONATED" , not dominated?. I read that later they did it in silent in respectinb all victims' family and all passengrrs have gone. To me, personally, it is a HUGE reminder to all of us how the act of kindness is : just do it, without the need of 'toxic's spotlight (media, cameras etc). A very beautiful wisdom and they remind us this gesture.
I still get goosebumps whenever I watch this. Fun fact: Spring Day has not left the charts since 2017. It's the longest charting song in Korea. It's a way to commemorate what happened regarding the tragedy.
Also 'Snowpiercer' as referred to in the mv was created by South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho. His latest movie 'Parasite' is currently nominated for six Oscar Academy awards.
When my dad died, i accidentally came across this song ... and it turned out to be fateful. Really BTS find you when you need them most! This song always makes me cry, but also to appreciate what I have and what I should be thankful for... Truly masterpiece!
Maria Kaludova I can relate to this song a lot too, I lost many ppl , my mom, uncles , grandparents, and ... (mainly to cancer ) this song and jin's "mom" and "tonight" make me so emotional even though the language is different these songs makes me feel the emotions.
theres many interpretations and listeners can still have their own for it to match their own lives. bts hasnt confirmed or denied any interpretations because there is so many links to the tragedy during the time they released this song it was dangerous to speak out about it. and its still a very sensitive topic. but even more so because the old president wasnt impeached yet. many celebrities were being blacklisted for speaking about it or helping out the families still bts and bighit donated to them and i read some of the victims families have thanked them for Spring Day. the only confirmation we have is when Spring Day won a award RM said they made the song to comfort many people in many situations. that was the only public nod they gave about the interpretations. to this day Spring Day hasnt left Korean charts.
The old president 'Park geun hye' was impeached. She's waiting for the court decision of prison sentence. Hopefully she gets at least 15-20 years she deserves! Sewol ferry accident should not have been any political matter in the first place, but Park and her political allies made it so. That's why artists and people in the entertainment industry in Korea do not mention much about it coz they don't want to be seen with political view to the public and it limits their career choice. Whether BTS made 'spring day' for the victims or not, it's still comforting so many people including me. I think that's enough. Spring day is the song led me to BTS and army. Love them.
spring day has been charting in korea since the day it was released. its really stuck with the general population of Korea. also, it's almost unheard of for idols to speak about these things, and the government was against ppl speaking out about the disaster. so its really incredible they made this mv with very obvious symbolism. big hit, Bang pd and every member all individually donated money to the families of the victims of the disaster. they are incredible ppl. also snowpiercer is directed by the same guy who did parasite... totally recommend!
I think many different interpretations of an artistic work can be valid, but I have to confess that the tribute to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy is the most compelling one for me for this video and song. This explanation video provided many reasons why many of us believe this interpretation, but here are some more that I think are references to the tragedy: - The yellow ribbons, which were a symbol of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy and worn by the protestors of the event. - The clock in the laundry room is set to 9:35, the same time as when the rescue teams arrived to try and save the people onboard. - The video is shot on a train which is a public conveyance, just like a ferry, and Taehyung waits at the station for a train that never arrives, much like the families waited at the port for the ferry. - The shoes, after the tragedy, families of the children who perished brought shoes with messages written on them for their lost son/daughter/brother/sister and left them at the port. - Snowpiercer and Omelas are both stories where children or a single child must suffer with the willful knowledge of those in power so that the powerful may live easily, which was a reflection of how the ferry disaster occurred (the government's corruption led to the ferry being unseaworthy and misused, the boat's crew used their power over the passengers and children to escape before anyone else and make it harder for those others to do so later, the government tried to avoid a scandal by hiding how badly the rescue was going and probably condemned hundreds to die during the "rescue"). - The choreography for this song depicts imagery of not just a friend who moves away or is unavailable, but one who is gone gone. And at one point near the end, when Taehyung is off by himself to the right, the rest of the boys form the shape of a ship, from which Jin emerges to comfort Taehyung. (There are many performances of this, but the one where you can everything, all the images they create with their bodies and movement, the best is the dance practice.) - This song was released with a repackaging of the Wings album and included 4 new songs, 2 of which had MVs: "Spring Day" and "Not Today". "Spring Day" came first, then "Not Today" a week or two later. "Not Today" is a song about the less powerful supporting each other and not giving up the good fight and the chorus was inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech at Spelman College: ""If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl." Sorry this is so long, but this song is so important to me. I hope it was okay to share my thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing your sincere reaction with us!
Its been 3 years and the song is still ruling the charts. Its one of the longest charting song in korea. And still at very great position. We call her Queen Spring Day. She is there since BTS started becoming big and she is there till now Supproting them 🥺💜💜💜💜
♦️DON'T FORGET THAT THIS IS THE EXPLANATION OF THE MV, NOT THE LYRICS!♦️ In BTS, a lot of times the MV and the lyrics have their own stories. Here, the lyrics talk about missing friends etc.RM and Suga wrote it "based on their experience" If u focus on the lyrics, there is a new story to uncover 🤩
This is the most beautiful thing about art, be it music, poetry, cinema/fim, photography, drawing, sculpting etc. It can be interpreted in so many different ways that resonate on a personal level with the person taking it in. Personally I believe the reason so many Koreans (even elders and non idol/kpop fans) hold this song dear is because of the tragedy that occured and their personal connection to this theory. It has not left their music chart in the 3+ years since it was released, and I believe is still in the top 10 this week. It's just a very dear song that touches their hearts and souls. However, both explanations hold validity and beauty. This song is meaningful and elegant and raw no matter which theory you prefer. Thank you for reacting to both explained videos.
every time i hear about the story of the tragedy my blood boils, its just another case of greedy corporations that cared more about money than the safety and duty to protect innocent human lives, children's lives...they knew that ferry was dangerous (they overloaded it) but continued and what kills me inside most is hearing that the captain was one of the first people to leave, as a captain you are supposed to put all of your passengers lives above your own and lead them to safety but he told them all to stay while he was able to have a sigh of relief.. the vids of the kids trying to stay calm and just blindly follow to what their elders (the ones you would depend on and trust as a kid in this situation) told them to do is gut wrenching, and this is what showed me that you cannot blindly follow someone just because they are older and "wiser", you have to think for yourself and be absolute, don't let anyone lead you to pain.
You know what..when jimin take the shoes from the beach..actually theres a video that one of student take before the accident happen (its on youtube, but i forgot the titlle..it something about sewol ferry)..he said "I lost my shoes..wheres my shoes??"..that video and thats jimin part MV really make me chill😨 and so sad, how they are really just stood in they room, while the ship is slowly sinking coz they were told to not to move..how they cried and hw they wanna live😭😭..RIP for them💜💜
Yes, I also watch that video of the student looking for his shoes, also them looking through the window while the ship sink. The washing machine shapes same way...
Theres actually a bunch of videos that were taken on that day by survivors and a few whose phones somehow managed to get saved while they didnt they had a tribute to it on the anniversary in 2019 since most of those kids were/ would've graduated
@@keeeyyaaaloolll7845 I think it is, the yellow ribbon, the clock in the laundry scene is the same time of the tragedy. BTS even donated secretly after the song was released and a lot of the family's survivors thanked BTS for this song
K ashley I should have reworded it better, I’m sorry. We can’t claim it as if it’s a fact unless the artist has confirm it themselves is what I’m trying to say. But yes, I also believe the song is about the tragedy but it’s not just that, get me? I’m very sorry, I have a hard expressing my thoughts.
Springday mv was made to be interpreted in many ways. Springday released few year after the incident. But in korea, since the incidents, whole county was in depression. Because it was clearly intentional. Many people seek for justice. While whole korean people were suffering injustice in investigation of incident, springday mv is able to help people in depression
Oh my! I just finished your reaction on the other Spring Day Vid. I just refreshed and I saw this new upload. I'm glad you're taking into consideration all of Army's have recommended. BTS really do inspire us and makes us appreciate what life is about. Don't worry, we will be here with you as you go on this journey of discovering everything about them, their music, lyrics and their messages. Much love and respect to you as well. ❤️
Snowpiercer is a great movie! I saw it on Netflix, so hopefully it’s still on there. Thanks for reacting to both explanation videos! They both complete each other to convey the meaning of “Spring Day”. I also recommend the channel DKDKTV when it comes to learning about BTS’s songs and MVs in the context of Korean culture. Thanks again, you nice keep going!
though the RM says this song is all about missing your friends, the release of the song and MV was very timely that it somehow comforts the family of the victims and the survivors.
The two explanation have a common in lost and pain that BTS try to tell us.... it's nice to see you react to this right after the other video.....btw You Nice, Keep Going.
OMG!!..i just wish in my heart that you see this version also when i just finish the other one..are you master mind reader😁 anyways thank you for you effort for reacting on both version, appreciated a lot💜💜
it's quite complicated to explain in Eng. in detail, but, yeah. that Sewol tragedy lead to "candle revolution 촛불혁명. " by Korean citizens. and succeed to changed the government. Thanku for mentioning it.
Yeah, this song...my kids used to make fun of me for my love of this group. When I showed my daughter this video, she became an instant fan of the group. Now she listens to them all the time and is more excited for this comeback (her first) than I am!!! I hope to go see them with her (she's a L&D nurse, so it's going to depend on her schedule) in May. This group, and RM and Suga especially, when songwriting, are very conscientious of the message(s) they bring us. This song takes on new meaning for all people. For Koreans though, this MV and song is their reminder to never forget the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. I loved the song, and it resonated strongly before I knew of the deeper meaning. Now that I do though, this song is one that I'll love forever and will feel for always.
Thank you for sharing your story and experienced with your beloved daughter. It is so wonderful! Hope many more being interested to deep and craftnanship good music like BTS make for us.
First one yet again. I watched the previous video but I was hoping you’d watch this too! I just didn’t think you’d post it this soon but thank you so much for this! Appreciate it 💕
Aaaaawwwww this is so deeply moving. They made me even love ‘em more. Each of their song is not just blabbing out lyrics, they’re sending important messages. I love them and Bighit sooo much.
I just finished rewatching this and I realized that non-ARMYs recognize BTS for songs like ‘Boy with Luv’, ‘Mic Drop’ etc but ARMYs recognize BTS through ‘Spring Day’... 💜💜
Hi DT! Love your reactions to BTS videos as well as your open mindedness and curiosity to get to know who this group is. Like you, I went down the rabbit hole a couple of weeks ago with this group, and fell in love with not just their music, but their message, and who they are as individuals. Their hard work ethic, brotherhood, and ability to motivate their fans to become a better version of themselves is empowering and uplifting. As you have said, they are on a whole new level and the Grammy's is not prepared to receive such awesomeness at this this time. Keep up the good work with your vlogs! One of the best reactions to BTS videos!
Originally, RM wrote this song bcos he missed his friend a lot. He wanted to express the feeling of longing to meet his friend again. But, as with other BTS' songs, Big Hit encourages BTS to develop their songs to have wider meanings and touch on social issues. I guess they decided to subtly integrate their own criticism on the way their govt handled the tragedy. BTS couldn't express the issue openly during tht time bcos it was considered a sensitive issue, that's why the lyrics are about missing a friend. FYI, the president of tht govt is now in prison. And last month was the 5th anniversary of the tragedy and the current govt has re-opened the investigation paper to find out what had really happened on that day. I followed the whole incident on the news everyday at that time and it was sad.
This is why Spring Day is queen. It holds such deep meaning to so many people, everyone is constantly listening to it, and it never left the chart ever since it came out!
Bong joon ho is a great director and scriptwriter. His recent film 'Paradite' just won 4 oscar awards this year including 'Best Picture' for the first time in history as a foreign film. And Korean dramas and films have highly been acclaimed for cinematic quality and popularity.
This is why Spring Day will always have that special place not only in the fans' hearts but also in the korean general public's heart. This song never left korea's main streaming platform since its release in 2017. A masterpiece indeed.
as a namjoon biased, I am obligated to tell you RM wrote this song at a park when he saw leaves falling. The talent! and the fact that this song, Spring Day, never left the biggest chart in SK (Melon Charts) since the day of it's release! it's a timeless masterpiece made by one of the best artists I've ever witnessed, RM 🥺
For a while under the old South Korean government BTS was blacklisted for donating to the victim’s family of the tragedy. They aren’t anymore but this is a big reason why this song is still charting. 😢
My journey with BTS started last fall. I heard a celebrity mention their name in the first song that popped up on RUclips was Idol. What I thought would just be exploring a cool band turned into a road of self discovery, cultural understanding, and musical appreciation. As a high school teacher I try to tune in with current trends, but like you, this one took a very personal turn. The layers of meaning they transcend is amazing, especially for their age. After seeing Spring Day I ordered Snow Piercer, researched the ferry incident, and read the Omelas story. And every song is like that. It almost takes a week to fully digest every song they produce. And like you I purchased a ticket to the concert when it comes to town. Your reaction videos are excellent. And it is interesting to me that the order of your videos is almost the same as my experience. It will be interesting to see how far this rabbit hole goes.
I prefer the previous explanation video you did, because I understand that people who were associated with the Sewol Ferry Tragedy connect with this song deeply, this song though was not made specifically for the tragedy, the other video you reacted to explain what the video was actually talking about well based on clues and the concept BTS went with, suicide, missing friends and bringing awareness to taboo issues in South Korea, and the ones who walked away from the Omelas and snow piercer. That explanation suited the Spring Day MV more than this one.
I love how you’re looking beyond the surface of their music. It’s a big reason why ARMYs are so supportive of BTS. It’s more than just 7 boys singing and dancing. Love your reactions!
Yes, that song is still topping on Korean chart up to now., because it'd a healing song to those whose love ones are victims of the tragedy and of course to those who are missing their loved ones..
this song specifically and the explanation make me cry!! when i saw the real video for this tragedy and how the students suffered and their last words !!! my eyes are teary right now while thinking of it ! 🥺 thanks for your reaction though
I am crying as I write this...... even though this song was most likely written about this tragic and horrendous event, I feel like it still has a message for anyone who has lost someone. Whether it's from suicide, sickness, accidents or whatever takes a loved one from our grasp. I lost my youngest daughter in 2010, she will be 18 forever. Her picture, that I painted (because I don't ever want to forget her, what she looked like, her looking into the sunrise...) is my profile pic. She too was an amazing singer, she has one video here on youtube that makes be bawl every time. But yeah, I can relate to this song that RM wrote so eloquently and beautifully. Everytime I hear Spring Day she comes to mind, sad, but not in a bad way. More like reminiscing or 'what if' feelings that run and hit deep. The more I watch and learn about BTS the more I appreciate what these men (can't really call them boys anymore) have to say through their music, videos and basically how they live their lives as a testimony to us. As Bill & Ted used to say, "Be EXCELLENT to each other..." #BTS
More backround info about this tragedy. There was Japanese and American forces nearby with equipment needed to help save everyone but the korean government denied their help and said they would deal with it on their own. Their was no response from coast guards for a very long period of time which was super fishy. The ship was way over the weight limitations which played a huge factor in the sinking, yes the captain knew, in fact everything was planned. There was not only students there was also couples, families on that boat. The professional government divers stopped searching for kids bodies quickly because "its impossible" so local divers volunteered to retrieve the students bodies. The government tried to prevent these volunteer divers. Some divers committed suicide unfortunately due to nightmares and depression of the whole incident. As well as the vice president who organized the trip, he felt so depressed. The most shocking and sickening fact is that there is a major case which explains that whole tragedy was organized by a cult. The 2014 government's father had affiliations with said cult. Just google "Evangelical Baptist Church of Korea sewol tragedy". Its not just a conspiracy, arrests were made. The business man/cult leader went into hiding for a while and then killed himself the same summer. I think that saddest part was watching small videos of students moments before their deaths. They are all over youtube...its just heartbreaking to see all these young kids who finished their final exams and see them all excited to go on a "graduation trip" to celebrate only to be murdered by greedy adults.
After I watched this explanation I went down the rabbit hole and watched the documentaries. Those left behind, especially the students will never be the same again. They are so broken. I cried so much and my heart ached. Even the removal of the President felt like a hollow victory to me. It was just too tragic. May they rest in peace and thank you for reacting to this video.
I'm so happy you've done reactions for both explanations. I was just saying in the other reaction that I thought you should do them. I appreciate both theories, and this is definitely the more popular and emotional of the two. I don't think either is right or wrong, just different perspectives. When it comes to art, the correct meaning is what resonates with the individual listener. I feel the other is probably more accurate, but this one definitely has the emotional aspect down. When it comes to grief, and finding your way through, whatever helps you cope, is right.
"But now I need to know the details of this ferry thing... is so me after watching this explanation a long time ago and after watching the news and videos about it, I cried although I'm not a Korean I can still feel the pain and sadness of the family of the victims.
This one.....this explanation... I wasn't aware of the tragedy either...until I saw this and a reactor reacting to this video one day and I searched it up. My heart breaks every time I hear Spring Day. I know this song hasn't really left the charts in SK at least not very long, many people found a lot of comfort in it and I think still do. I heard they also had made a private? donation to the families/ survivors of the tragedy at the time. This one gets me every time. I always tear up. Especially at the part where it talks about the captain ordering them to stay put. Breaks me each time. This song is special and heavy for me. I love it but its also really difficult for me to just listen to anymore. Also; would really love to see a reaction to the lyrics of paradise!
This song is still charting in Korea. Talk about resonating. It goes to the Top 5/Top 10 every time a new BTS song is released, but it really hasn't left the music chart since it debuted about 3 years ago. I dare to say the Korean people hold this song close to their hearts.
I'm binge watching all your videos, as you'll probably notice. I became an army around 3 months ago but I've known about this tragedy for years now. Spring Day has a personal meaning - Namjoon and Yoongi's friendship and the friendships they left behind as they grew, and a major meaning - the MV Sewol disaster. Jin recently confirmed it, kinda. When asked if the song was about a very sad event in their Country, he said yes, it was also about that. Spring Day was released in 2017, we are currently on the first week of 2021, and it is still in the South Korea top 100 charts. It"s not a case of falling off the charts and getting back, it simply hasn't left the charts since its release.
Thank you for considering and reacting to both videos. We appreciate the care you take to cater to your viewers and how much you listen to their suggestions.
It's sad that most of us had never heard of this tragedy before Spring Day. I'm glad you saw this, too. Spring Day is called the Queen of all BTS songs. It has never left Korea's music charts.
This is the beauty of Big Hit Ent. & the amazing group BTS. They never tell you themselves exactly what their mv's are about. They are like an onion, they have layers and they can be interpreted a few different ways and it is still a perfect story that means something to someone. Either way you see the story, you are touch, moved and a part of your heart changed. Have a great day my friend.🌹
This was a tragedy, not just because so many young life's left us too early, and not just because the crew evacuated while leaving the children to die... But also how the government handled it, as you saw, they spent abnormally long before reaching the scene... And later if celebrities mentioned it, they were in danger of being blacklisted, which is why BTS had to be sorta subtle with their support... But people still knew, which is one of the reasons this song is so loved. Luckily the captain is in jail and the president was impeached.... It won't bring back the young lives, but there is a small comfort at least
This is one of the reasons why I like BTS so much. Many of their songs have multiple layers and meanings and the MV's or their choreography can also change the meaning or at least how we perceive it (Idol being another good example). Spring Day in its core is a song about missing someone and trying to deal with those emotions. Everyone can relate and find comfort from this song. But with the MV and the choreo (it's wery beautiful, you should check it out, it even has a boat/ship shape at one point) the meaning becomes much more personal and specific. Most Korean reactors I've seen instantly recognize the connection to that tragedy, unlike most non Koreans who take it as more general story of missing a loved one and relate to it that way.
BTS has never been able to specifically say the song/video was about the ferry disaster due to threat of repercussions from the Korean government but the symbolism points to it. They’ve also never denied it. When asked what the song is about I think RM has said he wrote it while thinking about missing friends. The government did an extremely poor job at handling the disaster as it happened and then with the rescue efforts as well. Information was withheld from the public and there were attempts to cover things up. It really was a tragedy that impacted the entire nation. The fact that most of the crew and the even the captain made it to safety after telling the students to remain in their seats really eats at me. This song is very beloved in Korea. It won many awards and I think it still charts pretty high every year when the anniversary comes around. If there’s one thing that BTS is known for and I’m sure will never change, its that they always speak out against injustice any way they can, usually through their music. Many of their songs criticize certain societal wrongs and systems that are harmful, especially towards the youth. In Korea there is the societal norm of strong respect to anyone older than you, which is good if not taken to extremes which happens. (Think Millennials v. Boomers) If you want songs by them where they have heavy social commentary some I recommend are: Baepsae/Silver Spoon, Spine Breaker, N.O, their debut song No More Dream, Am I Wrong, and GoGo (this song is satirical). RM’s verse in Dope actually has some social commentary as well. There’s probs more but those are just some that come to mind. Thanks for your reaction! Sorry my comment was so long💜
i cried every time watching Spring Day reaction. But I really thank you for you to take the time to react and understand about BTS and how much this group has really made positive impacts to people all over the world. Thank you for the bottom of my heart.
At the time of the tragedy there was a man in the rescue team that took his life, he talked about the traumas he faces after the disaster (what I’m about to say is extremely traumatic, so don’t read it if you don’t think you can) He went on to report that he pulled out the lifeless bodies of young students who at the time were only 15-18 years old, some of them with cuts and broken limbs that they unfortunately received in their last moments of fighting for their lives, he also explained he found the bodies of scared children who died in each others embrace, who were still latched onto each other in their last moments and remained that way even after being pulled out of the water, he felt so guilty that he imagined himself in their positions before they died, and how he could feel the terror they felt during their last few breaths, he imagined the hope they had when they were told they were to be rescued and how even till the last few seconds they still believed someone was on their way to save them, before he killed himself he explained the thing that made up his mind, the final straw that pushed him to the point of determining his own death, he said the reason he was going to kill himself was due to graphic dreams he had after the ship sunk, I believe it was in a letter he said this, but he had dreams of playing hide and seek on the tilted boat with the dead bodies of the school children and how he would run round trying to find them alone, I can’t imagine how he must have felt when having those dreams, the sheer terror of it, it’s truly heartbreaking and my condolences go out to his family and all those who lost that day, Rest in peace!
This video never ceases to move me, even before watching the explanation, it made me cry. The biggest tragedy was that many deaths were preventable. The Korean culture played a role, there are videos taken by students describing their situation, being told to stay put, even as the ferry was sinking, the majority followed the orders, even some teachers, sad that we are conditioned to follow orders from authorities, even when we know it is unjust.
The thing with this song that makes me love it so much is how subtly obvious it is. If you're a Korean, you just know what it's about, you feel it. I remember when this came out, I was visiting family in Korea and we all watched this together, and even though I wasn't as affected by the tragedy in the same way as the others I was watching it with were, (I've lived most of my life in Finland, and I still live here), everyone in the room just knew, it's just the imagery and the way they sung the song and everything, I don't know how to explain it, you just knew. And then it really got confirmed when bts donated to the families of the victims, they knew it could get them blacklisted by the government and yet they still did it, I think my respect for them grew a lot during that time.
its about ALL OF IT. both of the vids you watched are important. thank you. it makes me weep. like, TEARS. I remember the news at the time but, like a lot of the world, we didnt know the details. I went into it so hard and wept,.
Until now I still can't get over this explanation... It really hits me hard... That I actually repeat it all over again 😢😢 This is the true explanation
There is no right or wrong explanation to BTS' songs and videos. We are free to relate their songs to our own personal stories. I love and believe this explanation, but I completely agree to the other one too. 💜
Yes. With all the undeniable similarities like the yellow ribbons, the dont forget note, the clock on the wall in laundry room scene-the time shown is the exact time the ferry completely capsized, sunk-disappeared. If the authorities had responded the way they were supoosed & if the captain told everyone to evacuate instead of staying in their spots it wouldve been a rescue mission not a recovery mission. Basically the government said "we'll f*ck ur life up" if anyone speaks up or about the tragedy or goes against the government on how they handled the situation, lied to the families etc the list goes on... BTS & BigHit have never officially released a statement about this song. RM has said that its about watever you feel/think its about. He said its just mainly about missing friends. But u cant deny it. Theres too many clues & references. Its also known that BTS/BigHit donated a nice chunk of change to the families of the Sewol victims. I've also heard BTS was blacklisted when this song was released (cant remember where i heard/read it) whether its true or not idk
One of the beautiful things about art is that it can be interpreted differently by every individual who views/hears it, in a way that means the most to that person. This song can be interpreted simply as an ode to missing a loved one, and hoping for better days--and there's nothing wrong with viewing it that way. However, when it comes to Spring Day, I believe that the songwriters (RM wrote the great majority of the lyrics) had multiple stories to tell. I think the intentions behind it are probably a cross between the two "Explain" videos you watched. The references to Snowpiercer and The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas are very deliberate, and I think the first reactor (Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid) did an excellent job of explaining those references. But I do think the references in the lyrics to missing someone are references to family members and survivors who are missing their lost loved ones who died in the Sewol Ferry tragedy. I also think the suitcases on the train, and the piles of clothes refer to the belongings that the victims left behind. Jimin's presence on the beach ties into this, as shoes and items of clothing continued to wash up on surrounding beaches for months after the tragedy occurred. The yellow ribbons could refer to both victims of suicide and victims of the ferry accident.
Thank you for reacting to this. It's my most favorite Mv and everytime I hear this song it always gives me the same chills and goosebumps. And it makes me admire more the music of them. Everything was interesting.
Thank u so much for this. I watch reacts because it’s nice to have someone who watches the same stuff as me. Lol I appreciate your channel so much man.
Im glad you did react to this.. If you look more into about the sewol tragedy you would see how big and sad it was and how the government hid it. I watched videos and documentaries about it. BTS made a bold move to release this as well because they can get blacklisted. BTS and Bighit was noted to have donated to the families from the tragedy. They did it secretly but was then found out as the parents were thanking them. that made me so proud as an army. I thank the boys for sharing this and letting us international armys be aware of such an incident happened. Through this we can also pray and remember them. Oh You should definitely watch “Snowpiercer” such a great story! Snowpiercer has the same director of “parasite” the korean movie who is being nominated and awarded just recently. So many korean movies that are amazing good and finally “Parasite” paved the way for korea to be globally known and be acknowledged as great Storytellers and actors/directors. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
New sub from South Africa. Wow, after watching this I went and looked up the disaster and cried for the loss and even after so long the loss is still felt😥. I am new to the BTS scene, 3 weeks to be exact. But loving every second in my new found rabbit hole.
The song is about a lost of someone. They said that you can interpret it in many ways. The video does reference the disaster, but also suicide and many different things. There is no one way to look at it, both explanation videos picked up on some references but it doesn’t mean that the song should mean the same thing to you.
hello friend, this song really plays deeply and as you also researched on the topic, which made me admire even more the way the boys presented it, in Korea there is a limitation to talk about this issue by politicians, but the population still remembers this act until today and "spring day" and the music of the boys never leaves the cards, she is always showing it as it was said in the message "never forget"
Thank you for reacting to this video. I had no idea the song was like a somber memorial to that horrific tragedy. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention and it makes me love and respect the BTS boys for beautifully remembering this sad event. 👌😭😭💜💜
Spring day will always be a very emotional song. Many people think its just a song and its just a video but its not. None of Bts music is just about the song.
I love Spring Day, the fact that its such a great song and it took only so little time for RM to write it is just amazing! But sometimes 15 minutes can be enough time to write such heartfelt words! There is another song that talks about the tragedy. As far as I know there is only a live vesion but Its a great song! Cheetah a female rapper wrote that song its called "Yellow Ocean" it brings me to tears every time I watch that one.
I love this song way back before knowing the deeper meaning of it...now, after learning the meaning behind it makes me even love it more. I knew this is something special until I saw the explanation. I got goosebumps and yes it made me cry. BTS is not just your ordinary K-pop artist...they are all brilliant. This song is something that can be passed on to generations after generations. They just created a beautiful music that will forever leave a spot in our hearts. And they way they honored and remember all those who victims through their music is really something else. They may be forgotten one day but their craft in music will be cherished and lived on. This is a brave I should say. I love how they raises awareness through their music. Keep creating beautiful music. God bless you BTS.
Someone said that in the MV the train like sound in the intro is not really from a train but it sounds like an on board signal of a SHIP/FERRY. And also a producer said that the beat of the song sounds like an "underwater like drum". Kinda makes sense though... There's actually a well researched/more detailed MV and song explanation video about Spring Day, also everything about the tragedy. The video is a well researched analysis of everything (symbolisms / the meaning of the clothes the wore during the era / what really happened in that tragedy, THE BLACK LISTED ARTISTS / why people cant talk about the issue during those years, etc.), including the connection of their "WINGS: YOU NEVER WALK ALONE" album to the You Never Walk Alone Campaign of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy and the Hillsborough Tragedy and BTS supported the whole campaign. Everything is in this video, and that video was featured on the Korean broadcast "Spotlight" on JTBC channel. Here's the link: What you STILL DON'T KNOW about BTS SPRING DAY MV ruclips.net/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/видео.html
I watched your reaction to the other explained video, that was my first time seeing that video. And it really hit me that it’s amazing how BTS can create videos that can have so many different interpretations. They really make you think about things and there’s always something different that each person takes away. They truly are in a class of their own. I personally think the song itself is more related to the first explained video you watched - RM has talked about how/when he wrote that song he was sitting in a park and missing his friends. But I do think the video is more related to the Sewol tragedy. It just goes back to how BTS is so good at telling a story and making it such a deep story in multiple ways. If you start getting into the BU (BTS Universe) which is the fictional story line they have going in in their older songs, - I Need U, Run, Wings short clips, etc. you'll see just how masterful they are at telling a story without actually telling it. If you do get into those, I'd suggest watching them pretty close together, don't let too much time go in between videos otherwise you'll probably forget/miss a lot of the small details that tie things together.
The director of the movie snow-piercer is Joinho BONG who is the same director of Paradise the movie has been nominated on 5 categories in Oscar this year! The legendary Korean director has lots of international fans.!!
Yeahhhhhh
. Our boys are so so kind💜💜😭💜😭💜💜
They were blacklisted by the gov. But I think they didnt mind it at all. Doing what was right and your conscious will be clear.
@@Wendy-jt1ln no they werent if they were we would not see anything of them. However the news came after she was kicked or in the process if being kicked out.
they were blacklisted along with other celebs that donated.
wait for real? I didnt even know this
Fun fact: Namjoon wrote this masterpiece at the park.. Such a talent.. he can be inspired anywhere
And with just seeing a falling leaves and it turns out into this Masterpiece..the QUEEN SPRING DAY!
YEs.. RM is a genius... He's a God's gift for us!
yeah and this song for people who missing their friends
Suga also wrote the lyrics with RM don’t forget!
Wow. Thanks for additional info
Thank you for sharing this. I am now tearing up. Sending love to the families who lost their precious ones. 😥
It's a way to commemorate what happened regarding the tragedy.
since 2016
BTS paved the way The Fact No 2017. Spring Day came out February of 2017 so it couldn’t be on the charts in 2016 💜
Also 'Snowpiercer' as referred to in the mv was created by South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho. His latest movie 'Parasite' is currently nominated for six Oscar Academy awards.
Ooh. I didn't realize that they were done by the same person
Shelley Kmama Yes and both movies are amazing imo:)
@@Laya-Rose Okja is great too
Yes! And Bong Joon Ho has talked about how much he appreciates BTS's influence in the world. That's my dream collab BTSxBongJoonHo!
Yes, I didn't watch Parasite yet, but I've seen The Snowpiercer a long time ago and it's absolutely amazing.
Love them.
Namjoon said he wrote the lyrics thinking of his friends
spring day has been charting in korea since the day it was released. its really stuck with the general population of Korea. also, it's almost unheard of for idols to speak about these things, and the government was against ppl speaking out about the disaster. so its really incredible they made this mv with very obvious symbolism. big hit, Bang pd and every member all individually donated money to the families of the victims of the disaster.
they are incredible ppl.
also snowpiercer is directed by the same guy who did parasite... totally recommend!
mowow oh yes, Parasite is on my list .... thanks 💜
I think many different interpretations of an artistic work can be valid, but I have to confess that the tribute to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy is the most compelling one for me for this video and song. This explanation video provided many reasons why many of us believe this interpretation, but here are some more that I think are references to the tragedy:
- The yellow ribbons, which were a symbol of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy and worn by the protestors of the event.
(There are many performances of this, but the one where you can everything, all the images they create with their bodies and movement, the best is the dance practice.)
- This song was released with a repackaging of the Wings album and included 4 new songs, 2 of which had MVs: "Spring Day" and "Not Today". "Spring Day" came first, then "Not Today" a week or two later. "Not Today" is a song about the less powerful supporting each other and not giving up the good fight and the chorus was inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech at Spelman College: ""If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl."
Sorry this is so long, but this song is so important to me. I hope it was okay to share my thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing your sincere reaction with us!
well absolutely...tq 4 da explanation..i appreciate it.. rest in peace for the victims..may their family live a strong n happy live..i hope so
Its been 3 years and the song is still ruling the charts.
This is the true meaning of spring day.
Not it’s not, we don’t know that, it’s just a theory.
As a korean im very sure this mv has the tragedy meanings.
Keziah Lago i agree with you
Springday mv was made to be interpreted in many ways.
Yeap. ,
#DKDKTV
I also can recommend DKDKTV for great insight into Korean culture.
though the RM says this song is all about missing your friends, the release of the song and MV was very timely that it somehow comforts the family of the victims and the survivors.
Everything is here in the video. The really meaning of the mv.
This is the most accurate interpretation of Spring day !
the ferry tragedy literally changed the Korean government.
it's quite complicated to explain in Eng. in detail, but, yeah. that Sewol tragedy lead to "candle revolution 촛불혁명. " by Korean citizens. and succeed to changed the government. Thanku for mentioning it.
im so happy to see how interested u got in bts 💜💜 i love to see open minded people out there 👏🏻
Yeah, this song...my kids used to make fun of me for my love of this group.
Finalllllyyyyy 💕 Thank you for listening or reading our comment. Hehehehe!

Oh yes. Such amazing classics😃👌🏻
Oh yessss........Paradise 💜
Plus the explained videos
I'm discovering the meaning of Spring day as you are. Your genuine interest shows through your reactions. Thank you for sharing your reactions!
What I love about their songs is that it can have this deeper meaning but you can also use the lyrics to relate to your own life. We all miss someone.
They are all over youtube...its just heartbreaking to see all these young kids who finished their final exams and see them all excited to go on a "graduation trip" to celebrate only to be murdered by greedy adults.
this song is not just about tragedy. it's about missing friends we all experience in life. that's why Spring Day is so relatable.
This song is still in the korean music charts for a reason. It was one traumatic tragedy that should never be forgotten
The man behind the "Snowpiercer" movie is the same man now behind "Parasite" movie up for all those Oscars. He's also a very big BTS fan.🤔👍
"But now I need to know the details of this ferry thing... is so me after watching this explanation a long time ago and after watching the news and videos about it, I cried although I'm not a Korean I can still feel the pain and sadness of the family of the victims.
this what makes BTS far from any other kpop group, them writing the song about the tragedy makes this song more meaningful and beautiful
Everyone has their own meaning of a BTS song. They're that much relatable and meaningful.
Omg!! I've been waiting for this explanation 😭 glad you did it 💙 this is the true meaning of spring day.
The connection to the ferry and the MV has never been confirmed but this song really provided a comfort to this who were affected by it.
At the time of the tragedy there was a man in the rescue team that took his life, he talked about the traumas he faces after the disaster (what I’m about to say is extremely traumatic, so don’t read it if you don’t think you can)
He went on to report that he pulled out the lifeless bodies of young students who at the time were only 15-18 years old, some of them with cuts and broken limbs that they unfortunately received in their last moments of fighting for their lives, he also explained he found the bodies of scared children who died in each others embrace, who were still latched onto each other in their last moments and remained that way even after being pulled out of the water, he felt so guilty that he imagined himself in their positions before they died, and how he could feel the terror they felt during their last few breaths, he imagined the hope they had when they were told they were to be rescued and how even till the last few seconds they still believed someone was on their way to save them, before he killed himself he explained the thing that made up his mind, the final straw that pushed him to the point of determining his own death, he said the reason he was going to kill himself was due to graphic dreams he had after the ship sunk, I believe it was in a letter he said this, but he had dreams of playing hide and seek on the tilted boat with the dead bodies of the school children and how he would run round trying to find them alone, I can’t imagine how he must have felt when having those dreams, the sheer terror of it, it’s truly heartbreaking and my condolences go out to his family and all those who lost that day, Rest in peace!
THIS SONG MEANS SO MUCH TO ME 😭 I ALWAYS CRY WHENEVER I WATCH THE MV OR SOMEONE ELSE’S REACTION VIDEO. NOW I’M CRYING AGAIN.
That I actually repeat it all over again 😢😢
This is the true explanation
Glad you finally watch this. There is a reason why this song never leave the chart after her first release.
Falling into to the BTS rabbit hole exposes you to so much more than just music.
Sigh 😔 ok now I can bring out the tissues once again . I’m happy you reacted to this explanation video as well ! 💜
Thank you for reacting to both. When it comes to theories or explanations everyone sees things differently. 💜
Thanks for reacting to this one a swell! It's always hard holding back the tears while watching this explanation MV.
Yes. Thank you for watching this one. Great reaction. 💜
But loving every second in my new found rabbit hole.
remember 2014-04-16 🎗 in Korea, this song Spring Day by BTS like a National song to keep remembering the victims of sewol tragedy
The song is about a lost of someone. They said that you can interpret it in many ways. The video does reference the disaster, but also suicide and many different things. There is no one way to look at it, both explanation videos picked up on some references but it doesn’t mean that the song should mean the same thing to you.
“Spring Day “ is a song that always makes me cry whenever I hear it. 👑
hello friend, this song really plays deeply and as you also researched on the topic, which made me admire even more the way the boys presented it, in Korea there is a limitation to talk about this issue by politicians, but the population still remembers this act until today and "spring day" and the music of the boys never leaves the cards, she is always showing it as it was said in the message "never forget"
ANY AND ALL vids about Spring Day is necessary. legit. THANK YOU.
