Thank you so much for this instructional video..I went to Home Depot and purchased these supplies for like 14 bucks and botta boom botta bing out came the bushing.
Thanks for taking the time to share this Ben. I know you’ve been fixing an overwhelming number of outboards here in the TC at least these past few years, but you are still so generous with sharing a knowledge and time. I’ve learned a ton from you. Many thanks!
If someone is wondering the EU spec tools for this, I managed to do this with M7 tap and M7 threaded rod. I bought a 15hp Evinrude 1980 couple months ago, and really like the engine. Had to do some cleaning and tuning, but it runs great now. After the season, found out that there was some water mixed with lower unit gear oil, so decided to replace all the seals and this o-ring was the last to be replaced. Thank you very much for instructions, cant wait next summer 👍🏻 Greetings from Finland! 🇫🇮
Great video.. Please change Title name of video to include the words Evinrude and Johnson to see if we can help more people find it...You just made this so quick and easy. Thanks !!!
Awesome video!!!. I just made the tool and pulled my bushing on my 9.9. It would have cost 130.00 for slide hammer and special tool, not wanting to spend that on one time job. Only cost 20 bucks and it came out with ease, thank you for your time.
they don't make that bushing tool anymore unless you have someone make it for you BUT Boats.net finally has some in stock!! search part # 0304514 !! I get mine tomorrow!

Awesome hack! I've had a stubborn foot in the shop for 2 years and this worked perfectly. Thanks.
Glad it helped!
any chance you have the part number to buy those shift rod o rings in bulk?
What is your socket setup on your extension that fits the square end of the tap?
Question what socket did you use to hold the top. And this was done without tearing down lower end.what about shaving going into the lower end. Thanks
Tap
He puts little grease on the tap to collect shavings
GREAT VIDEO! THANKS
how to you put the new busing in without the O ring falling out?
You have a plastic washer in before the o-ring then the bushing. Some evinrude has another O-Ring inside the bushing itselfs.
Isn't there a washer down in the housing? .. are you using bushing sealer or triple guard?
Yes there is a washer. And no I don’t use sealer
Can you reuse the bushing after it has been tapped
Yes you can
What size and thread count is the shifter rod?
Do you know the appropriate shift rod height for these engines? Thanks
It pops into place abd u Just tighten it then it should be good, cant adjust Mine in any way i think
