    There is no other way to put it, the Friedman BE-OD is pure rock'n'roll high gain packed into a pedal. It sounds great with "almost" every amp. To test this, I ran it through 12 different ones in this video.
    If you play rock music, you need this pedal.

    Just got mine yesterday, your review was determinant for me. If anyone wants shorter reviews there's plenty, your reviews in general are very good. Thank you and thanks David Friedman for that awesome pedal. Oh by the way the pedal is fantastic !

    I'm confused by why people watch Henning's videos if they hate them or him so much, if you don't want a long, in depth video, then don't click on it, this is a very simple concept. If you do not like Henning's personality, then don't watch his videos, he's not just going to change. That said, great video, I'm VERY interested in this pedal now that I have many other pieces of my gear in order, thanks for the great in depth review.

      He does great videos. It's just that some people don't want to be educated, they just want someone to hurry up and tell them it's good or it's bad. Younger people today do not have a great attention span. Henning, you're stuff is great.

      I fell in love with this pedal after watching the Animals As Leaders rig rundown. Tosin Abasi has one for his distortion tone and it rips.

    Great demo. I was contemplating the MXR EVH 5150, but after watching a lot of videos I’ve decided on this. You play fantastic. Great description of the knobs, especially the tight knob. Great sense of humor!!!

    Great Demo Henning! I purchased one one these ($200 US) the day they were released and your 100% correct, this pedal is amazing sounding! I used it with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe as well as a Friedman Runt 50 on the clean channel with my Les Paul and even on it's lowest gain setting it blew me away! I actually opened up the pedal and turned down the trim pot to give me more range with the gain knob. I think this is one of the best OD pedals I have ever heard and he could of charged $350 for it and it would have been worth every penny if your looking for that Brown Eye sound!

    I completely missed this pedal =) Damn it sounds good. Yes, Henning your vids ARE long but that's really the charm with your channel. Usually when in the market for something I end up browsing YT for demos, Andertons, Chapman, That Pedal Show, Pete Thorn are som of the channels I would go to, to be able to listen to the product from different point of views and different payer styles. But I also go here just for the laughs but also for the in depth demos with all the knob noodeling. Thumbs up as always.

    Geiles Pedal. Mehr muss man nicht sagen aber sehr cool das du es trotzdem gemacht hast Henning xD
    Habe es seit gestern und bin einfach total überzeugt von dem guten Teil.
    Friedman tone in a box.
    Das Geile ist halt das man den Friedman Ton jetzt jetzt ganz einfach mit sich herum tragen kann und so schnell auf der Bühne oder im Studio den Ton bekommt, egal welchen Amp man nutzen kann/muss.

    I have my trim pot turned all the way down and he gain turned all the way down on mine and it's still has a lot of gain. I found it at GC for $150. That's a lot for a used pedal but it's the best overdrive pedal I've ever owned.

      @larrytate1657 8 лет назад +2

      Right now I have a Marshall DSL 40 with a cream back speaker. I love it's cleans and crunch is ok but high gain not so much. So right now I'm playing the BE 100 OD pedal through the clean channel of the DSL and it sounds really good. I am still in the market though for am amp that can get me the modern metal high gain tone down to crystal clean jazzy tones. If one exists lol. For the time being though the BE 100 OD is pretty sweet. I only got it a few days ago and already I'm enjoying it a lot.

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 8 лет назад +1

      Also I've only be able to play the pedal with a single coil start so far as I haven't had a chance to restring my Gibson. Tom that will change though and I'll try with the gibsons humbuckers. Even with the strat though it sounds pretty massive.

    Nice... fur shivering... thrilling rock pedal!!! and nice guitar and video!!!
    Tools for me in this pedal would be: presence and tight pots and the trimpot.
    I would use it as an exciter for a rotary horn. (rock 'n roll keyboards). (some gain coming from previous OD pedals)
    And, of course, I would have fun with it with my guitar also.
    Thinking a little bit more, I could have some nice surprises applying it to synth sounds, adding some sort of old radio resonance to the bass high end of a synth (sort of Eddie Van Halen stuff). Cannot afford it (yet). But it goes to my zoo collection of pedal reviews.

    Thanks for the demo Henning.
    Definitely a smart way to demo by using a looper, as it would be a great tool to perform A/B comparisons between pedals.
    This method would be extremely useful when it comes to making buying decisions in store, to try and find the sound you desire, whilst being able to tweak all the pedal parameters when the loop is playing, much like reamping in a DAW using guitar amp sims and cabinet impulse responses or comparing sounds/instruments in a daw using the same midi patterns.
    I love the tone of the Friedman BE-OD pedal and I do wonder how it would sound plugging direct into the fx loop power amp input stage of amps like the following models:-
    Orange Micro Dark
    DV Mark DV Micro 50 M or DV Mark DV Little 250 M
    Marshall CODE100H Head
    Peavey 6505MH Head
    Boss Katana Head
    Fryette Power Station
    Even the new VOX MV50 models - AC, Clean & Rock
    I don’t know the difference in the power amp stages, especially between the mosfet/solid state models
    I can imagine the tube models reacting much differently, not just from the circuits but the model type and brand of tube too.
    The other pedal I would love to hear in the same setup would be Laney IRT-Pulse.
    Cabinet wise, something affordable in a 1 * 12", maybe a Carvin or Laney

    • @richardwilliams1310
      @richardwilliams1310 7 лет назад

      Alternately those pedals running into Powered Monitors like the following:-
      Laney IRT-X
      Friedman ASM-12
      Used with Speaker cabinet simulators/emulators including the following products:-
      (straight into desk/PA or Audio Interface)
      Note:- I would love to see a cabinet simulators/emulators comparison shootout between these too.
      Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B.
      BluGuitar BluBox
      A/DA GCS-2
      Neunaber Iconoclast
      GFI SYSTEM Cabzeus
      AMT Electronics CN-1 Chameleon Cab
      Hughes & Kettner Red Box 5
      I guess to get a fair line level signal comparison, you would have to maybe use something like the following:-
      Suhr Reactive Load
      Two Notes Torpedo Live

    • @richardwilliams1310
      @richardwilliams1310 7 лет назад

      Lots of gadgets for various setup situations, for recording at home, practice/jamming, sending live signals to front of house/pa mixing desks/FRFR
      Might be cheaper just to buy either of the following:-
      HeadRush Pedalboard
      Atomic Amps Ampli-Firebox/Amplifire/Amplifire 12
      Positive Grid BIAS Head/Rack or BIAS Head/Rack Processor
      Other options, among endless possibilities:-
      Synergy Amps models including the:- SYN-IPA, SYN-001, SYN-002, SYN-5050
      and then buying the preamp modules which include:-
      FRIEDMAN BE
      FRIEDMAN HBE
      FRIEDMAN DS (Dirty Shirley)
      SOLDANO SLO
      DIEZEL VH

    I'm really interested whether this pedal cleans up when you roll down the volume on the guitar. You know, Phil X style. I like the idea of having something like that on all the time with a gradual overdrive setting with the knob. Or the neck pickup rolled off for clean/crunch and bridge for full throttle.

    No, I don't want any Delay! To get an idea on how it sounds, I prefer to hear the product shown without anything added into the signal chain. On the other hand, the Tight potentiometer seems to be very useful and effective to my ears. Maybe, I'd prefer it has a Midrange knob instead of the Presence one? Be careful, there's someone playing your guitar when you're tweaking the pedal knobs!

    For it to turn on does it need to have a wire going in thru the top and not just the sides

    Love your videos but you say all pedals are not flexible. Which distortion preamp pedals are flexible? Or more flexible than this and Vai preamp pedal

    Does anybody prefer this or the deluxe with the mid and presence knob? Dave said on the deluxe, mids rolled all the way to the left is this pedal.

  • @JulesDBN
    @JulesDBN 7 лет назад

    I have one: it's really one trick pony but it's awesome because it really sounds good. In fact I love it. I hope Dave Friedman updates it with a control for mids or I'm going to trade it with a Dirty Shirley to get more versatility... Last but not least: the pedal IS NOISY and i can't seem to get rid of that hiss that comes out when you raise guitar's volume with medium to high distortion settings.

    Henning, like somebody else asked here how is the noise level? I read more and more on the forums it is almost unbearable unless you use a noise gate.

      highmax2002 I have one use it with humbuckers its not noisy. I've split my hbs and it's like any other pedal. With that amount of gain it was no noisier than any other pedal.

    KRIKEY!! now you have thinking, what distortion pedals out there are NOT one trick pony's? The throttle box? the 5150 EVH? the fulltone OCD? From what I have learned so far, you have some companies here that have put their distortion from their amps into a pedal, for example, Wampler's Plexi drive plus, is a Marshall distortion sound in a box, the Throttle box is the Rectifier/Boogie sound, the fulltone OCD the same as the Marshall, this one, the Friedman amp head etc. So, all have their variences of tweakness, are you saying that this one can't do what exactly? Very curious to hear your take???? I will take your response off the air:) thanks:)

      ok, had to rewatch this, and at 13:12 I hear what you are talking about, but I can't put down the vocal noises you made for the heavenly sounds it doesn't make lol, but I get it...

    Do i have to use a tube amp with one of these? I read it does sound best through a naturally clean tube amp like a buxom betty or a fender?
    Was considering gettin one of those new Marshall CODE amps to use with it so i would have even more OD options?

    • @shckltnebay
      @shckltnebay 8 лет назад

      Why get that amp if you going to use pedals, I played one Horrid. Imo a peavey classic 30 would be a better pedal platform

      If you dial down the internal gain you can get a great OD out of this pedal, its the best of both worlds honestly
