But, he can't truly go back to how he was. That's why it comes off as awkward.

Due to the only reason Death to be humanized is because it was sealed into an human, and with Nyx being the indirect progenitor of life in the way we know on Earth in the Persona universe, it knowing about humans and how to live life as best as you can, Death took human form after being with you for 10 years and after separeting from you turned into your best friend. It's pretty poethic, and really exemplifies the themes of Persona 3 Death is not your enemy but something you must learn to live with, so you spend your days on bonds, because those are the things that truly make live beautiful, even the memeable phrase that Nyx Avatar says everytime it changes phases The Arcana is the way by which all is revealed, are actual life changing advices about how to live a life that brings value to you, every single variation.
