Evidently his retirement isn't official yet. He signed the papers four inches outside the "signature" box.
goat comment LOL
That’s a funny comment
4 inches outside.....? Strike all day
👏 👏 👏
You win sir.
Boom baby!
For all his bad stoke calls, my favorite Angel commentator quote is forever “ball four, straight down the middle”
you don’t see the entire internet come together too often….but this is one of those times
The one thing that unites us all is hating on this utterly useless ump lol.
At some point it becomes the "pile-it-on" bully mentality that the internet likes to do when there is blood in the water. Go out and call an MLB game sometime. These guys are watching 100+ mph pitches from 66 feet away, not 7 or 8 year old kid-pitch baseball. There's no doubt in my mind that Angel loved the game and was trying his best. All you can do.
Retiring from the MLB was the best call he has ever made.
This comment is not getting the attention it deserves. Standing ovation, Sir.
This comment needs a lot more likes
Standing O.
Maybe I was a little late to say it. Maybe that’s why not many are able to see this, but I needed to make absolutely sure that the news wasn’t clickbait or something.
Remember at the end of the return of the Jedi where all the Ewoks were celebrating with everyone? That’s how all of us feel rn
Yub nub
No idea what you're talking about
I actually wanted to bring all the fans in MLB to one of the biggest airfields in the world so we can all do the electric slide simultaneously to this news
Italk studios
Great analogy.
He actually was told he was retired years ago. But he missed the call.
The umpire union is so strong they are "framing" this as a retirement and not a case of him being fired after years of poor performance. Who tf leaves this early in the season? People who are asked to leave that's who.
Have you ever played a sport before? There are always some umpire/referee/ official that needs to make themselves more important than the game . If there is a reason that this guy worked so long it was because he was protected by the union .
@@user-zt1ym7zc7pIt’s not an if, that’s what unions do and should be abolished
@@Nick-qq8enunions are incredibly important to making sure certain job fields are safer and pay fairly. Collective bargaining is a core factor in ensuring people actually apply for needed jobs. Lots of people won't or can't afford to take on massive liability and scrutiny without some way to ensure regulations and pay are appropriate. America was at its most financially successful before Reaganomics created the income inequality we are now suffering. There is a large amount of evidence that labor unions reduce income inequality and ensure workers get a living wage, aren't overworked, are not indentured servants doomed to a lifetime of labor, have good health care, and have proper safety regulations.
I get that some people think it isn't fair because of the extreme levels of meritocracy that have convinced generations that the American dream just needs hard work and that's it...but that's a total lie. Nobody wants to work til they die. There are SO many jobs that go unfilled because it's at-will, minimum-wage work with few benefits in a stressful or manual-work field. Get used to people passing on those jobs. We'll go for the ones that pay 75k+ a year guaranteed, let us work from home, or are backed by a union. Rights do exist and humans have limits.
@@justaregulardude895 unions are good as long as everyone is on the same page . A union can’t use their power to handicap the company . Just like the the company can’t use it’s power to create a serfdom . Every is looking out for their own interests but they have to compromise at some point. . It does no one good if they company goes under
@@justaregulardude895 hhahahahaha. No. Unions are corrupt organizations that protect and promote inferior employees while lining the pockets of the leaders.
Lemme guess, you're UAW member.
ONE apologist for Angel said, "Statistically, Angel wasn't the worst." Well, as Mark Twain said, "There are lies, damn lies and statistics."
Angel Hernandez is the perfect argument against 'tenure' in any profession.
Fairly sure MLB said you either retired or we are going to fire you. That is the only reason he did not work the full season.
Finally a right call from Angel Hernandez
Angel's contribution to the game was making other umpires look good. That's about it.
Well he did put allot of eyeballs on the sport from non fans 😂
Im not a fan of baseball, but loved watching him screw up 😅
No reason for me to watch clips of baseball now .
I genuinely suspect that Angel Hernandez is secretly a top shareholder in one of the companies that makes the robotic strike zone, and he's been intentionally pushing the league over the edge
“ free at last, free at last, thank God, Almighty we are free at last!”
I've seen stats that Angel made calls with 2011 accuracy: he was on par with umps back then but didn't keep up with the league. A lot of hate he gets is just intolerance and ignorance of very recent mlb history
As bad as Angel was at his job, he always had a little extra help from the catchers, that as soon as they caught their pitches, would all drag their gloves from half a foot out of the box to back over home plate. They kept doing it because, where many umpires would notice, they knew he couldn't see it. Catch, then shift it back in, every time.
As a non baseball fan, I’m really going to miss him. He was wildly entertaining if you have no skin in the game. Jomboy’s breakdowns on him are legendary.
Angel's lawyer say's he wasn't forced out, His bad calls FORCED him out!
Angel could make a fortune in endorsements.
Lens Crafters, Lasiks, even endorsing a School for the Blind.
I was basically under a rock and I hadn't heard about his retirement until recently. I haven't felt this relieved in the longest while!
He probably owns stock in the robot umpire company.
I doubt it, he probably got into an argument with his financial investor and threw him out his house
@@yell0wberry HAHAHAHHAHAHA. Damn, you're right
4 seconds in to the vid and Pats already got me pausing to irl lol w "acoutabilabuddie" comment
I hope one day there gets to be an mlb roast and he’s gotta be there
Now we all know good and well that Angel Hernandez is way too sensitive to allow himself to be roasted
Congratulations to Laz Diaz on his promotion!
Hernandez: The MLB is discriminating against me!
The MLB: Yeah, because you suck at your job, but you’re union…
The Savanah Bananas hiring him to call Blind pitchers pitches, strikes. .....may be onto something
I love how there's football - and then there's all the other sports that are more interesting to follow the news of than to actually watch😂
I'd totally watch robot baseball! They'd have to be programed to argue with the robot umps though.
The rage will go towards CB Bucknor and Laz Diaz right now, as it should.
"this guy sucks at his job" 😂
My least favorite part about baseball is when I tune into a game I legitimately don't know what the strike zone is
0:41 gets all flustered after saying BS hahaha
wonder if anyone picks him up as a "rules analyst" 😂
He didn’t drop the lawsuit, he lost it. A court of law actually made the ruling that Angel wasn’t promoted because he was bad at his job.
Just think about how crazy that is. 😂😂
Best call of his career!
I will give him one compliment; "Finally a correct call, Angel".
Pat needs to interview Angel Hernandez so he can congratulate his retirement and ask a couple of questions. 😂😂😂
He's now in charge of programming the strike zone for the robot umps.
If every fandom agrees on something, that says a lot. Idk how this guy made it so long.
If Angel thought his retirement announcement was going to be well received then he missed that call as well
He was as sharp as a Bowling Ball that had an annual salary around $400,000.00 So, when I go to work tomorrow and squeeze Play-Doh into poop shapes all day then I should be getting a huge bonus. Yes!
Attempts to have genuine conversation about robot umpires. Turns into Terminator.
Now Buckner needs to follow suit
I just feel jilted, of him finally getting his ass whooped from an egregious call.
I can imagine one of those Boston Dynamics robots with Boston Connors dumb face to call balls and strikes. Those robots could also eject a player physically if need be. That’d be hilarious to watch Bryce Harper get picked up by a robot and literally tossed out of a game 😂
C.B. Bucknor and Laz Diaz are following right along with him.
I'm not worried about losing Hernandez. We still have Laz Diaz.
Technically MLB already had a robot. Nolan Ryan.
If Umps are CLOSE to the zone, fine, but AH was f*cking TERRIBLE. Who calls a fastball 6 inches OUTSIDE THE ZONE as a strike??? He should have been FIRED but whatever, he's gone now. You can bet a LOT of conversations happened with him & they pushed him to "retire". Just like a politician waiting out for their pension, at least he's off the field but will still get paid. Brutal.
Him missing balls and strikes was the least of his problems....
The collective average of quality umpiring in MLB has now just gone up by 1 standard deviation, congratulations MLB on your improvement.
I've seen many posts over the past few days saying there are a dozen umps that are statistically less accurate that him. They're attempting to defend him with that stat, but really it's an indictment of how terrible half of the umps in the league are. Also, their stats don't take into account the thing that he catches the most heat for, which is ejecting people for no reason. There isn't a stat or tracker for how many people the umps eject that don't deserve to be ejected, or how many ejections are caused by their bad calls.
Right, there is more to being a bad ump than just missing calls.
He finally made the right call!!
When he announced his retirement, MLB went to instant replay to confirm. Of course Manfred completely fumbled it and accidentally announced his own retirement. After which he was given a ball of string and told to play in the corner
Pitchers must love this guy
The man was possible the greatest uniter to ever live. We were all on the same page about at least one topic, and without him, where would we be?
For me, Angel is actually a great umpire and he deserves better. Have a wonderful retirement.
Every ump gave the 90s Braves pitchers those same calls. Then when the Marlins were gifted their 97 WS title by the same outrageous calls, the weak hitting Braves whined about it.
I heard the hallelujah chorus during this video
“God I’m probably the best to ever call the game “- Angel.. probably
Greg Maddox might not be in the hall of they had a robot calling balls and strikes. He made a career out of creeping the strike zone out.
It's about damn time! He was the worst umpire I've ever seen call games at any level.
With the technology available, there's no longer a reason to have a human deciding balls and strikes. You can still have an ump down there and let him announce the ball/strike after being told through an ear piece what it was, and he can still make calls at the plate. Bottom line, if you are going to have a clearly defined standard on the books of what is and isn't a strike (which baseball does) then it doesn’t make a lot of sense to have people with an unearned ego go out there and call a game with a bloated, shrunken, floating, high, low, or emotionally warped strike zone that lacks any consistency and will occasionally completely disappear be the size of the backstop if he feels he isn't receiving the respect he deserves or simply wants some attention from everyone in the stands and watching on TV. Take the strike zone away from the people.
He was paid to retire. He hurt the game more than anybody!
Who ya got going next? Diaz or Bucknor?
Best news I've heard all week
I saw that patriots helmet, and immediately thought of Owen 😉
He'll still miss the call on his own retirement announcement and keep umpiring 🤷♂️
feasting on the outside corner? since when are we call 5+ inches outside the strike zone the outside corner?
Isnt it crazy how you cant get anyone to agree on anything...until you talk about angel hernandez. Then we all agree he sucks.
small few that ever called a perfect game. he is not the worst ump by far
It's a shame he ump'ed with his eyes closed... he missed some great baseball over the years
I wanna see a press conference from angel now that he’s retired and I just want the reporters to constantly just ask him why he’s so bad at being an umpire! I think he owes everyone an explanation!
Lets hope he doesn’t pull a Brady and start again next season…
Dont watch much..but good show. Baseball is the greatest game EVER. You have to take a round bat and hit a round ball and hit it squarely.
Buddy probably sitting on 5 mil got to love unions 😅
I heard he got a job inspecting planes for Boeing.
no auto strike zone..... please....
Retiring is the only good call this bum ever made
Just crazy how blatantly awful he was but how the league still kept him for so long. Terrible management
CB Bucknor should be next
Mcafee should be an ump
In 2001, the stadium announcer got elected for saying how bad Hernandez was. In 2001!
Out with the Angels and in the with the bots... please. 🤖
Only time every team in MLB wins on the same day
It got just plain stupid when the guy started talking about robot batters. Goofus saying, "Give em and inch..." Shut up.
Another one bites the dust. Now, we need Bucknor to go.
Scott foster next !!!
When was the laat time the internet was so united in an opinion? Depp vs heard?
Great Day For Baseball.
He didn't resign....he was forced out
The NFL will be flag football before robot pitchers or hitters
How does he NOT know he is bad.
No way this guy went on his own... Guarantee MLB gave him a severance package to gtfo.
Angel Hernandez will probably sue MLB to put him in the HALL OF FAME 🤔
It’s pretty apparent that he sucked, but he could have weathered it if he had some humility and humor. He never did and it sealed his fate as the worst.
Right. I would argue CB Buckner is worse.
The MLB just needs to make it mandatory that you have a minimum number of calls behind the plate correct each year or you have a year of probation. If you preform below a setpoint any year for the next 3 your fired.
With the technology that is available today their isn’t a need to have a number of umpires physically on the field . With video and slow motion relay they can overturn the ruling on the field anyway. But where do you draw the line ?
CB next hopefully
Every MLB umpire should be evaluated just like any other job. No excuses.
So as not to hurt the feelings of the umpire union, leave the umpire with his electronic face mask behind the plate, with the computerized strike zone FLASHING a red or green light into the face of the umpire. Let the ump call the pitch but knowing it's all available in 'playback' like every other play.
Him strike zone be different
Id watch some robot v robot…
Don’t worry, there will be another Angel that’s probably in the league to be the fall guy for rigging games
We are gona party for this retirement lmao
