For any non-Australians watching the show, every episode was this weird. There was one where the girl cloned herself to win a race, another where a dead fox kept coming to their lemon tree at night because it needed new eyes, and my personal favourite was where the eldest brother got pregnant with a tree spirit after he married a tree because he peed on it, and the way he gave birth to this baby was via burp.
.... sweet lord that last part is.... is... wtf
What 😃
Yeah makes sense
wait, so he just has to take care of a half human half tree baby for the rest of his life?
Augh I hate it when I get pregnant by a tree spirit 🙄
Why does it have a tongue? ALEX WHY DOES IT HAVE A TONGUE
For kissing
Because Paul Jennings (The author) decided it has a tounge. He wrote the books that the show is based off.
👅
Actually in the book, there was no tonuge or person or relativly happy solution. The family had to kill the possesssed scarecrow by making it fall to it's death (on the cliff the circus people died) and escape the scarecrow who was literally trying to knife murder them. I love being Australian.....
🤷♀️ idk...
As an Aussie who grew up with the show, and has seen every episode, I can tell you that there has been episodes where, Pete became a Werewolf, Bronson camped at a Graveyard overnight, Pete and Linda's brains were literally shot out their bodies, all the dust in the lighthouse merged together to become a giant monster... yet, I can say, nothing freaked me out more that damn clown scarecrow!
Awesome show tho! 👌
Do you remember episode of Pete get pregnant? Pete put lipstick that make any girl kiss him. His sister Linda kiss which is instead.
I dont know why but that one episode with mermaid and the nails was the most disturbing
oh shit i remember that fucken dust monster episode. i first saw it when i was like 5 and for some reason it really stuck with me. didnt know that it was round the twist till now tho.
im an aussie never seen it tho :/
I recently finished a Round the Twist marathon on Netflix - I hadn't seen any of it in over a decade I'd say. So many memories came flooding back! I remembered I always enjoyed Quivering Heap about the punk ghost stuck haunting a toilet block lol and Whirling Derfish still cracks me up just thinking about it 🤣
But the episodes that had always stuck with me since childhood were Yuckles, The Big Burp, and that Toy Love ep about Linda's creepy old doll. The yuckles & Pete puking up a tree spirit baby didn't scare me or anything, I think they might've just been the episodes the teachers put on most frequently at my primary school for some reason lol.
The friggin doll though! I remember seeing Toy Love for the first (& only) time AT NIGHT when I was about 8... Nightmare fuel 💀 Still hate that doll even now, twenty years later haha. I didn't remember ever seeing the clown scarecrow when I was a kid but that creeped me out too tbh!
The scariest thing is that they ran into the ocean with shoes
i know right. i can buy into all the weirdness because that seems to be what happens there but that’s too much. creepy stuff happening at a lighthouse is one thing but 2 teenagers CHOOSING to run from their home, down a cliff, and into the ocean for something that looked to be washing up on shore makes no sense.
😂💀
Truuuue
It is Australia am I step on something that tries to kill them. Because well it's a Australia where everything wants to kill you.
It's funny how these were considered kid shows back then and are now considered abominations to us.
Yeah

It's season 3 called 'the Big burp'

The big burp it's called
@Razan Al Barwani look. Up round the twist season 3 'the bug burp'

As an Australian I can say yes this was quality kids television in the 90s.
Nothing tops it. Once went for a drive with my friends family and they took me to the lighthouse. I was over the moon.
I’m a Pom, and I concur!
I remember getting up ridiculously early in the morning before school back in the 90’s to watch this gem. I was still in primary school then…awesome times! 👍

Isn’t this the show where one of the sons got pregnant with a tree spirit that was born via burp? Or did I just have a very specific fever dream.

The show is based off books by Paul Jennings. If you look up his other work, this really isn't the weirdest thing out there he's done 😅

Then in the early 00’s, when I stopped play fighting with my much bigger older brother or running about with my mates like some feral kid, I used to also watch The Sleepover Club religiously on Nickelodeon every rainy afternoon during the summer holidays. And I’m not even joking. 😅
It was escapism for me. ❤️
I wouldn’t trade any of it, we were brought up with quality TV, film and literature…☺️
As if the unsupervised internet is any better for kids to grow up in lol
Now they have a 24/7 news cycle on social media for that
and this is when we realized the creators of this "kids show" were high and this was all their dreams
Doesn't any show work like that?
Hi
Bruh
I’m pretty sure the show was based off of some guys book series or something
@@alyssac7494 Paul Jennings.
Don't forget, Round the Twist Season 3 Episode 1 was criticized for "advocating teen pregnancy" when the MALE pees on a TREE and HE is the one who gets pregnant... and gives birth through his MOUTH. How is that ADVOCATING?!
Watching the guy vomit up a leaf baby with that spirit thing looking over did nothing except scar me at 8 years old. Still scarred tbh
Far from promoting teen pregnancy, all that episode did was make me scared to piss on a tree for weeks.
Ok. The hell I just read!!!!!!!!!!!
What did I just read..?
Dude, this show just sounds awesome! hahahahahahaha 🤣 All i had growing up in Turkey were the Jetsons and Flintstones
Correction: When Linda went to tell Tony about the scarecrow, he just said, "I know." Because he was wearing the fortune teller costume, he could see into the future. So Tony knew everything that was about to happen. Which is why he sounded so dismissive. The scarecrow was harmless.
One of the most traumatising memories I have as a kid was an episode with a talking doll, in one scene it’s above the daughters bedroom door with glowing red eyes just saying ‘cuddle me’. Was terrifying and solidified my fear of dolls.
"Round the Twist" was great and shocking and all, but was actually based on short stories written by children's and YA author Paul Jennings, a lot of kids in Australia read his books growing up. They were even more traumatising, they were scarier, sadder, weirder and funnier. These stories made it into a lot of people's childhoods in Australia, and for obvious reasons they're hard to forget...
I used to have a Paul Jennings book signed by him....I have no idea what happened to it which makes me quite sad. I know I drew all over it though because I was like...7 ish ahaha
Oh crap not Paul Jennings
@@uglytelevision Wow. I am a big fan of his books. Undone is still one of my favorite story collections of all time, and I first read it nearly 20 years ago.
sounds like my type of books. I'm going to search him up
Oh yeah Paul Jennings definitely had to be on some kinda drugs when writing those books lol
I live in Adelaide, Australia and sometimes at school if we weren’t learning the teacher would put Round The Twist on...
That was traumatic
I see from your profile pick that you have good taste in tv shows.
Some of my teachers did the same. I remember a teacher putting it on to "learn lessons" from it, it was so boring and annoying watching Round the Twist which to this day is one of my least favourite Australian things.
Yes that and storm boy were about the only options the school had
Hello fellow adelaidian
I just want to know why the living scarecrow from hell also had to be a demonic clown? Like, when Canada accidentally creates a talking pineapple nightmare while trying to make a kids show I get it, pineapples aren't scary (or, at least, weren't until I saw the hell-spawn that is Ananas)...but clowns and scarecrows already scare kids...and Australia was like "lets just morph those together into the holly grail of childhood trauma" anyways
I live in Australia and literally grew up watching this show and I still love revisiting it because it’s my childhood
have you ever, ever felt like this? have strange things happened, are you going round the twist? as an australian, this show is constantly in the back of my mind

I had the same experience, but with a show called 'Fraggle Rock'. No one EVER knew what I was referring to, and so I really believed that I had dreamt up the entire show. Only when I was an adult, did I mention it to a co-worker, and she knew! She told me the name of it, and everything.
We had this show in the UK when I was a kid, it was absolutely one of my favourites. Absolutely iconic.
I LOVED this show. I don’t ever remember being traumatised or scared by it.
I used the watch "Round The Twist" when I was a kid... I remember 3 episodes.... They aired it in the US (may have been on Nick at one point)
1. A lipstick that makes girls automatically make out with you (yes, this is a real episode)
2. A race going up and down the light house or something but she had a clone to help her cheat
3. Some cabbage patch baby episode...
They were all messed up... though... as a kid, I wanted the lipstick so girls would kiss me and other things...
This is not weird at all lol (maybe cause I’m Australian). Play the intro of this show in an Australian mall and you will attract thousands of people
My episode that stuck with me was the taxidermy fox that came back to life
The cabbage patch episode is why I've been terrified of cabbage patch kids toys since I was a baby
HAHA the fuckn' tree spirit episode! I remember that!

I immigrated to Australia when I was young from Canada (with a couple years in NZ in between). I knew about Paul Jennings because in NZ Cheerios did a promotion where boxes of cereal came with Gizmo books. My teachers would read the Singenpoo books as well. In Australia, the class held a vote once to decide what to watch. Everyone voted for Around the Twist 15 YEARS AFTER IT CAME OUT. I was so confused. OMG! Alex you just unlocked a hidden childhood memory. I used to watch this all the time
You could legitimately do one of these for every single episode of Round the Twist and it would never get stale.
Best episode was when the eldest brother got pregnant by a tree
And then he gave birth by throwing the baby up 😂😂
@@breezebradow6137 wait isn’t that how all babies are born 🤨😂
My Definitive Objection Hahaha 😂
How that kind of idea of an episode was allowed in a kid show is beyond me.
Wth HOW AND WHY
We had Round the Twist in the UK too, I really enjoyed it.
There were several really good (in my memory) Aussie kids shows in the UK. Ocean Odyssey, The Girl from Tomorrow, Escape from Jupiter, and loads more.
I loved this as a kid despite it being horrifying. Funnily enough, round the Twist is also critically acclaimed her in Australia 🇦🇺
This was my SHIT!!! Me and my auntie used to watch this because she watched it when she was younger. The ‘without my pants’ episode is an absolute mood... real ones know😂
Yeah this show is like the best thing in the world
YES
round the twist was great. Alex if you want a reallllll fright there is an episode where there is this porcelin doll haunts linda. All the while screaming "cuddle me" that one gave my younger sister nightmares. probably didnt help that us older siblings would say cuddle me! alot xD yes things are different in australia xD
Yes! I was about to comment this. This episode used to scare me but I could watch it as I got older, but the doll episode is the creepiest thing ever!!
Remember the Dust Bunny episode? I feel like that one actually had a warning 😂
Yo I forgot that episode scared me so much
I remember watching this in Germany on saturday mornings on the Käpt’n Blaubär Club.
One of the best things about this show was the intro theme - why would you withhold that??? :D
There were a lot of shows that had an (what I would call) involuntrary low-budget-creepyness to them ...
The scarecrow opening his eyes is most definitely something that would’ve kept me from sleeping as a kid
As a kid the one that hung with me the longest was the old fox skin that would come alive at night to eat lemons from the tree that grew on the spot where it's guts were buried. Gradually the fox became more and more alive until the only thing missing were its eyes. Sadly the lemon tree got cut down before the fox could eat any more lemons so it was stuck blind.
However the daughter (the fox skin was living in her closet) remembered there is also a sickly looking lemon tree that grows on the grave of her grand-dad so she gets lemons from that tree and places them in the closet. Later at the end you see the fox is complete and has eyes, but they're the human eyes of her dead grandfather.
It just raised so many questions in my young brain.
Still not as terrifying as "EC" from "Lift-Off" though.
I'm an adult and this moment has definitely kept me up.
