Very nice! These two snacks are very similar to a couple of our Indian snacks, one of which you made in another video of yours - vada pav. Great work recreating these two Sicilian snacks. Please post a video of the vegan burger buns.
@@BakingHermannthey look perfect and you did a great job. A little add to all this is to sprinkle salt and pepper (for sure) and a bit of lemon (not everybody does though)
I love what you are doing- exploring traditional vegan culture by digging back into our ancient cultures of the world before the widespread animal agriculture of nonstop meat and dairy, and seeing what the world’s ancestors ate on traditional plant based diets. This is much needed in the vegan community. Then we start to see how our native cultures are so similar in the kinds of plant based foods and humble, healthier lifestyles people used to lead. I didn’t know that the plant based foods in India were similar to that in Italy, but it doesn’t surprise me. Your presentation and personality are fantastic. Keep going, I look forward to your content!
Hi! We have a similar dish to the Panelle in Western India, called Patvadi (loosely translates to 'pan squares' in Marathi). It is prepared almost the same way, except instead of mint we usually add ginger-garlic paste, but every household has their own version. It can be fried or stewed, but everyone obviously loves the fried ones the most, haha. It's wonderful how much cultures so far away from each other always share something in food - and the love of food, of course!
GOSH..I probably have a crush on him... Something about his accent , his way of doing things always seems genuine and kinda beautiful... His videos just make me so happy!
Thanks to you for making videos on the vegan cultures across the globe. I am from India and a true vegan. I always struggled to get shorts which displayed vegan food. With your vidoes , i and my mother are regular watchers of your videos. Kudos and Wunderbar. (Pardon if I wrote the incorrect greeting 😅)
I finally made these tonight. Made vegan buns and fried up the Panelle & Cazzilli and whipped up some of your Gremolata. Just WOW!! I took 3 fritters brushed it with oil and tried it out in the air fryer just to experiment and it turned out well. I forgot to put aside some fresh mint for the Gremolata so I used half the measurement of the mint and used dry mint that we dried from last summer. Turned out so good! Thanks Julius! 😋 Btw…I love your energy! ((❤))
Will you post a video of tips and tricks in cooking like ive learned manythings from you like using baking soda with chickpeas will remove their skin those kinds of little tips and tricks
Great Video :D Discoverd panelle this spring in Milano. I made it a few times this summer in a Pizza style bread, topped with thick tomato sauce, Ruccola and some fresh garlic and herbs. It’s a nice vegan italian Döner style meal. Highly recommend it.
To be 100% accurate guys people in Sicily will usually place either panelle or cazzilli inside a panino with like sausages and other stuff, so yeah they themselves are vegan but in the vast majority of cases both are included in a meat based panini. Also, usually if you are in a group of friends and you don't feel like sitting in a bar waiting for an aperitif, you can order a tray of mixed fried goodies and you'll usually get tons of fries, fried eggplants, panelle, cazzilli, mozzarella sticks, and potato crisps and all the sauces you need usually at about a decent price.
I come from Palermo and what you say is not true. Traditionally these "friggitoria" sell only these 2 items. Sometimes they sell also with fried aubergine which you could put together with panelle e cazzilli, or even sell deep fried veggy fritters. Sometimes you might find them in other shops which sell also "Pani ca meusa" which is the antithesis of vegan food as it is lungs and spleen boiled and then fried in animal fat, together with other meat food like "stigghiola" etc.
Perfect..😍 i am very bad at making burger buns i don't know why they're not soft whenever i make them..😑 I want burger buns recipe Man pleaseeeeeee...🤤🌚
Being a vegetarian, i would love to try this for my german husband... When i tried mint in Germany, it gives a very menthol minty strong flavour..., unlike the indian mint... Is there any specific name or just normal usual mint we get in the supermarket ...
These both look so delicious. I'm going to try making the Pane e Panelle this week. You mentioned the Burmese tofu, which got me curious, do you think this could be made with lentils? Thanks!
They look awesome. Unfortunately I have Hashimotos and I really shouldn't have oil in my diet or eat potatoes although I, very occasionally, do. Can they go in the oven instead with a light brushing with olive oil?
Haven't tried that yet, but my concern is that they most likely won't hold together very well. So it'll be more like spreading roasted mashed potatoes onto the bun, not a bad thing maybe haha ☺
Try farinata di ceci instead! It's a really similar recipe from Liguria (northern Italy) and it's equally as good in a sandwich. It's basically panelle but it skips the step of cooking the mixture on the stove, the batter goes directly in the oven. Hope it helps!
My brain stopped working when I realized I don't have access to the burger buns recipe. From that moment in the video I didn't really understand what you are talking about. 😅
Did they tell you where the word cazzillo comes from? I see you speak a bit of Italian so I guess you know what the word c@zzo means.. Cazzillo is a funny way to indicate what the shape of it looks like... 😄

True! It’s so interesting to see how cultures overlap when it comes to food

luv from palermo!!
So glad you did this! I was just thinking of experimenting with the chickpea one. 👍🏼
Awesome, have a look at my any legume video, you can switch it up 👏
I’d love to see the burger bun recipe ❤ I think I’d like to eat the combination bun with the fresh herbs.
It reminds me of Indian potato bonda (the Vada in Vada pav) and the chickpea fritters reminds me of Bajjis.
True, there are a lot of similarities across cultures ☺
Yes. I want to see the burger recipe
BUN recipe plz plz !!! Thank you
What a great series. You should try Armenian Jingalov hats and Armenian sarma with grapeleaves, rice, onions and herbs.
Will you post a video of tips and tricks in cooking like ive learned manythings from you like using baking soda with chickpeas will remove their skin those kinds of little tips and tricks

I should think you'd want a sauce on that. You have a nice gremolata on your linked page

Supermarkets rarely sell the pungent variety, unfortunately. I also used store-bought mint, it'll be fine for this ☺
very nice! like panisse from Marseille👍
Indian khandvi is my favourite
I was thinking khandvi n u said it
Your cazzille looks great!🎉
Thank you so much! I hope the tips in the videos help to get them right. Took me some testing to figure it out ☺
I just came across this video on my youtube feed. What flavor mint plant is used? Thank you.

Is there a way we can bake it instead of frying it ?
Can you freeze the raw panelle and cazzilli and fry them later?? Like bolinhos de bacalhau (cod fish cakes)?
I have a question: what do you do with the oil, once you are done cooking?
❤
b be You are truly a master of your craft us
Does cooking potatoes with skin on help retain some nutrients even if you peel them afterwards?
It allows less water to enter the potatoes. And yes, less nutrients leak into the water.
@@BakingHermann thank you :-)

Are you Italian, Mr.Wumbaba?
German 😊
Isn’t that dry without a sauce?
You needed some kind of sauce, lettuce and pickles. 😊
No,that would ruin the actual flavour of the food.
😍🥰😍😍🥰🥰😍🥰🥰😍😍😍
Bruuh a burger without any Sauce...
Bruh i live in Palermo and I’ve never heard anyone call those cazilli
