Because Andrew Lloyd better doesn’t want real cats because the story is about humanity and cats
So we need to see them as humans as well as cats because cats deals with abusive relationships, cults and religion

The reason it flopped is because it didn't look like this. That 4 seconds of animation has more soul than anything Disney had done in the last decade.

@@extrapathos Counterpoint, those four seconds were presumably done entirely by one person, probably in their spare time. Disney has an effectively infinite supply of money and access to any animator(s) in the world that they ask for. I think it's a fair assumption that if they had wanted a feature-length movie that looked like that, it could have been done.

As a avid Cats fan who absolutely despises Cats 2019 this was wonderful, I love the person who drew the lads in the og designs, the gang was back together

I haven't watched the movie but I listened to a review from someone that took theatre and participated in a play back in their school. The idea of cats was just amazing and I don't even wanna watch the movie out of fear that it'll butcher the original concept for me.

Oh, I just realized the brilliance of the gorilla statue at 2:07. Because a lion statue for a cat is like a gorilla statue for a human!

Honestly, a 2D animated or a fully animated 3D version of this would at least make it less painful. It wouldn't save to movie, but it would be way easier to watch.
Spielberg pitched a 2D animated version back in the 90’s that was meant to be set during WW2
Yea, I really don't get why they made a 'live action' movie where they had to CGI 90% of it. At that point, just animate it for fcks sake 🙄

Fun fact: a hand-drawn animated adaptation was originally going to be released in the 1990s under Amblimation. But due to the poor box-office performances of We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story and Balto, the film was scrapped and the studio shut down in 1997, eventually becoming DreamWorks Animation. There's a ton of concept art for this film on Google. Could've been something worthwhile.

Both 0:39 and 1:26 were amazing! I love 0:39 especially since the animator made the characters actual cats instead of making cat/people hybrids.
They are kinda hybrids in the actual musical, you know?
I really think the Warrior Cats fandom could’ve made a map of the entirety of Cats and it would have been better than both the stage show and the movie

I love this.. so much. I love how half of the animators were having fun and making fun of CATS, while the other half was taking this actually pretty seriously and have some really beautiful animation.
I really wish this movie had looked like 1:25 - 1:30, I feel like an animated style like that would’ve fit a lot better than cgi
The mix of the joke animations mocking it and the serious animations is so well done and such a weird juxtaposition that you dont knks what's coming next. My personal favorites were at 0:27 , 1:01 1:22 and 1:26 all of them were well done and some of the mocking ones made me laugh but I like the serious adaptations better:)

The stage play got so terribly ruined
I wish the movie was re-made by the artists at 1:26 amazing emotion and movement there, there were other good ones too and the funny joke ones were entertaining but that bit there is the shining star imo

The original is the theatre production(1981) with a cinematic remake(1998). Both are elegant and beautiful; and are better than this video. But this video is a million times better than the 2019 CGI remake. Nothing will change my mind.

This actually has me excited, too bad the original movie couldn’t live up to this.
What a cry and shame it is to not have an animated Cats musical. I mean take the climax of Memory for example (@ 1:26). This one clip represents everything that could’ve been done for this story. Like my eyes were getting teary from this clip. But of course we had to get the nightmare fuel of a disaster.

Some of the parts where people actually took it seriously to reanimate it with actual cats or properly making cat humanoids that aren't nightmares were actually really good.
